Summary: HUGE disappointment
Review: When I heard about the concept and the Hollywood bidding war that ensued for this book, I thought that I was going to be in for an interesting read. I am still impressed with the concept, but this has to be one of the clunkiest things I have ever read. A story with the cast of perfect characters and sugary platitudes that just doesn't cut it as worthwhile reading. The first two chapters showed immense potential but the dialogue when Laurel and Arthur got together was cloying and unnatural. Much of the "life live to the fullest" content was the same old same old and I read parts of this in spam emails that I DID NOT forward to my friends. If this thing is going to be made into a movie, the dialogue has to be thrown out the window and somebody has to cut the sugary sentimentality out of it.

Summary: What a different concept!
Review: As an avid reader, I seem to often find myself reading the same worn-out formulas, but just reading the overview of this novel told me I was in for a treat. I was not disappointed! The surreal becomes real and believable in this novel of love, hope and second chances. The more serious, underlying message in this novel could not be ignored. I read the last few lines with a smile and a renewed appreciation for life!! This is a book you will pass on to all your friends!

Summary: golden shovel award nominee number two
Review: i remember going to the booksinging for this: me and maybe one other person had shown up. mark had become so disgusted that he cancelled the signing. when i asked him to sign the book, he rudely took the book from me, scribbled his john hancock and handed it back to me like it was a turd...

i waited almost a year before reading this book. i shouldn't have bothered. typical sitcom tripe. a guy who's a crub moves into a house haunted by the ghost of a woman in a coma; she reveals herself to him, tells him " only you can see me " she pleads for his help, the usual calamity ensues, they fall in love, yada, yada, yada...one of the reasons i haven't watched t.v. in a year was because i wanted to read more, to strengthen my mind. i didn't expect to find books to be this dumbed down...levy proves that all you need to do to aualify as an author is to compose a complete sentence...i was not moved at all by this story...i gave up after the first third, then later sold the book. i could write a better novel and i'm a poet. maybe i should try writing a book. i couln't do any worse than he did. my second nominee for the golden shovel for the worst book i ever read...

Summary: A Movie Of The Week
Review: Marc Levy, perhaps inspired in part by the screwball Cary Grant comedies of the 30's, and in part by movies like The Ghost And Mrs. Muir, has written a light novel that works as a screen play, but not as a serious work of fiction.

The main characters are Lauren, a Doctor who meets an untimely accident, and Arthur, a hopeless romantic who by chance leases the very apartment that Lauren, now in a deep coma, decided to haunt.

The rest is rather contrived, involving Arthur and Lauren in a race against both time and logic, to somehow make a relationship between a spirit and a man work.

I could see this book turned into a movie; if you think about all of the silly plots that work in a movie, this is not so far fetched. But as a book it is chock full of cliches, from the cop with a golden heart who is on his last case, to the soppy flashbacks to Arthur's late mother and her own cliche of a life.

Should you read it, beware that badly written as it is, it is addictive. So what if the author telegraphs the predictable ending, or if anyone old enough to remember the TV sitcom Bewitched can recognize Arthur's partner as Larry, it is what it is - an easy read that you can take to the beach.

Summary: If I wanted something serious I'd turn on the news
Review: ...my title says it. If I wanted something serious I would turn on the news. This storyline is silly, but somehow it works. This is a great book to read on the beach or your comfy couch. Just don't take it too seriously and you will enjoy it.

Summary: If Only It Were True
Review: READ THIS BOOK! I'm only 13, and I absolutely loved it. I mean, I couldn't put it down! A highly entertaining read. Within the 1st hour, I was already on, like, page 62, no kidding! I'm always hyper, so my mom worships that book like the Bible for keeping me quiet. I've told all of my friends, then loaned it to them. They loved it, too! So now I want you to go read it. .... Yay! I love happy endings!!! ;)

Summary: What a great read!!!
Review: This was a fun, light hearted story that was a quick read. I didn't want it to end. I can't wait for Marc's next book

Summary: An Enjoyable, Uplifting, Fun Little Read...
Review: I was in the mood for something light and fun when I picked up this book, and I was well rewarded for the thought. "If Only It Were True," is a heartwarming little story with a fantasy touch.

Lauren is a doctor who has a horrible car accident at the beginning of the novel, ending up in a coma.

Months later, unknowingly living in her home, Arthur, a young architect, is interrupted in his bath when he hears someone snapping their fingers in his closet. He opens the door, and there is Lauren. He can see her, he can touch her, and he can hear her. She is a living ghost, but for some reason he is able to interact with her.

Far from being a typical ghostly-love story, "If Only It Were True," departs from the usual formulas, and actually manages to throw in some wonderful and thought-provoking concepts into the mix. Should Arthur allow Lauren's mother to turn off the life support machines and gain her mother closure and an end to the pain - given that her "ghost" might fade? There is much more to this read than meets the eye on first glance, and it is well worth the small investment of time. You'll smile, and feel warmed, by this book.

Summary: Good time killer
Review: An interesting and often quirky look at romance. Levy explores this emotion called love with style. Going from several deep moments to light hearted comedy. It is a perfect book for light reading.
