Rating: Summary: A BOOK WITHOUT EQUAL Review: Working with fish and game in Alaska,I find it refreshing in this day and age to view a work like Shooting Bears that portrays true photographic mastery: instead of being full of game farms, zoos and computer-enhanced photos. At one glance I was enthralled with the perfection of Pezzenti's work in this truly unique book of bears.Never before have I seen more compelling photos of grizzly bears at night, or more profound images of polar bears. In several of the polar bear shots Pezzenti actually catches the glow of the sun setting on their teeth; unbelievable! There are no finer shots or more professional images of black bears and cubs to be found in the world today. The shots of brown bears still remain planted in my mindseye as I have never before seen such clarity in a nature photographer's work -- let alone with bears. The shots in this book are very gripping and compelling. After reading the review on Shooting Bears in Shutterbug, I dropped everything and bought a copy. They called him one of the best there is; but this falls short because his photography is indescribable and obviously born of love. If his photowork doesn't make him top in the business (and it does), then his writing more than places him there. If you desire a wilderness book full of photos that transcends anyone's work you've ever seen, this is it; but also get ready for a narrative that captures your attention completely. John Pezzenti is a true wilderness artist--in both picture and word. I loved this book immensely; it is groundbreaking work without equal.
