Summary: A fast, pleasant read...
Review: "Highland Honor" was a sweet book. Although I enjoyed getting to know the characters of Gavin and Hannah, I felt that I had a little trouble connecting with them...I also thought that some of the book needed tightening to improve the storys flow. I did, however, think that the idea for the tale was a clever one. The authors writing style reminded me a bit of Julie Garwood. All in all this missed being a keeper for me, but I am glad that I had a chance to read it and will look to see what Ms. Pepio comes up with in the future

Summary: All the right ingredients...
Review: Highland Honor has all the right ingredients - attractive and likeable main characters, nasty enemies and family members, interesting and believable dialog, wonderful historical setting, and an engaging plot. Ms. Pepio's debut novel has me anxious to see her next work. Readers of Catherine Coulter or Johanna Lindsey historical romances will love this one. Thanks for the good read!

Summary: Fast paced and enthralling
Review: I found this book to be fast paced and enthralling. It's rare to find an author who gets right to the point of the plot and the romance and doesn't fill the pages with historic trifle for no other gratuitous purpose than to increase the word count. I find this to be the case in historicals all too often.

In Highland Honor, Ms. Pepio takes the reader right into the heart of the story and the characters' lives. The plot never lags, sags or slows. Exciting, original and inventive, I highly recommend Highland Honor. Thanks for a great, great read with such a fresh new perspective! Candace Sams, National Readers' Choice winner.

Summary: 2 1/2 stars
Review: I read this based on a friend's recommendation and it took me quite a while to finish. I thought the story line was unique, but the main characters didn't hold my attention. I simply didn't like Hannah. I will try more of her writing in the future because Pepio does have potential.

Summary: A Perfect Example Of Why You Read Romance Novels!!!!
Review: Ms. Pepio's debut novel is a perfect example of why you read a romance novel. I loved this book and did not put it down until I finished it! This had all of my favorite things. Set in Scotland, Yummy men in kilts,Romance, and very likeable characters (both primary and secondary)

A Chance meeting....

Gavin MacGregor and Hannah Campbell have a chance meeting that will change their lives forever. After sharing a kiss neither expected Gavin promises to help Hannah find her way home after she ran away from a bad situation. Before he can keep his promise his father and members of his clan are attacked and his father is killed before his eyes. Gavin is also hurt so is unaware that Hannah played a part saving his life. Gavin goes on thinking the lovely lass from the lake was killed and that he let her down...Hannah goes on knowing that she saved the love of her young life. Little did either know their paths would cross again.

Destined for Love....

Ten years later Gavin is ready to become the chieftain of his clan. He has grown older and wiser as a result of the death of his father and he is willing to do whatever it takes to make sure that his clan is safe. He will even go so far as to marry a rival clan's daughter. He makes a deal with the chieftain of the clan Campbell. He will marry his sister but promises that he will return her after a year and a day is up, or until their common foe is taken down. Gavin promises not to consummate the marriage and this is not a problem until he sees his new bride. He is surprised that she awakens feeling in him that he thought were long dead. Problem is he does not remember her as the lass he kissed at the loch ten years earlier.

Hannah Campbell willingly joins with Gavin. She remembers that he is boy that stole her heart so long ago. She does not understand why Gavin runs hot and then cold but she does know that she loves him and has for the past ten years. She knows that once he remembers her things will be better. Still despite the fact that Gavin does not remember her they are both drawn to each other and the natural chemistry that they shared earlier is alive and well. Soon Gavin decides that he cares not for his promise to Owen Campbell and he allows himself to love Hannah fully.

Together they fight a common enemy but neither realizes that this enemy may be closer then they thought. Will they bring an end to the horror that started ten years earlier along side a Scottish loch before Gavin realizes he has always loved Hannah and that they already have a history and past before she is taken away from him again?

This author amazed me with her storytelling ability. She has a very unique voice that is reminiscent of classic Julie Garwood and her Scottish tales. Ms. Pepio is a great new talent and we are all lucky that she has shared her talent with us. This story made me laugh and cry which is always in my opinion as a sign of a good book. I was so sad when I finished the story and had to say farewell to Gavin and Hannah. This book has made it onto my keeper shelf and Ms. Pepio will be an author I will purchase on name recognition alone! I can't wait for her next book!

I highly recommend this book to anyone and if I could I would have given it 10*'s!

Summary: Amateur attempt
Review: Setting - Scottish Highlands 1150 --- In establishing the story, ten years earlier young Hannah Campbell had run away from home and met young Gavin MacGregor bathing in the loch. Discovering he was from a rival clan she did not want to give her name knowing that the MacGregors and Campbells had always hated one another. Gavin pledged his word to the pretty young imp that he would see her safely home. Hannah having grown impatient waiting for him to fetch his horse went in search of him and witnessed the brutal ambush of Gavin's clan and the murder of his father by a renegade member of her clan. She, along with her brother Owen who arrived shortly after the slaughter, were able to rescue and save Gavin from his injuries - the sole survivor of the ambush.

Years later, and having been told that the young girl he'd met had died that day, Gavin in an attempt to lay to rest the rivalry between the clans is honor bound to keep the pledge of he'd made of granting a boon to Owen. The boon turned out to be that Gavin would agree to marry Owen's maiden sister. Furthermore, Owen made him promise the handfast would last for a year and a day, or until they could track down and bring to justice the renegade Dougal Campbell who had slain Gavin's father years before. The other caveat requested was that Gavin give his word of honor that he would not consummate the marriage. Gavin did not want to marry, but was honor bound to keep his pledge although angry, at the added condition. But then the thought of getting out of a marriage he didn't want in the first place didn't sound too bad, that is until he saw what a beautiful woman Owen's old maiden sister turned out to be! Gavin did not recognize Hannah as she'd never revealed her name and Owen had told him that the young girl he'd met that day had been killed. Hannah had never forgotten the young man she'd fallen in love with all those years ago and was somewhat hurt that he did not recognize her, but even more so when he started acting as though he hated her in an attempt to keep himself from ravishing the beauty that was his wife in name only. He couldn't tell her of Owen's added condition and unfortunately, he could only war with both himself and Hannah as he tried to control the raging passion he felt for the bride he could not touch.

This debut historical novel by Lori Pepio was a truly enjoyable read. The dialog was as sweet and spunky as the heroine herself and Gavin was depicted as both brave, strong and fun. The secondary characters were interesting and well defined adding more enjoyment to the main plot. Hannah's young niece Alyce was a delight who I would love to see have her own story some day. Historically, as all good Scottish medieval novels go, it had its scenes of sweet tenderness along with the reality of the brutality that went along with that period. It is hoped that with its sensual love scenes, great dialog and charming protagonists, this book will mark the start of a debut author's rising star.
