Rating: Summary: Wonderful Scottish Romance Review: When I first began reading Kilgannon I thought it was going to be a straight ripoff of Dianan Gabaldon (also my favorite series) but this book goes into its own story lines and set in a different time period. While Alex is a lot like Jamie, MANY historical romance heroes are alike - especially if you narrow down the topics to roughly the same time period and the same country. Bottom line - if you like the Outlander series you will like Kilgannon (I read it in one sitting!). I really loved the historical research that went into this book. I never knew before where the term Jacobite came from! I finished Kilgannon yesterday and will begin The Wild Rose of Kilgannon today and will probably not put it down until I'm finished. WONDERFUL STORIES !
Rating: Summary: Similar to Gabaldon? Review: While patiently waiting for the next installment of the Outlander series I decided to give this book a try since the reviews seemed to be favorable. After reading this book I cannot understand how anyone who has read the novels of Diana Gabaldon could ever compare the story of Alex and Mary to that of Claire and Jamie. Disappointment is an understatement. There is no substance, the plot lines are weak, and the chemistry between the main characters is questionable. Not at all like Galbaldon. I gave the book 2 stars because it is readable even if it is complete fluff, and to also give credit to Kathleen Givens for having the talent to just write the book. If you are looking for a very easy read and a simple story this will do the job. I really don't like to have to write a negative review, however, I wanted to warn fans that if you are looking to fill the gap while waiting for the release of the next Gabaldon novel it does not do its job. It will leave you highly unsatisfied. I would recommend the Into the Wilderness series by Sara Donati. The books are well written and absorbing.
Rating: Summary: Actually, 4 and 1/2 stars...... Review: Wow!!! First of all....let me just say...Alex could not have been a more romantic character....I adored him from the beginning..infact, I found him to be so charming, that I didnt trust him at first...but believe me..he proves himself to be VERY honorable indeed. This book started out in such a way that I was floored to discover that it was not at all what I expected...it was much more intense...I thought it was brilliant how well developed the characters were ...and I loved watching them get to know one another. The first person POV was refreshing as well, and at several points I found myself being reminded of the beloved book "Outlander"....not so much because of the story itself, but the overall tone....I cant explain it really....I would have given "Kilgannon" 5 stars in a heartbeat, however, I felt that lovescenes could have been better....I cannot stand a summarized lovescene, but this book was so excellent it didnt bother me overmuch...all in all a wonderful read.....A WARNING: buy "The Wild Rose of Kilgannon" immediately upon purchasing this book...if you dont, the ending to "Kilgannon" will leave you furious....
