Rating: Summary: Really 4 3/4 stars! Review: If you are one of those romance readers who must have a dark, brooding tale, this book isn't for you. However, if you like a light-hearted story with sexy, funny heroes this one is for you. What I found especially unusual and refreshing about this book is that the characters had a past history and now years later they are pulled together again. I loved the scenes from their previous times and wanted so much for them to get past their past and find the happiness they each deserved. Patrick, the sexy, repentent rogue was so utterly charming that he stole the book. His funny lines were the highlight of the novel for me. If you need a lift or a change from more serious-minded books, this one is definitely a great pick. As they say about acting, comedy is harder than drama and Jillian Hunter has proven her penchant for comedic characters without being flippant or silly. I will definitely be reading this one again for Patrick's observations and comments alone.
Rating: Summary: Great read Review: INDISCRETION is a wonderful Victorian romancethat uses elements normally found in a historical mystery. The storyline is entertaining mostly because of the droll verbal duels between the lead players. The support cast serves as a window on the era as well as an impetus towards propelling the intelligent tale to conclusion. Anyone who reads this enjoyable tale will immediately hunt down previous novels by delightful Jillian Hunter.Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: Hunter pens another winner! Review: Jillian Hunter has done it again. INDISCRETION has everything I look for in a historical romance. Bawdy humor, sizzling sensuality and wonderful writing. Heroine Anne Kerr is sharp and witty and adept at keeping hero Patrick at arms length, but not too far. Patrick, a Viscount posing as a butler, is hilarous and endearing. Add a touch of mystery and Scotland and you have a read that's hard to put down until the very last page.
Rating: Summary: A very lusty farce and an altogether wonderful romance Review: Jillian Hunter just seems to get better and better. What makes Indiscretion work so well is the plot structure, which immediately reveals the past relationship between widowed heroine Anne and Patrick Sutherland, fifth Viscount Glengramach. Queen Victoria sends these two, in the company of Patrick's eccentric aunt, to investigate the death of Anne's uncle - was it murder or did he die of natural causes? While determining that is the basis for the story, it does not IN THE LEAST bog down the romantic interplay between Anne and Patrick, or the clever banter with and between secondary characters who are wonderful as well. Anne wants nothing to do with him and Patrick will do anything to get her back, even if it means suffering from "housemaid's knee" while pretending to be her butler. This is an incredibly witty farce and is a far more sexual book than others I've read by author Hunter in the past. It's terrific! TTFN, Laurie Likes Books Publisher, All About Romance
Rating: Summary: Jillian Hunter's Best Novel To Date! Review: Like so many romance writers today, in this tale Jillian Hunter crosses the genre lines into mystery without leaving the historical romance field behind. She successfully blends the genres into a fun and exciting adventure for the reader. In my opinion, this is Jillian Hunter's best book to date. The real bonus for the reader is her typical comical interactions between vivid characters. You can actually see yourself or people you know in many of these situations. The story is of Anne Kerr, who has never gotten over the scandal of a brief affair with Patrick Sutherland before he left to fight with the infantry. She was then quickly married off to his cousin so her parents wouldn't have to deal with the headstrong girl any longer. Seven years later, Patrick and Anne are thrown together by royal decree - they must investigate the mysterious death of an uncle, with the help of Aunt Nellwyn, a widow who has outlasted several husbands but will never overlook a good time. The story is set at Anne's hunting lodge with Patrick acting as her butler, which in itself brings about many humorous situations. One of the best things that Hunter brings to her books is her vivacious characters and their amusing repartee. She has compelling women and romantic men who always seem to have battles of wits throughout her books. This tale will have you laughing your way through as you try to figure out who the villain is that killed Uncle Edgar and then on to the last page. Indiscretion should be a definite addition to your list of "must read" books!
Rating: Summary: Hunter at her finest! Review: Once again, Jillian Hunter entertains with incredible dialogue, plot, and characters, not to mention sparkling wit. No doubt about it, Hunter is one of the finest romance authors in the genre today. I have never been disappointed in one of her books, and this one is no exception. Bravo!
