Rating: Summary: middle child Review: This is the most realistic i/r novel I have read this year. it just hit right home. With almost giving up one's own desires to keep the family peace. But I am so glad that Denise realized what needed to be done and went ahead and made her own decisions.
Rating: Summary: You can judge a book by its cover. Review: This novel can't compete with Sandra Kitt's books on interracial relationships between black women and white men. The cover of the book made it seem like it was going to be a good read. The models were in a sultry and seductive pose. However, after a week of reading the book, I came to the conclusion that the story dragged on. Ms. Cole was trying too hard to get her audience to understand what interracial relationships are on a black female/white male perspective. She tended to focus too much on Denise Adams and her family rather than the situation between Denise and Ian. After reading 200 pages of the book, I felt that the development of the relationship was going to be going nowhere. It wasn't a good idea of the author to substitute a name for Howard University. If she didn't want to use the name of the college, she could've just used historically black college in DC. Recommended reading on this particular subject: "Fate" by Pamela Leigh Starr and "Color of Love" by Sandra Kitt. These novels have more development in their characters and plots.
Rating: Summary: Where is Ms. Cole's Next Book? Review: To the best of my knowledge, I've read all the interracial (bw/wm) romance novels currently available and this one is excellent. One of my complaints about IR romances is the lack of sensuality, it's almost as if the author is afraid to "go there." As I'm also an avid reader of mainstream romances, I find this to be very frustrating. Indeed the only other book in this genre that displays similar sensuality is "No Commitment Required" by Seressia Glass. I especially enjoyed the insight into Ian's character. And I liked the fact that these characters were not isolated from other people of their own race, a factor that is all to common in IR romances.I also enjoyed the full character development, and while the production values could be better, this is a thoroughly good read. This is definitely on par with Sandra Kitt.
Rating: Summary: just wonderful Review: Unfortunately, some familiy members do get sensitive when someone dates/marries outside of their race. Having dealt with that problem being a black woman who dated than married my Norwegian husband. I can appreciate Denise hestiation, but when faced with the prospect of not being with the man you love or making the family happy in this case she wisely followed her heart. Denise needed to face her family early on rather than hiding Ian from them. It only reinforced in their minds that she is still "baby girl". Ian, was right to tell her she needed to start a life with him and not be a babysitter. The former boyfriend Kenny was a real jerk coming back into Denise's life during a family crisis. Why the family did not say anything to him is beyond me. Hat's off to Ian for pursuing the woman he loved. If you want to read a real romance that develops slowly, by all means read Once in a Blue Moon!
