Summary: Really Enjoyable, Loved the use of Magick, Great CATS!
Review: I am so tired of traditional "romance" novels so I really enjoyed this book.

The world Robin D.Owens created impressed me; the combination of psychic abilities and magical power in the people of Celta. I didn't feel comfortable with the "Royal ruling class" society structure though. It seemed a little extreme to me; which was touched on by the character T'Ash, since he grew up in the streets. So the auther may address this in future books I hope.

Some other reviewers didn't like the character of T'Ash much, found him too macho or whatever. I can see how he would come accross like this, however, having grown up without any guidence since he was six years old, I think it's understandable that he didn't have much finesse when courting his Heart Mate. At least he believed in Heart Mates, unlike Danith, our female lead character. She was soooooo annoying after awhile. I had to remind myself that the author was just trying to say she had issues from being an orphan, wanting to be in control of her own life etc. BUT, she was at times just sort of nasty and judgemental, it just took her too long to realize her feelings, it would have been just as good a book if they had gotten together a little sooner, and if she thawed a little sooner; the conflict could have still been within her, the fear of change, but without the coldness toward the hero. Regardless of what I consider character flaws(which may be just my subjective opinion), I loved the fact that they lived in a magical world, and could communicate with their cats telepathically, and I'll definitely buy her other books.

Summary: a very pleasant surprise
Review: I bought this book after reading others' reviews (but was somewhat skeptical) and once I received it I could hardly put it down. It is an excellent storyline, and although it is a little "rough around the edges" I truly believe that the author, if they were to collaborate with, say, Harry Turtledove, could potentially produce a story that would rock the genre and win many notable awards. All in all this was a very enjoyable book and one that I have written my name inside the cover of, as I need to be sure to get it back from the people I loan it to. For those of you who may not be attracted to this "Magical Love" business, as was true for me, be assured that this is really an excellent story and is nowhere near as mushy as it is made out to be on the cover.

Summary: Potential, But No Spark
Review: I enjoyed this book; I found it a pleasant way to while away a few hours. I liked it -- but I didn't love it, and I'm not entirely certain why. It has all the elements I look for in a paranormal romance: magic, strong characters, a good combination of drama and humor, and so on. But, after I finished it, I just shrugged and moved on. It didn't move me or enthrall me. It just lacked that certain something, the spark of interest, that makes the difference between good and great. As far as I'm concerned, "Heartmate" was fairly middle-of-the-road. It just didn't click with me.

However, that's an entirely subjective opinion, and I know there are bound to be many people who disagree. So if you are at all interested in paranormal romance novels, you should definately give this book a try. For what it's worth, I thought the universe the author created in this novel had the potential to provide really outstanding stories -- so I'm going to be on the lookout for her next book, whenever it comes out. "Heartmate" wasn't bad by any means; it just didn't thrill me.

Summary: not very many likeable characters
Review: I got the impression that the author was trying to make her two main characters likeable, people you could feel sympathy for, but mostly they were just annoying. Rand T'Ash was the worst, and I really wonder why Danith ever fell for him. I've read several romance novels with arrogant male characters (for example, every Dara Joy book), and I liked a lot of those, but Rand didn't have any likeable characteristics that I could see, other than the fact that he was gorgeous. That's not enough. The only reason I don't give the book a one is because of Zanth, T'Ash's feline Familiar. Owens does a brilliant job with him. The best dialouges were the ones where someone was talking with Zanth. This author should really stick to writing cats.

Summary: Kind of hard to follow
Review: I love books that are written about otherworldly romances or futuristic romances. This is one such book. It was well written but reads like a second or third book in a series. It took me a while to orient myself to the characters, their abilities and the setting. There was no historical build up. The other problem, in my opinion, is the relationship between the two main characters. It seemed stilted. At the end of the book it felt like the female character just gave into the pressures of the male character.

Dispite these problems I did enjoy the book and look foward to reading others by this auther. There are several subcharacters that lead into having their own story told.

Summary: Interesting depiction of a new world
Review: I loved the way she set up a new world. The story kind of meandered though, it began to become tedious.

It was amusing reading about Rand T'Ash's fumbling courtship. The heroine was a so-so character. Her constant rejections of Rand and her biting words to him didn't endear me to her all that much.
I didn't like reading all of sudden at the end that she had had already given up her virginity to someone else previously. That was unnecessary to the plot.

I would have liked to read more about Rand's action in vengence in the present intead of in the past. He was a great character. His emotional pain and his strength and determination were so evident.

The story didn't seem to have one overall plot. Of course Rand wants to bond Danith, but there are so many frivolous side stories to keep them apart, it becomes distracting.

An interesting read, but not one I will re-read. But I am still interested in reading about the world she created in future books. Hopefully the plot will be a little cleaner.

Summary: Can't Wait for the Next Book
Review: I loved this "Heartmate" by Robin D. Owens!

While the series was slightly reminescent of the Jayne Castle series which I believe started with Amaryllis it was still great. There just are not enough good romantic fantasies to choose from in the marketplace and I think that Owens should be able to grab herself a great place in this open sub-genre of romance. I love the alternate world that Robin D. Owens has created and the charecters are likable and intersting.

Summary: Best Book In A Long Time!!!
Review: I loveed this book and couldn't put it down. The characters were well developed and the cat was extremely funny. I am a fan of Dara Joy and now Ms. Ownes. Can't wait for her next book.

Summary: Great Romantic - Sci-Fi
Review: I ordered this book because of ... recomendation. I didn't expect much. WOW! A wonderful surprise. Great characters, exciting storyline. This is what I look for in romantic Sci-Fi and so seldom find. I would very much like to find more books in this genre of this excellence.

Summary: Something similar about this story..
Review: I picked up this book expecting a new original work. But instead I found a work which is reminiscent of several other authors. This work incorporates elements from Dara Joy's Matrix of Destiny series and Jayne Castle's Flower series mixed with a touch of wiccan practices.
If you are looking for good futuristic paranormal I would recommend that you go for the original....Dara or Jayne.
They have done this story first and better.