Rating: Summary: You'll read this one over and over. Review: Patrick Sutherland, fifth Viscount Glengramach, had seduced Anne Kerr and then went into the military. Seven years later, he saw her again. He had never forgotten her. In those seven years they had seldom spoken to each other. She had married his second cousin and spent much time in the Highlands. Now she was known as the Widow of White-avens. He planned to show her how much he cared for her. He planned to woo her, reawaken her passion for him, and wed her. Anne hated Patrick! She avoided him at all times. When Queen Victoria summoned her, she had no idea Patrick had been summoned as well. The Queen sent them and Aunt Nellwyn back to the Highlands. Lord Kingairn had died of heart failure while out rowing. Awful rumors about the death were beginning to spread. The three were to find the source of the rumors. Only Patrick was happy about it. Anne could not avoid him during the Queen's private query. However, he did not expect Nellwyn to make him Anne's butler! Worse, Sir Wallace Abermuir was out to seduce and marry Anne as well! But someone in the area knew how Lord Kingairn really died and would do anything to stop the query. *** WOW! This one will hold your attention for sure! And let me tell you, Patrick is definitely NOT butler material! A hilarious, fun, and wild adventure you will enjoy over and over! ***
Rating: Summary: Just Not My Cup of Tea! Review: There is a really interesting story buried inside of "Indiscretion"--but it never has a chance to get out into the daylight. Jillian Hunter, striving for a very light touch, packs the story with silly situations and "sit-com" style conversational zingers which, in my humble opinion, make the story less than it could be. However, if that sort of story *is* your cup of tea, prepare to be entertained.
Anne Kerr was a beautiful, lonely and wild young girl when she met and was seduced by the handsome, reckless, devil-may-care Patrick Sutherland. When Patrick goes off to join the infantry, a devastated Anne ends up marrying his cousin, David. Seven years later, Anne (now a widow) and Patrick are brought together again by the order of Queen Victoria--supposedly to investigate the death of Patrick's uncle, Lord Kingairn, that occurred at a shooting party on Anne's estate one year previously. Now this is a pretty flimsy set-up to bring the hero and heroine together, but the real lynchpin of the plot is that Patrick is to pose as Anne's butler during the investigation--supposedly so that he can question the servants more easily.
I found the beginning of the book to be very heavy going--it took me *days* to get through the first 100 pages, and that for me is *forever*! The investigation is arranged by the Queen and Patrick's eccentric Aunt Nellwyn while Anne constantly snipes away at Patrick and Patrick murmurs suggestive remarks into Anne's ear (very frequently they do both in front of other people!) Then Patrick takes on the role of the butler and the book veers towards slapstick comedy. He is one heck of a rude, irreverent butler and *some* of his remarks are witty--but not enough of them to sustain the farce (in my opinion).
Anne is an interesting character and one that should have inspired sympathy (ruined and abandoned by her thoughtless lover as a young girl); however, she is so very nasty and bitter almost throughout the book that she is a little bit hard to like. In contrast, Patrick, who should be censured for his less than honorable behavior in his youth, is a delightful character--repentant, charming and passionate--a viscount who is willing to masquerade as a butler in order to be close to Anne. Frankly, I thought that the best parts of the book were the flashback scenes to Anne and Patrick's day of "indiscretion"--which had more passion and heart than the rest of the story.
In summary, this is a very light historical romance set in Victorian times with a minimal dusting of a murder mystery, a big streak of comedy and an engagingly imperfect hero.
Rating: Summary: Funny and charming Review: This book was just as hilarious as Ms. Hunter's previous books. Both the hero and heroine as likeable and believable. The only reason I did not rate it with five stars is the less-than-strong plot, a supposed "murder mystery" with a somewhat muddled solution. "Indiscretion" is definately worth a read, though, if for nothing else than Ms. Hunter's fine dialogue and her great comedic situations.
Rating: Summary: Remarkably funny Review: This must be the most funny book I've ever read ! Although the story is weak, and the language could have been better, I will still recommend it to everyone who wants to laugh and dream themselves away for a while. Anne Kerr and Patrick Sutherland have been sent to Scotland to investigate a murder mystery. But this is not the only reason. Patrick's aunt is behind, and hopes to make a couple of the two hotheads. In order to avoid suspicion, Patrick has to pose as Anne's butler, a role he neither wants, nor is well fitted for. When Anne receives a suitor, Patrick is enraged with jealousy, and does his best to sabotage, creating the most hilarious situations.
