Rating: Summary: Nice beach read Review: A nice novel to take to the beach. The author tried to bring the book up a notch by describing clothing and surroundings in a way meant to bring the reader in. However, her descriptions left much to be desired and never conjured up any images for me..except when I was trying to picture what she was talking about and couldn't.
Rating: Summary: Quick and Lovely Story Review: Albeit quick and predictable, I thought this was a lovely book. The best compliment I can give it has nothing to do with the style or wit of the author but to the fact that I actually felt a little less cynical about love by the end of the book - now that's a feat!I recommend it if you're looking for a lighthearded read that combines love, humor, family, lust and great descriptions of fashion.
Rating: Summary: Tugs you right in! Review: At times you love Diana, at times you get angry at her, alot of the times she frustrates the heck out of you but you'll come away envying her ability to lead life the way she finds it most comfortable. She pursues her own happiness not happiness as it is determined to be best by her family and the rest of society. I read this story with lightening speed. While there were times when the descriptives were way beyond what I was looking for at the moment I was genuinely interested in Diana. Cupid counts too, although my attraction to him related only to his involvement with Diana. Other than that I wasn't concerned about him. I guess by the end I felt that Diana was a close personal friend of mine. This would be a great weekend read curled up with a cup of hot chocolate or soothing tea in front of the fireplace.
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable easy read Review: Cupid & Diana is definately a story for women. An enjoyable story about love and family relationships that doesn't get sappy/gushy. Short easy read that gets better with each chapter. Any woman raised by or around Catholic families (especially Italian) will definately identify with the family/relationship dynamics. The book is full of good laughs and had me reminiscing about my own past and present relationships. I enjoyed the local references and also liked the strength and diversity of the women characters and the sensible perspective they provided on some unpleasant life circumstances.
Rating: Summary: Cupid and Diana Review: Cupid and Diana by Christina Bartolomeo was a fast fun read. It is about Diana, a lapsed Catholic middle child who is trying to carve out a niche of her own. She has recently quit a secure job to open a consignment shop, found lust with a man other than her fiancé and maybe love and is in the process cutting some painful family habits. It was a fun read with engaging, likeable characters and a great love story. I can definitely recommend this as a relaxing Sunday read. It is worth the price as a trade size paperback but not necessarily in hardcover.
Rating: Summary: Loved It! Review: CUPID AND DIANA is a delightfully charming, laugh out loud story of the search for true love that reads like the best of the big screen romantic comedies of the 1940's. It is one of the most enjoyable books I've read this year.
Rating: Summary: An eclectic, stylish, light read Review: Cupid and Diana is an enjoyable read. I found its quick narrative infused with some great descriptive women's apparel to be delightful for a fun read . . . if you are a fan of fashion or had a Catholic upbringing - you'll definitely enjoy this story.
Rating: Summary: A Sweet if Somewhat Vapid Read Review: Diana Campanella is in her 30s when she realizes that her shop is floudering, as is her less-than-passionate relationship with her finace Philip. Throughout the course of Cupid and Diana, we are introduced to Diana's love-hate relationship with her large Catholic family, and follow along as her life changes upon meeting Harry Sandburg, a recently separated lawyer who has just moved to D.C. The novel is predictable in all aspects, but an easy read. Bartolomeo makes some interesting observations about life that make the book shine every now and then, but as whole, it's largely forgettable. A comfortable look at a life of a woman who manages to shake the cloak of inertia off of herself, something that, as we all know, is harder and harder to do as the years pass.
Rating: Summary: Boring! Review: Don't waste your time. You don't even like the main character, which DEFINITELY decreases your chances of liking the book. She will spend an entire paragraph describing the lace on someone's dress. I wish I could say that I finished it, but it was too painfully boring.
Rating: Summary: Competently written, but irritating as hell. Review: God, am I sorry I bought this one in hardback. I won't give away one of the major plot twists, but I will say that if the protagonist's love interest did to me what he does to her, he'd be eating his meals through a tube for some time to come. What are we supposed to think of her choice? That she's an idiot? How am I supposed to feel as a reader, after I've wasted valuable time and good money on this idiot? Like ... an idiot, I guess.
