Rating: Summary: Fantastic! Congress obviously had no clue.... Review: ... what they were doing when they canceled the Apollo missions. This book is an incredible visual accounting of our lunar neighbor, a place upon which billions have gazed but no one had stood until Neil and Buzz made footfalls 30 years ago. It is so sad that our nation with all its power, ambition, and know-how, decided to scrap additional missions to the moon in favor of a go-nowhere shuttle program that generates about as much inspiration as a trip to the grocery store. Just think how far we would be in science and 'human expansion' into outer space if we would have incrementally built upon the Apollo missions with additional visits. Instead, we have Congress to thank for a rudderless and uninspiring 30 years of orbiting earth over and over and over and over. This book brings back those feelings of great accomplishment and human endeavor.
Rating: Summary: The greatest picture book ever created! Review: Michael Light is nothing short of a master! And he left _all_ the captions off. Yes!
Rating: Summary: A must for everyone who has ever wanted to be an astronaut Review: "Full Moon" is beautifully laid out. Each picture stands alone on its own page. The matte black page, which stands opposite of each photo, sets the pictures in their own magnificent light. This book is a must for every space-lovers coffee table. I would love to see a book like this on photos from Mars.
Rating: Summary: Magnifique ! Review: I was born the year mankind first landed on the moon and although I was too young to share the excitment of living it live, I always have been attracted to what will certainly remain as the biggest adventure of this ending century. This is probably as close as you will ever get from it. The photographs are breath-taking. A MUST Have...
Rating: Summary: Can't do better than "wow!" Review: No other book presents such a majestic view of a faraway place. If you like photography or space travel or both, buy this book. The astronauts who took these photos were pilots who received photography training for their missions, and the majority of these photos were made purely for scientific documentation. Yet the result is an artistic collection. A correction is necessary. This book is often described as produced from scans from the original Apollo mission film used in space and on the moon. Nope. They are in fact scans of the first generation duplications of the film, made right here on Earth.
Rating: Summary: a must-have for space buffs Review: an unbelievable visual record of the apollo missions. makes you sad that we have not gone back since 1972. a beautiful photo essay for the coffee table.
Rating: Summary: Incredible - worth every penny Review: I bought this book as a gift for my father but after I found myself reading through it twice I got a second copy for myself. It continues to give me such pleasure. The next best thing to flying to the moon oneself.
Rating: Summary: Return to the moon Review: Through one source or another I've previously seen every picture in this book... but only here have I truly seen the majesty of the images. The detail is incredible and finally gives justice to the greatest adventure of our time. Truly a grand edition for the 30th anniversary of the first moon landing. Worth every penny.
Rating: Summary: Breathtaking Review: This is the rare sort of book that sends chills down the spine at nearly every turn of a page. The double gatefolds -- nearly 60 inches of awe-inspiring lunar landscapes -- are alone worth the price of the book. This book is an achievement which does justice to the people who made the Apollo missions to the moon and back happen.
Rating: Summary: an amazing, awesome, beautiful trip Review: This luscious visual trip to the moon is also an existential journey. As you contemplate the beauty, the light, the distance, the color, the humanity of these never-before-seen images you must ask larger questions about humans' place in the universe. Light's use of text at the end of the book situates these photographs within his personal history and an even broader one of travel to the moon; however, it is just as enjoyable of a 'reading' experience to take the purely visual ride. You will be impressed by the story Light tells; you will be moved by the beauty of what you see; you will be energized by the book's simple, clear, and elegant format.
