Rating: Summary: Stephen is the best! Review: I've read 3 of the 4 "velvet" books now (I'm into the last one now, and it looks to be good too). This one is wonderful - especially if you're interested in Scottish history from this time. Bronwyn is fabulous - yeah, she's stubborn (that's the idea, all of these women are strong-willed and intelligent - and can be quite bone headed at times!)and gives Stephen more grief than he desearves, but she redeems herself. But I just love him - he's funny and sexy and smart and, well, like some hero out of a book! I've read a few family sagas, this one (and the Bar Cynster series by Stephanie Laurens) are the best ones I've read.

Rating: Summary: Excellent continuation of the Montgomery' s and their loves Review: If you like historical romances, this is the one for you. If you like storylines that can continue from book to book, this is the one for you. This is the second story in the saga of the Montgomery brothers and their search for love everlasting (whether they realize it or not). If you have'nt read the first book THE VELVET PROMISE, don't worry after this one you will. The characters of Bronwyn and Stephen are wonderful. It is nice to read a historical romance where the women are so strong and the men come to rely on them heavily for their wit and knowledge. A must read for any fan of historical romances set in the time of the Scottish Clans.
Rating: Summary: GRRRRRRRRRRRRRREAT Review: Just wonderful! i recommend it to all romance novels lover's :
Rating: Summary: Eh... Review: Not the best I've read. I tend to avoid romances unless I just really need to get lost quickly in historical fiction. It was entertaining and there were beaucoups of love scenes, but I couldn't get absorbed in it like I like to.
I couldn't stand Bronwyn. Is it just me or does the sassy, spirited, untamed heroine seem cliche? I'm so tired of that kind of character. Just not very realistic. Especially in 16th Century Scotland. I was hoping for a more relatable character like Dougless from Knight in Shining Armor (Fabulous book, by the way).
A lot of the problem for me was that I just couldn't believe the way the characters related to eachother. Way too contemporary. All of the dialogue seemed more like banter you'd hear on a sitcom, with a tiny pinch of Scottish brogue.
And there was hardly any action at all! I kept waiting for all these enemies the characters had in the beginning to reveal some climactic scheme. But nothing. It was just Stephen and the girl's ridiculously trained dog showing up at one perfect time after another, but no great climactic showdown with the villains. Pretty disappointing.
I didn't know this book was part of a series when I picked it up. Maybe the rest are better, or maybe I would have appreciated it more having the read the rest. All in all, not really worth the time with all the other fluffy historical romances out there. :)
Rating: Summary: My absolute Favorite!! Review: NOW THIS....Is what Historical Romance used to be. Read "Velvet Promise" first so that you know what is going on. I actually read this one first and then found "Velvet Promise" and I read the series when it first came out in the 80's. I miss the old days of romance where it sweeps you into another world and you get lost in the time I remember visualizing Bronwyn's hair and eyes the first time Stephan saw her, I remember feeling a ache in my stomache when Stephan says the words "You will be the Death of Me, Bronwyn" (sigh) I can see how some readers of today would not like this sort of writing style but for me who discovered Historical romances through Jude Deveraux and Johanna Lindsay I applaud them still. This one will always remain in my "keeper" pile no matter how old I get. Happy Reading
Rating: Summary: ORDER of the books in the Velvet Series Review: Since there seems to be a lot of confusion as to the order of this series, I will try ot be helpful. The series is ordered in terms of the 4 Montgomery brothers' birth order: #1 Velvet Promise - Eldest Gavin Montgomery marries Judith but his ex-lover tries to steal him back. A bit grim for my taste. #2 Highland Velvet - Stephan Montgomery is given Scottish Bronwyn McArran for a wife. She hates him cos he's English ... but not for long! A couple of rolls int he heather - lots of fun. #3 Velvet Song - Raine Montgomery the gentlest of the brothers gets a new squire, a young lad whom Raine, to his horror, finds himself wanting to kiss. Its Alyx and they make beautiful music together. #4 Velvet Angel - Miles Montgomery is the dark brooding playboy of the lot, irrisitable to all women except Elizabeth Chatworth, whose family has a feud with the Montgomeries (this happens throughout the series). She looks like an angel but behave like a hell cat. Hope this is helpful. Its a great series.
Rating: Summary: One of the best books I have ever read Review: Stephen and Bronwyn were great, the author really lets you get to know the Montgomery family on a personal level. I have read all of the Velvet sereis and have just discovered more on the Montgomery family. If someone could email me with the correct order i intend on reading the entire saga.
Rating: Summary: Another great read from Jude Deveraux Review: Steven went to Scotland to conquer the people he married into , but found homself conquered bt Bronwyn. Jude brings everything to life. The secondary chachters are wonderful. I like the way she brings members of his family into the plot without giving to much away about them. When you read their stories you find that the information she gives you about them whets your appetite for them. Jude is a magnificent writer and I am always on the lookout for any new books she writes. Keep up the good work Jude.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful and Real Review: The reason i adore this book is that the characters are so real. It begins when a captured Bronwyn MacArran, laird of her clan, is awaiting Stephen Montgomery, the man who she is supposed to marry. Unfortunetely, Stephen is late because of a family problem, and he also expected that the woman awaiting him would be an ugly, beefy, horrible woman. However, when he sees the beautiful Bronwyn, he decides to forever make her his. However, he has to take into consideration that he is marrying the laird of a clan, and the Mac Arran's are not going to easily trust an Englishman, so Stephen begins the process of becomming a Scot, while Bronwyn is scheming against a rival clan. With all their differences, will these two people be able to find love in their marriage? This book demonstrates how things really are in life. Each married couple has to make certain adjustments in order to live peaceably with their spouse, whether it is squeezing the toothpaste from the end instead of the center, or hanging up the towls instead of dumping them on the floor. Stephen had to learn to fit into Bronwyn's clan and to master his jealosy. Bronwyn had to learn to respect Stephen's opinion and to think before she acted. These two characters wound around an intriguing plot of revenge, rivalry, and murder makes Highland Velvet a classic book, meant for all people who enjoy a good romance with a happy ending.
