Summary: Historical Romance Perfection
Review: Kat Martin has managed to capture exactly what I was looking for in a historical romance. It carries the heady details of the age while developing a wonderful story to engross modern readers. The writing was intelligent. The heroine was a real piece of work..instead of the stereotypical ranting and raving "How Dare You!" strength of most heroines, Velvet backs it up. When put in a corner she was more than able to handle herself--oftentimes that meant using weapons and force. Hurrah! The hero is terribly likable, and the supporting cast members were all colorful, detailed, and powerful. I couldn't ask for anything better! Richly written history, a compelling plotline, and poetically written romance.

Review: My friend gave me this book and said I'd like it. I'd like to say "Thank you" because it has given me many, many hours of wonderful reading. Not only did I read through Nothing but Velvet at record speed, but I went out and bought almost allof her other books I could get my hands on!

Summary: An Awesome Story, But....
Review: Nothing But Velvet is the awesome love story of Jason Sinclair and Velvet Moran. Jason was wrongly accused of murdering his father the Duke of Carlyle, and, now eight years later, has come back to prove his innocence. He plots to kidnap his brother's betrothed "wealthy" heiress, Velvet. Jason soons discovers that even the best laid plans have a way of going awry when Velvet is nearby.Velvet, the heroine, is forced to wed because her father wasted the family fortune. She poses as a wealthy heiress and captures the notice of Avery Sinclair. Velvet is set to marry him, when she is kidnapped by One-Eyed Jack Kincaid, the notorious highwayman. And even as she is afraid of him, she finds herself attracted to him in a way she never could imagine. Overall, this story is awesome. There is adventure, romance, subplots, and all kinds of twists and turns. However, the book lagged in some places, and it took over 200 pages before we found out why Jason is the tortured hero and what happened to him during his eight-year imprisonment. I just started reading Ms. Martin's books. My favorite so far has been Innocence Undone. I tend to measure the rest of her books by that one. On a scale of 1 to 5, I give this one a 4 or 4 1/2. It's not as good as Innocence, but it is still a great story.

Summary: Kat Martin's Best
Review: NOTHING BUT VELVET it Kat Martin's best historical romance yet. Having read all of her books save for MIDNIGHT RIDER, I can accurately judge that NOTHING BUT VELVET was absolutely marvelous. The romance between the spirited Velvet Moran and handsome rogue Jason Sinclair is so vivid and powerful that I could actually feel it seep through the pages. Both Velvet and Jason are very intelligent and strong-willed people. I enjoyed their dialogue and actions because they fit in perfectly with the storyline. In other words, all the exciting events that take place are brilliantly thought-out. Kat Martin has a wonderful way of bringing these characters to vibrant life. If you're looking for a book filled with breathtaking romance, suspenseful adventure, and undying love, this is the one for you. It is not one of those slow paced, dull, or sad romance novels. Every page holds something exciting and new and definitely will have you hooked. I guarantee you that the ending of the story is worth every single penny and more.

Review: Some romance novels are keepers because they can be read again and still enjoyed. This is one of them. I have read several Kat Martin books and perfer her historicals, though I was vastly disappointed in "Nothing but Velvet's sequel, "Silk and Steel", which is the story of Lucien, Jason's friend and helper in clearing his name. I am not one who gives 5 stars often; to me, a 5 star rating is perfection, and this story did have a flaw or two, but still, I feel, a much better read then tons of romance books in stores today. Jason and Velvet make a great couple. In so many romances, the heroine is always fighting or tries to deny her sexual needs. That, thankfully, is not the case here. Velvet finds Jason as sexually appealing as he does her. I liked Lucien and he is a noble friend to Jason. At times, however, he is much smarter than Jason and so sometimes Jason appears to be like the classic gorgeous but dumb guy! Of course, to survive what he had to takes brains as well as brawn. My main issue with this story is the ending. Jason ends up with a noose around his neck and is saved. Well, that is okay but it is so rushed. It is like, hah? What is happening? Why is Lucien rushing to save him; what happend to bring the law down to save him when he was just convicted? It was too rushed and unclear. I hated when Velvet gave money to the poor semi-blind man and he tells her that her husband was innocent, yada, yada, yada. That was stupid. So the end was not great. I liked the epilogue, though. Nice way to end, knowing they had children, etc.

He's been through 8 years of darkness. 8 years of harboring betrayal & bitter contempt. 8 years of pure survival. Now that is sad! Kat Martin truly have a way with her words. She makes me ache for Jason. Her words will involved you thoroughly. You will feel with Jason & would want to fight for justice, for Jason's sake. I like the way Kat Martin portrayed Velvet Moran. She was beautiful, intelligent & hearty just like every heroine in most historical romance novel. What I specially like about her is her honesty and determination. She doesn't toy with words. She speaks her mind and the hell with the consequences. She spreads her wings without hesistations. I agree with one of the Amazon reviewer below that this books is fast pacing and full of surprises. Like I said, I did have high expectations of this book, I was thoroughly content and amazed at the same time. I love Jason and Velvet's stivy love story. They will make your heart quench. Their character development was impressive. The suspense twist was one a kind. The more you read, the more you'll get hooked. You wouldn't want to put this book down until the last page... then it'll still keep u thinking about it the rest of the day. If this kind of story can affect me like that then the book is most definitely worth my time. Pure entertaintment, i say... from front to end. Can't wait to read Lucien's story, Jason's best friend, in SILK & STEEL.

Summary: Really Good Romance
Review: This was the first Kat Martin book I read and will make sure I read many more. I loved the story of Jason and Velvet. And trust me, I am not a huge romance novel fan. Too many romances have all these contrived reasons and misunderstandings that keep the couple from actually having a relationship. Velvet is not only Jason lover, but a friend, just like Lucien. I also liked the trust factor of Velvet for Jason. Yes, Jason was perhaps not as trusting of Velvet (I think...) but he certainly had reasons to be a bit unsure of the trust factor considering his past history. I loved Lucien and did read the follow-up book with his story (disappointing...because Lucien was such a great friend and deserved better). But read this one - it is a keeper.
