Rating: Summary: Curl Up! Review: Housewrights is a delightful read. Lily is a terrific protagonist, a character who is energetic and likeable. When she first encounters the Pritchard twins, she is intrigued by their quiet intensity. The three children quickly discover that they all enjoy flirting with danger. However, Lily is able to laugh at herself, and the situation, when she admits that she can't tell the twins apart. Her practical solution is perfect, and reappears years later with romantic resonance when Oren comes to claim his bride.Lily devotes her life to caring for her new husband, but she also brings his war-wounded brother into their house. Lily, Oren and Ian are bound together by their lack of pretense, but the book turns when they discover they need to act like other people want them to be. With their unsual domestic arrangement no longer tolerated by the community, the threesome must split up with awkward and hurtful consequences. Art Corrveau writes impressively from the perspective of our protagonist -- whether she is responding to a handsome suitor, or trying to duck her obnoxious neighbor. He also weaves an interesting story that allows her to grow in unpredictable ways. If you are a fan of Alice Hoffman, who crafts tales that are magical and sensual, you will be happy reading Housewrights as well. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Don't Miss This One Review: I couldn't put this book down. It was so mesmerizing and unusual, yet thoroughly believable. I found myself transported into the small town world of Lily Willard and fell in love with Oren and Ian Pritchard right along with her. I didn't want it to end. Art Corriveau is an enchanting and talented writer, and I can't wait for his next book.
Rating: Summary: Curl Up! Review: I enjoyed this book, particularly the first and last chapters. However, I don't think I was quite as impressed with it as previous reviewers have been. I do think it is, for the most part, wonderfully written. I didn't always find the characters convincing, though, particularly in the middle chunk of the story, and there were certainly some anachronistic moments. That said, it's a well-crafted story with engaging characters that kept me interested from cover to cover. Also, given its length and fluidity, it's a quick read. If your tastes lean toward the more "literary" of today's writers, this is a book to pick up. However, I would warn potential readers that if books have the ability to depress you, you should either avoid this one, or try to read it all in one sitting. The ending is uplifting, but I paused about three-quarters of the way through and ended up moping around the house until I finished it. I'm curious to see what else Art Corriveau has to offer...

Rating: Summary: Absolutely Loved It Review: I hate wasting my valuable time reading a so-so book with a terrible ending. Most books I read fall under either this category or are just plain stupid right from the beginning. I am happy to say Housewrights does NOT fall under either of these two categories! It is a great read. Housewrights is actually a remarkably short book that tells a very detailed, complete story. The twins' relationship is fascinating, and I absolutely loved Lily. One sign of a good book is when you actually care about the characters. I actually cried during the last few pages of this one! Super writing, lovable characters, a plot that is interesting, background characters who are developed. Need I say more? You'll be happy you read this one, just as I was! I can't wait for Art's next book.

Rating: Summary: Excellent novel, I was swept into it immediately! Review: I never have much time to read anything of my choice, for I am always occupied with my required school reading. Summer is here and my summer book list has not yet come, so I visited the library and checked out "Housewrights" among others. I read it first and I must say, it had me hooked. I couldn't put it down for an instant. I was barely able to stay away from it for an hour so I could say goodbye to my boyfriend before he left for the weekend (that's saying something!) I stayed up until 1:30 the second night of my reading venture so I could finish. Tears rolled as I felt the pain and suffering of Lily. I wanted to shake Oren for his silence and Hallie for her insensitivity and idiocy. I highly reccommend this book to everyone.

Rating: Summary: Absolutely Loved It Review: If you haven't read this novel yet, you're missing a big treat. Everyone I've recommended it to has enjoyed it as much as I did -- it's filled with love and yearning, petty small town jealousy and characters you will never forget.
