Rating: Summary: Correct me if I'm wrong!!! Review: Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the summaries failed to mention this book is about the rape of a 16 year old girl by a 30+ year old man. Girl is raped by pirate, within a couple of hours girl has sex with pirate, eventually girl falls in love with pirate. If you enjoy reading books along this theme, then Island Flame is for you.
Rating: Summary: Daring Adventure Review: Realy enjoyed this one. It's the first of Ms. Robards' books I've read. I was surprised to see such a low rating from her readers. Yes there was rape and violence, but this was 1842. Women didn't have rights and life was violent. Who can say what a woman of that time would do after being raped by their husband.(the first sex act was a seduction not exactly a rape) I enjoyed the book and plan to read more of Ms. Robards's writings.
Rating: Summary: Meant to give this book five stars but.... Review: There are probably alot of feminist women who would like to thrash me for calling this a great book, but it is so out of the norm of other historical romances today. The hero, Jon, (yes ladies, i said hero) is a rather brutish male. However, this is the most historically accurate book i have ever read about the differences between men and women in that time period. He is an arrogant selfish man even up to the last two pages in the novel. Throughout the whole book, he insults and forces himself on her, but she gives him just as much as he dishes out. This book will always be one of my favorites, just because of the way that Karen Robards details the way a REAL relationship usually works.
Rating: Summary: Island Flame Review: This book is so bad I want to throw it away so no other person gets stuck reading it. As many other reviews said, the male main character is awful and abusive. The book is not romantic. It's sick. I have enjoyed many of this author's books, because they were exciting and romantic and the characters seemed realistic. This book, however, was bad. I happened to get another Karen Robards book at the same time that seems almost equally bad--- "Wild Orchids". Maybe this was a stage the author was going through in the early 80s.
Rating: Summary: I enjoyed this book, but with some reservations Review: This book plot was very good. My enjoyment of this book was lessen by the violence. I think the story would have been more romantic if the male character had seduced the lady instead of using force. I couldn't really like this man and he wasn't my idea of a man that would want to sweep me off my feet.
Rating: Summary: FIRST ROMANCE I EVER READ Review: THIS IS THE FIRST HISTORICAL ROMANCE I EVER READ. IT HOLDS A SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART BECAUSE OF THIS. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ANYBODY.
Rating: Summary: Me too... Review: This is the first time I've ever given a bad review for a book - this deserves it. I read some of Karen Robards other books and LOVED them, but was absolutely horrified by this book. Not only does the hero rape the girl early in the book as described by other reviews, he rapes her much later in the book when they have been married for some time, and she doesn't even have any desire to leave him! Hardly even cares, though the author CERTAINLY wrote the scene so there was no doubt it was out-and-out rape. Oh well, Karen Robards other books are good romances, but stay far from this one, it is a traumatic read!
Rating: Summary: I give it 1 star because Zero isn't Available...... Review: This is the worst book I have read in a very long time. I was really looking forward to reading this because I had just finished a few really good Robard books, but this was tedious to say the least. Throughout the whole novel Jon Hale ( I can't say hero) is abusing the heroine. First he kidnaps her then he rapes her over and over again and she despises him, and then in a blink she falls in love with him. How do you do that when he never treats you with any respect or even kindness. So he beats her, rapes her, calls her names, then they get married and he calls her a bith and a whore and then ten pages before the book ends he is raping her again!! And the worst part is I found out she made a sequel to this novel, Hmmmmmmmm....I wonder how he is going to treat her in that one. Don't waste your time with this book, I regret buying it.
Rating: Summary: FIRST ROMANCE EVER READ AND NOW I'M HOOKED!!!! Review: This was the first Romance Novel I ever read and I found it very difficult to read at first because I thought he was very violent with her. But for some reason I could not put it down. I continued reading and I have read several books since and none compare. This is a very beautify love story. One that can be read again and again.
Rating: Summary: WONDERFULLY EXCITING ROMANCE! Review: THIS WAS THE VERY FIRST HISTORICAL ROMANCE BOOK I READ AND IT HOOKED ME ON THEM FOREVER. I HAVE READ THIS BOOK SEVERAL TIMES AND IT IS ONE I KEEP ON THE BOOKSHELF FOR FUTURE READINGS. IT SHOWS A VERY STRONG WILLED PIRATE WHO CANNOT HELP HIMSELF BUT FALL IN LOVE WITH A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN WHO IS JUST AS STRONG WILLED HIMSELF. IT DOES HAVE SOME VIOLENT AREAS IN THE STORY BUT VERY FITTING FOR THE TIMES IT IS SET IN, AFTER ALL PIRATES WERE BRUTAL PEOPLE. DESPITE ALL THAT, CAPTIAN JON FINDS HE IS NOT SO HARD AFTERALL. WONDERFUL BOOK.
