Rating: Summary: Scarlett's adventures don't end in her big house in Atlanta Review: Margaret Mitchell"s "Gone With the Wind" left thousands of viewers and readers hanging....what will happen to Scarlett and Rhett? Will they get back together? Alexandra Ripley's sequel answers all those questions and more. Scarlett expands her travels to Charleston and Ireland, where she visits the real Tara. By the end of the book Scarlett will shock you by growing up. Altogether "Scarlett" is a great sequel to Margaret Mitchell's classic "Gone With the Wind".
Rating: Summary: A Very Good Book Review: I really liked this book!! I read some of the reviews before I read the book, and I was actually expecting a lot worse from what other people had to say about it. I'm not going to give away the ending or anything like that, I think it's up to you to decided what you think of it, but I liked it!!!
Rating: Summary: It started off well... Review: I really enjoyed this book most of the way through until it got to towards the end, which I really hated. It was a bit like the author suddenly thought "oh my God I'm nearly towards the end of this book and I haven't got Scarlett and Rhett back together again yet - quick, I better do something!". So practically in the space of a chapter: Colum and Mrs Fitz, characters which the reader had been made to feel very fond of, were suddenly emotionlessly killed off; Ballyhara, a town Scarlett had slogged her guts out to build, was destroyed; Rhett meets his precious daughter with hardly any reaction at all; Rhett and Scarlett fall rather quickly into each other arms (what an anti climax) as his wife has rather conviently been killed off and the three of them seem rather happy to be homeless - what about Scarlett's beloved Tara - there is no way she'd give it up so easily! I loved all the Irish stuff in this novel, it was good to see Scarlett finding some family roots and a home in Ireland. I found all the English stuff extremely tedious - I didn't think it was necessary for Scarlett to be introduced into English high society at all. I would've liked to have heard a bit more about Ashley and his life and that of Scarlett's two children - Wade and Ella - I don't think she would've of given them up so easily. I'm afraid this novel, while overall a good effort, just does not compare to GWTW.
Rating: Summary: AWFUL! Review: HAD RIPLEY WRITTEN THE BOOK USING HER OWN WORDS AND IDEAS, ASSUMING SHE HAD ANY, AND KEPT THE FLAVOR OF THE ORIGINAL CHARACTERS, IT MAY HAVE BEEN A BOOK WORTH READING. INSTEAD, SHE PARPHRASED MARGARET MITCHELL THROUGHOUT THE STORY TO THE POINT OF CHARACTER ASSASINATION. HAVING READ AND REREAD, ETC. THE MITCHELL BOOK APPROXIMATELY 15 TIMES OVER THE PAST 30 YEARS, I THINK I CAN SAY I KNOW THE ORIGINAL CHARACTERS WELL. RIPLEY DID THEM ALL A TERRIBLE INJUSTICE. THIS WAS ONE OF THE TOP 5 WORST BOOKS I HAVE EVER READ. WELL ENOUGH SHOULD HAVE BEEN LEFT ALONE.
Rating: Summary: Never read the book, but ..., Review: Hi, This isn't really a review for the book seeing as I have never read Scarlett the sequel, I have just resently found out about the continution of GNTW and I was so HAPPY ! my friend told me about it yesterday, I wished that Rhett would get together with Scarlett excually people might hate me for saying this but the way Mrs.Mitchell wrote gone with the wind was very long and time consumming, she didn't need to write down all those adjectives now did she? I was reading it outloud to my grandmother and she thought that it was very long winded, Did mitchell get payed by the word or something? Sure looks like it, I DID enjoy the book and the movie to go and look for a sequel though and NOW I can't wait to get my hands on it, I even found some Jane Austen sequels that I'm lookin' forward to reading, I was very startled at the end of the book when Rhett gave up on her I kinda felt sorry for the guy but she was a ROYAL B*I*T*C*H sorry about that, all she cared about was money and Ashyly and then when she found out that she really did care about Rhett and had for a very long time it was ironic, I heard that they are making a sequel sometime forgot were I heard it but they are making a movie sequel to GNWTW and this is probebly the book they are bassing it on, By the way I am 15 years old, bye
Rating: Summary: i really love this book!!!!! Review: I loved this book i have read it at least 7 times i have also read GWTW 7 times. The only problem was i didn't like the way it leaves you hanging at the end. i plan to make up my own continuation to scarlett so i won't have to wait for someone else to do it and so i can make things turn out the way i want them to
Rating: Summary: it was a great book Review: i can't believe what i just read, why do you think the book is so bad?the rieveiws(at least the ones that i read)were all critisizeing it.the reson it's differnt from the first one is that it would be boreing if it were so similar to the original.thats what makes books interesting, they'r different from each other.i for one think it's a great book .and if you disagree with me...well everyones entiteled to thier own opinion.but i still think it was a great book.the olny problem was ,it left me hanging, now i want to read the continuation to the continuation.
Rating: Summary: Great Review: Just becouse the mini-series was horrible doesn't mean the book is bad! This book is not written in the style of Margaret Mitchell but is still very good. While I think Scarlett would have chased Rhett in "Scarlett" as she chased Ashley in "gwtw" it is still a very good book. I disagree with people that say you shouldn't read it, I couldn't put it down. As for the people that say it was out of charector for Scarlett to make good choices in her life and not be self-destructive I think it was a wonderful plot change the people who don't agree with that must be very self-destructive themselves to have that frame of mind. I also think the ending to gwtw is very sad and leaves me feeling upset when i finish it but then i think of the wonderful ending to the book Scarlett and i feel much better. I definently recamend reading it.
Rating: Summary: Nothing compared to GWTW Review: I looked forward to reading "Scarlett", but I was very dissapointed. Sure, if someone had read "Scarlett" before GWTW, they probably would have liked it, but it's not a good book to follow GWTW. In GWTW, Scarlett is a tomboy at heart, and wasn't beautiful. In Scarlett, she is some dashing beauty who enjoys being a lady, then later in the book, she goes to dressing and acting like a commoner in Ireland, then she goes BACK to being a lady in England. It just doesn't add up. And Scarlett also goes back to being a lovesick kid, unlike the stong figure that we see at the end of GWTW. And Scarlett would never buy land in Ireland and just leave Tara to Suellen. And, though she isn't the best mother in the world, she wouldn't leave Will and Ella at Tara for years. Even if she would, Suellen wouldn't have kept them. The ending was also very weak, unlike the beautiful ending of GWTW. I think that the only person who could write a book that lives up to GWTW is Ms. Michell. Ms. Ripley shouldn't have tried it. Don't waste your time on this book. If you want to see a resolution, write one yourself. It couldn't be worse than "Scarlett"!
Rating: Summary: IT"S REALLY NOT THAT BAD Review: Although Ripley forms a sequel to GWTW that has a very dull plot and not very well written doesn't mean it only deserves one star! I chose to give Ripley 3 stars worth of credit for finally writting a sequel to the classic novel. She also did a good job to be sure to give it a happy ending. Margarett Mitchell would have been pleased.
