Summary: One of my favorite!
Review: This book was excellent! It kept me on my toes the whole time! With tons of unexpected things happening all the time, I just couldn't put it down!!! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone!

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Unlike the rest of you....I DON'T!
Review: This book was just flat-out boring! It's too much like "The Wedding Planner". The whole thing was so predictable, I found myself knowing what the author would say next -- the exact words!!!! The book just drags on this way. I don't recommend it at all. Sorry!

Summary: I love this book
Review: This is a wonderful, light hearted read. A must read for "Bride's To Be."

Summary: Like it? I Did (and I Didn't)
Review: This was another entry into the "oh my God I'm 20/30something and not married yet" genre that seems to be everywhere these days. The reason I went with 4 stars instead of 5 was because of the writing; it was quite disturbing to me that the author used parentheses in such abundance. Every single page, every single line has (words inserted like this), and it really detracted from the flow of the words. I wish I was joking, but the parenthesis are everywhere!!! The other drawback -- the writing was very choppy. The. Author. Wrote. Like. This., and all it really evidenced was that this was a young author who isn't striving for great literature. I've read a lot of the British authors and the Bridget Jones types stories, so it was refreshing to read this humorous look at marriage and dating by an American writer. The book is light, funny, and easy to read through in a few days. It was generally interesting, had some cutesy twists in the plot, provided a lot of interesting background about wedding planning, and there was enough chemistry between the characters to make it romantic.

Summary: A love story (about parentheses)
Review: When one writes a book, one fills the blank pages with as much writing - back story, descriptions, plot, etc. - as possible. Then the writer goes back and revises, removing extraneous writing - superfluous descriptions, pointless dialogue, awkward phrasing, unrelated tangents, etc. I get the distinct and uncomfortable feeling the author submitted her first draft totally unrevised to her editor. And then the editor didn't bother to do his/her job to edit and fine-tune the manuscript.

For instance, if the editor had eliminated anything in parentheses, the book would probably be about 50+ pages shorter and a teeny bit more concise. The author LOVES PARENTHESES.

A typical paragraph looked like this: Sentence. Sentence. (Blathering in parentheses.) Sentence. (Blathering in parentheses.) Sentence. Sentence. (Blathering in parentheses.)

At one point, since she used BRACKETS within parentheses! And, I even found a stray left parenthesis - one missing it's completing right partner, on Pg. 246.

Somehow, despite the plethora of parentheses, I read the book from cover to cover. This doesn't mean I enjoyed it.

The characterizations were incomplete, with the exception of the heroine, Lauren. Lauren's friends were bland, plastic backdrops and certainly not beneficial to the plot or helpful confidantes to the heroine. One friend is dropped into the book suddenly at the halfway point when the author must have decided she needed a promiscuous friend for the heroine. In fact, many characters were dropped in suddenly. That's why I feel the book is still in rough draft format. Characters aren't developed, some are dropped in whenever the author decided to add something new.

It's amusing how many readers found this to be a good read. It is poorly executed, too long and poorly developed.

Summary: A fun book...
Review: While this wasn't the best book in the world, it was certainly entertaining and lots of fun to read! I'm not sure why there are so many bad reviews. Once I got into the book, I really enjoyed it, although it was - of course - rather predictable (almost too predictable, which is why I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars). Overall, though, this was a nice book to breeze through if you're looking for a lighthearted book on relationships and so forth. I liked it enough to pick up Ms. Lockwood's second book, "Pink Slip Party," and enjoyed that one even more. Her writing style is fluid (although you can tell it's sharper in the other book) and nice and quick witted so you'll find yourself laughing out loud at parts. Definitely recommended chick lit!

Summary: ultra breezy contemporary chic lit
Review: Working as a wedding planner at Forever Wedding in Austin, Lauren Crandell reflects on her life. Under thirty and divorced already seems like a bad role model for her work, but Lauren feels relief that Brad, a classic consumer user (spend but not earn), left her though she still struggles to move past that failure. Lauren spends most of her life on the job insuring ceremonies go off without a hitch in spite of her doubting boss Gennifer Douglas who believes that anyone under forty cannot breath and chew gum at the same time. Being an organizational fanatic, Lauren knows she is good at the job.

Lauren oversees two weddings that somewhat fall apart and require rescuing from fire fighter Nick Corona. To her shock, as she does not want a relationship now though her sex life is nonexistent, Lauren finds herself in flames thinking of Nick. He reciprocates her feelings, but neither feels the confidence to develop something permanent especially with family and friends constructing roadblocks on the primrose path.

Fans of ultra breezy contemporary chic lit tales will say I do to Cara Lockwood's warm amusing lighthearted romp. Told in the first person, readers see deep inside the heroine, but will still wonder why she allows herself to be such a victim of loved ones. The rest of the cast is predominantly observed through a Lauren slightly cynical filter. Readers who need a few hours of humorous romantic escapism will appreciate I DO (BUT I DON'T) as Cara Lockwood displays strong talent, but those desiring a bit more of the cerebral will say I don't.
