Rating: Summary: Definitely Sabrina! Review: This is a retelling of one of my favorite stories. The dark, brooding, excessively proper man who falls in love with the wrong woman and does everything he shouldn't because he can't resist her. I enjoyed the dialogue, especially the handsome, reckless brother's dialogue, and his mother and her father are so wise and smart. I laughed all the way through, except at the love scenes, which were hot. Get a grip, people! This is a great book!
Rating: Summary: Christina Dodd's best Review: If you like Cinderella-type stories (like Sabrina), you'll love this. It's funny and sexy, with two of the best characters I've ever read in a romance. I fell in love with these people, even though I couldn't wait for Throckmorton to get his comeuppance. And man, did he ever! The closing scene made me laugh my head off -- and lust big time. A lot of fun, and a must buy!
Rating: Summary: Romance by Numbers Review: I was about four pages in when I realized that this book was a blatant, note for note rip-off of the Billy Wilder movie "Sabrina", with Bogart and Hepburn. While the story is one that I absolutly love, I found that by knowing exactly how the book was going to turn out (and every turn along the way) made for a more than predictable read. I am used to Dodd captivating us with strong heroines and alpha heros that, while we know all will be well in the end, take us on a ride that is funny, touching, and suprising, leaving us unable to put the book down. I only finished this book by force, hoping that she would somehow put in a suprise "whammy" somewhere along the way. Alas, no whammy. I look foward to her next book but I wish I had left this one on the shelf. (If you have never seen or heard of "Sabrina", disregard this entire review!)

Rating: Summary: Well-written & entertaining, but it's still Sabrina! Review: I wish I'd read the reviews here before I checked this out of the library! Then I would not have been so surprised when, a couple of pages into the book, I thought, "Wait a minute, this is Sabrina's plot!!" So the rest of the book I had to picture Humphrey Bogart as Garrick and Audrey Hepburn as Celeste! But that's all right, as the book was enjoyable anyway. After all, Sabrina doesn't have the suspenseful subplot involving the Russians, although I do not feel that was well enough explained, really. I almost felt that the book needed a prequel to set up the whole "Great Game" thing, along with the many mysterious references to the "family business".That said, Celeste, Garrick and Ellery are all well-done characters, even if we've already met them on film. The plot has its little twists and turns, but you know how it ends before you even begin (if you didn't, you wouldn't be a romance reader!). I loved Celeste's sassiness especially, even as I grew tired of Garrick's glowering. If you want a predictable, sweet romantic tale, this is a good read. If you want a novel plot, well, look at one of Christina Dodd's many other wonderful books.
Rating: Summary: Sabrina Remake Review: I am a big fan of Christina Dodd - but Please....this story was so close to the movie Sabrina that all I could see while reading it was Harrison Ford in the guise of Garrick Throckmorton. Okay, so you changed the family business a bit and had the extremely HOT seduction scene but please, no more movie remakes. This was not fair to anyone especially an author who I have seen devise such other delicious plots to so brazenly adopt the Sabrina story into this book. But hey, if you've never seen the movie Sabrina - it is a great story with all the essential pieces that make Christina Dodd a #1 read - love story, great sex, humor, and mystery.
Rating: Summary: In My Wildest Dreams-Garrick and Celeste-SPOILERS Review: favorite scene with celeste- her talk with garrick's mom and breaking his windows. favorite scene with garrick- saving his daughter. celeste and garrick together- admitting their love.
Rating: Summary: Move away from the VCR! Review: I see from other reviewers that I am not the only one who has noticed that Christina Dodd has watched "Sabrina" a few too many times. Unfortunately, unlike others, I do not see this novel as an "homage", but rather outright copying. I realize that there are few truly original plots left in the world, but the first half of this book borrows so heavily from the movie that I can almost see the stage directions in the margins of the script, excuse me, text. Since I was on vacation and didn't have another book with me, I slogged through to the end and ended up being mildly entertained. However, I have come to expect much better from Christina Dodd and hope that whatever publishing house deadline demands led to this heavy-handed plot borrowing do not present a similar problem in the future.
Rating: Summary: If you liked "Sebrina"... Review: The text was actually well written. I just had some difficulty getting past the similarities to the movie "Sebrina". I kept picturing Greg Kinear and Harrison Ford as the lead male roles. The female was described differently. As the book progressed many differenced emerged and gave it a redeeming quality.
Rating: Summary: WHICH BROTHER DO I WANT? Review: During her adolescence, lively Celeste Milford, the gardener's daughter, pines for the rakish Ellery and declares that she will someday marry him. However, at age seventeen, Celeste is sent away to school to become a governess. When she returns four yars later, she's grown into a lovely and cultured woman, but she's still determined to marry Ellery. Unfortunately, Celeste returns just in time to attend Ellery's betrothal party, where the formal announcement of his engagement to Lady Hyacinth (a woman Ellery doesn't wish to marry) will be announced. Ellery's older brother and "lord-of-the-manor" Garrick, stands on the sidelines and watches all. Garrick is thought to be old (31), dull and boring. Yet inside him beats a most passionate heart. And now, that heart is directed toward Celeste, while a series of misadventures keep Celeste and Ellery apart. IN MY WILDEST DREAMS is a story where social class and birthright mean everything. Mystery and intrigue add to this book. In their wildest dreams, none of the characters could have foreseen the ending.
