Rating: Summary: A True Fire From The Start... Review: "Shadowfires" was another wonderful book in the long line of great Koontz novels, and this one was no different.
We have the story of a woman named Rachel, and her husband, Eric Leben. Eric was a doctor in genetics who was fighting with his wife until he is pushed in front of a bus, by her, and killed. Rachel felt that maybe freedom was at last hers, until hours later, Eric is missing from the morgue, and we learn the awful truth of his secret work.
I felt that this book had action from the very first few pages, and did not stop until the very last word. I was thrilled with the roller coaster of a ride that Koontz took me on, and i could not put the book down once i started on the journey. Koontz makes great use of location, and our fears of within, to give us this great chiller of the experiments of man to be more than human. A definite gem in the Koontz collection, a must have for any collector, and a great place to start for anyone taking a look at his work for the first time. A Masterpiece. My only wish of this book: It should have been made into a movie. -CW
Rating: Summary: Fast-Paced, Suspenseful & Unpredictable... Review: ...well 2 out of 3 isn't bad. The book followed a typical Koontz pattern and the climax was somewhat predictable. Still, page for page, chapter for chapter, the book kept me interested enough to keep turning its pages. In my own book records, I give it a 7 out of 10 with the intent of keeping this book to re-read a few years down the road. Certainly, not a waste of time to read. In fact, the book is somewhat disturbing in the mental images it can evoke. Get it !
Rating: Summary: One of Koontz's Best! Review: Although some people have stated that the science rejuvination of the antogaonist was far-fetched, I found the chase from beginning to end of this novel to be very hard to put down. Koontz's plot in 'Shadowfires' definately ranks with the best of his work including 'Watchers' and 'Lightning'.
Rating: Summary: A waste of time Review: Am I the only person who hated this book? According to the other reviews, if this is Dean Koontz's best novel, then I would hate to see what his others are like. I found this book very cliche. I had heard so many good things about this writer, but what I discovered completely contradicted everything. It seemed like the book was intended to be made into a movie. It was typical of a slasher film where the villain never dies. Koontz tells you about his characters instead of building their personalities through dialogue or description. The heroine's boyfriend seems to be just an average "Mr. Nice Guy" at the beginning of the novel. Come to find out he has a secret. He is actually a former War Hero who just might be the only person on the planet who can actually get rid of the story's villain. He's the perfect supporting character, a sensitive man, yet tough enough and smart enough to give Eric Leben a challenge. Steven Seagal would best play his part in a movie. If you like his movies, you may like this book. I have read many Stephen King novels and find them far superior. King is a much better novelist. Hopefully, this is enough information to help one decide if this book should be read.
Rating: Summary: Great! Hooray for Koontz. Review: Another must read. This book will scare and thrill you. I read this book in two sittings. I couldn't put it down. This shows what a great imagination Dean has. MUST READ!
Rating: Summary: Is it just me or was it stupid that Eric could never die ? Review: Don't get me wrong this book was ok, more like one thumb up one thumb down, but it was just that Eric Leben the bad guy of the book just could never die. I hate books (and movies) like that where the killer keeps coming back to life even after he has been shot, slautered, and in Eric's case bitten by dozens of poisonous snakes. I really liked 'The Key to Midnight' by Koontz but this one was just unreal. This book was very good until about halfway into it where Eric kept coming back to life, I mean wasn't getting hit by a garbage truck enough? This book would have been M U C H better if Eric just didn't keep coming back from the dead.
Rating: Summary: Awsome! I don't know what the bad reviewsers are smokin! Review: Dude, this really kicks. I really really liked this book. I've read about 6 Koontz books and a few King. I like Koontz WAY better than King for a few reasons. 1) Koontz doesn't have the meaningless, stupid, boring details that haunt EVERY King book. 2) Koontz has pretty good endings to his stories...King does NOT. Anyway, this book is very cool and I suggest you read it if your a horror book fan...Otherwise, what are you doing on this page? haha...Cool, Cool book.
Rating: Summary: Zombies are real, but they have some issues to deal with Review: Eric Leben is a brilliant rich scientist. He's not a nice guy though and after an encounter with a garbage truck is dead. Rachael who had decided to settle on next to nothing in their divorce settlement suddenly inherits his company. The government knows what Eric was working on and wants his secrets and everyone who knows about them. Meanwhile Eric's corpse walks out of the morgue. He wants his documents back and his wife dead. Being immortal isn't as much fun as you'd think, Eric has some physical and mental issues to deal with. Ben Shadway who has had a crush on Rachael since he met her decides to accompany her while she flees those after her. He has a few secrets of his own and enemies. This isn't Koontz's best work. It's fairly dated with references to communism with national security. It's storyline is fairly predictable in parts and the ending is very disappointing and unimaginatively simple. I also didn't think the moral dilemma about Anson Sharp was resolved properly for Jerry Peake before he acted either.
