Rating: Summary: A very fast reading contemporary romance Review: I liked this extremely fast paced offering from Katie MacAlister. This is her second book, with the first being a historical romance published last year.In this story Alix has moved to England to write a romance story. She has decided that this is what she wants to do with her life and this is how she will turn all her bad luck around. First off I hope that the author had a hard time writing the starts to the chapters (yikes what horrid writing). As she finishes a chapter she will read it to anyone that will listen which leads to about a dozen different styles of writing. Along the way she meets Alex the stuffy Scotland Yard detective that almost arrests her on their first meeting. I found this to be a fun and light hearted romance story. (Though I do think that Alix was not that selfish...)
Rating: Summary: amazing book! Review: I really loved this book. Not only are the characters so vital and so funny, but the supporting characters are so well done. It made me ache for this klutz of a heroine, and yet caused me laugh so hard it hurt. The character's attempts at writing a romance is so hilarous.

Rating: Summary: Below Average Review: I really wanted to like this book - the title is fun, the cover is fun, the premise is fun, and Macalister's most recent book, Men in Kilts, was awesome. But.. this was not a quality book. The main character (Alix) is an annoying female that is just as self-centered and obnoxious as her friends say she is. The lead male (Alex) is just not believable. In fact, the entire romance lacks realism and is hardly more than teen fluff. I felt like this book was very immature and seemed geared to a very low age group - like teens. It just wasn't well written and I wouldn't recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Laugh Out Loud Funny Review: I really, really enjoyed this book. The first dinner scene had me laughing out loud on the train ride home. What an absolute, but completely welcome surprise. I didn't quite enjoy the conflict between Alix and Alex; it was a bit too contrived for my taste, but overall, this is a thoroughly enjoyable novel.
Rating: Summary: Whatta treasure! Review: I recommend this book to anyone who loves fresh,new,laugh-out-loud, hysterically funny, romance. Alix, the budding Romance Novel Writer, meets Alex, the Scotland Yard Detective Inspector and it's "Katie, bar-the-door!" I laughed till I cried! Don't miss this book!
Rating: Summary: Improper English Review: I would have given this book 5 stars based on Alex's character alone. I thought he was wonderful. So wonderful in fact that he put up with the heroine Alix throughout. Can't say I would have done the same. Alix was a little too self-centered for my tastes and I thought she didn't deserve Alex, but all in all, it was a very enjoyable read. Definitely worth picking up and checking out. If you haven't read Noble Intentions, you should read that as well.
Rating: Summary: Not Katie's best Review: I'v eread several other Katie MacAlister novels and had high expectations. I was, however, quite disappointed in this book. Where to begin? Perhaps the heroine: annoying, unfocused, frenzied without being funny. The hero: Well, gee, I never really understood him. What motivated him? What possible interest could he have in Alex, as annoying as she was? How in the world did they fall in love? Too fast, too frenzied, not enough of the basics. This book bugged me so much, in fact, that I almost dropped the author from my list of must-buys. I can heartily recommend several other of Katie's books, though: Sex and the Single Vampire, Hard Day's Knight, Noble Intentions.
Rating: Summary: Noble Effort !!! Review: If you read the reviews of Katie Macalister's Noble Intentions, you will see it said time and again that everyone adored her very tall, klutzy, redheaded heroine, that was not at all like all the typical historical heroine. She could not waltz, set the Duchess' curtains on fire and drove her husband to distraction with her unpredictability and slightly self-centred determination to make the world bend to her. Well, Katie Macalister has done it again. If you can read the dinner scene and not laugh, then you likely need a sense of humour tune-up. I loved the dancing on the landing. And her Book!! Oh, that hurts it's so hilarious! Alix is a pill at times, but she is a very down to earth, neurotic, klutz that I am certain is patterned on at least one of my sisters!! I feared they would call for the men in white jackets for me, because I could not shut up making snorting noises or laughing so hard my sides hurt. Gee, you get a tummy workout while you read!! Hum...neat trick!! I cannot wait for Noble Destiny! Keep 'em coming, Ms. M!!
Rating: Summary: Uneven but funny Review: Katie MacAlister's contemporary debut started as a hysterical hoot which lampoons the romance genre's excessive use of purple prose. The beginning of each chapter is an excerpt of the horrid manuscript heroine Yank novice romance author Alix Freemar who moves to England in search of greener pastures. She meets neighbor sexy Scotland Yard detective Alexander Black who on first sight confiscates her spiky plant that he suspected was a marijuana plant. Tension heats up and the cnemistry flames with the banters and love. All would have been better if Alix wasn't sculpted by MacAlister as a simpering self-centered waterpot who becomes gratingly irritating. There are occasional funny moments with her quirky characters including leasbian couple Bert and Ray as well as the astute Isabella who was once Alex's lover. Alix's insecurity is an excuse for her to accuse Alex of rejection when she doesn't show much consideration for his work and self-wallows in pity. It is fortunate though she straightens herself towards the end with a redeeming clause. It is uneven at times but Ms. MacAlister manages to steer through with wits, slapsticks and lots of heart for her improper, eccentric bunch of kooks.
