Rating: Summary: This book is better than the cover! Review: I thoroughly enjoyed Once in a Blue Moon. The portrayal of the main characters, Denise and Ian was realist and I felt emotionally involved in their budding relationship right from the first few chapters. In fact, I immediately realized this book was going to be a "keeper". I fell in love with Ian myself; he developed from an arrogant, commitment shy loner into a warm, caring and focused individual. Both characters grew and became better people as a result of their relationship; you could see how they brought out the best in each other. I stayed up till 3:00 a.m. reading this book and hated to leave this wonderful love story. I have read several interracial romance novels and feel this book rates as one of the best. The author spends quite of bit time dealing with Denise and her family's negative views on interracial relationships, but its relevant consider the family history
Rating: Summary: Heroine was very inmature, her family unrealistic!! Review: I thought the writer did a good job of developing the relantionship of the two main chacters. I do feel through that the heroine was very inmature. For godsakes, she is 26-27 years old!!!! Why is she so concerned with what her family approval of, who dates, and marries? The book centered around this topic through out the complete storyline. I got VERY VERY tired of it to be honest. It was hard for me to believe that Denise and her family were educated informed African Americans, living in modern times. I come from a similar type of family that the author was trying to unsucessfully develop. I did throughly like Ian. He was the only good thing about this book.....Buy this book if its on sale..
Rating: Summary: Great interracial book! Review: Ian and Denise are an awesome couple. The book takes you through their courtship. You can't help, but fall in love with this couple. Every woman could only hope for a man like Ian. This book will not disappoint. If you collect interracial books, this is definitely a great book. If you don't, but you like romance don't pass this one up. It won't disappoint.
Rating: Summary: Passion that sizzles. Review: If you like a interracial love story were the mans feelings are explored more than this story is for you. I just thought this was a wonderful love story between a man and a women and were the women has more doubts than the man.
Rating: Summary: Once in a Blue Moon Review: Once in a Blue Moon was a very good read. Ian and Denise were very believable characters with just the right amount of chemistry. I, for one fell in love with Ian, who wouldn't? Talk about a Knight in shinning armor... The story moved along at a good pace and I was unable to put it down. I did not particularly like Denise's family's involvement in her relationships. However, I know in close knit families this can happen. Lynn's intrusion into her sister's life, was a little on the obsessive side; Denise should have been woman enough to tell her sister where to get off, because if I'd had a man like Ian in love with me as much as this man loved Denise, it would not matter what color he was; I would have told Lynn to mind her own business. I understood that they had more of a mother-sister relationship instead of sister-sister, but the woman was nearly thirty years old--a little too old to be told who she should and should not love. All in all, the book was very entertaining, which is what reading is suppose to be, and it was better than some of the other interracial titles I've read, including Pamela Starr's "Fate" and heaven forbid, "Shades of Desire." "Blue Moone ranked up near "The Color of Love" which is one the best love stories I've ever read. I highly recommend this one.
Rating: Summary: Characters I Actually Cared About Review: Out of all the interracial romance novels on the market, and there aren't that many, 'Once In A Blue Moon' was probably the most character-driven tale yet. Ms. Cole did such a remarkable job of bringing Denise Adams and Ian Phillips to life, I felt as if I might have known them. While reading this book, I found myself talking back to Denise when she discovered just how much she liked Ian--people on the bus probably thought I'd lost it. My heart ached for Ian when Denise broke off their relationship. I booed her sister Lynn, with her narrow-minded attitudes (I wanted to slap her silly). Ms. Cole realistically dealt with the uncertain terrain that often comes with an interracial relationship, although some of the attitudes I found distasteful, especially coming from blacks, who know better than most how damaging prejudice can be. I also liked the fact that Denise was more of a bookish-computer nerd type, rather than the typical "strong black woman". After all, there's many types of strength, and she proved it when she decided that Ian was the man for her. Of course, Ian was the kind of man that every woman wants, no matter what colour he is. I will be reading this book again, and hopefully, not as fast. I want to savor each page.
Rating: Summary: DON¿T judge this book by its cover... Review: The cover does not do this book justice nor does it match the character descriptions given. Ian Phillips and Denise Adams are forced to work together and become interested in one another but depart once their assignment is completed. Ian is definitely interested in dating Denise but does not think she will go out with him. Denise is attracted to Ian but knows that nothing can ever come of it. Well, Ian can't get Denise off his mind and decides to call her at work and ask her out. I just love Ian. Like any relationship, they both make mistakes. There were times when I wanted to smack Ian and even more times when I wanted to smack Denise (and her sister). Ian's love for Denise is what really makes this story. He is not ashamed of his feelings for Denise, does not hesitate to let her and his family know that he wants to spend the rest of his life with her and refused give up. Denise loves seems to be weak but comes through in the end.
Rating: Summary: Good for Your Collection Review: The other reviewers have done a great job retelling the story, I just want to say that this is worth the readers' of interracial romances purchasing (there are far too few books published in this genre -- are you listening to us publishers?). One of the best moments for me was when Denise's mother tells her to follow her heart with Ian and divulges her very poignant tale of losing a great love of her life (not Denise's Dad) because of their racial differences. I would love to have Dorianne Cole tell THAT story in a future book and, perhaps, up date it...they could meet again. That would be quite a novel because it would also demonstrate that these romances are not new.
Rating: Summary: just wonderful Review: This book is a must read for those interested in interracial romance novels. It is realistic, funny and poignant. One of the best I've read.
Rating: Summary: GREAT Review: This book was great. I loved Ian. He was compassionate, yet sexy and understanding. This book had the right balance and was realistic with regard to interracial romances. Yeah Ms. Cole!
