Rating:  Summary: Profound scholarship Review: This book penetrates far deeper than I had expected. It is really a theory of all life forms but has been applied to the differences among human races. Prof. Rushton takes the sociobiological r-K theory of reproductive strategies which might be applied to different primate species or to breeds of dogs and applies it to the well documented differences among Blacks, Whites, and Yellows (so to speak) and comes up with a remarkable synthesis. The Yellows have larger brains and take longer to grow to full adulthood (because it takes longer to build a bigger brain). Blacks mature fastest. Whites fall intermediate, but very close to Yellows. Same pattern with two-egg twinning -- Blacks have the most (16 per 1,000 births), Whites the next most (8 per 1,000 births), and Yellows the fewest (4 per 1,000 births). Thus the human races are biologically distinct, having evolved at different times -- Blacks first, in Africa, then Whites, then Yellows. It all fits together. It is profoundly meaningful. If you read this book you may never look at the world the same way again.
Rating:  Summary: The #1 book on race differences Review: In this astonishing book, Philippe Rushton candidly explores what is probably the single greatest taboo of our times: genetically-based race differences. Rushton reveals the hard facts about the things that most people only talk about in private: the group differences among blacks (negroids), whites (caucasoids) and Asians (mongoloids) in physiological traits, intelligence and crime. Some of the facts discussed are the following: of the three major races, blacks around the world - are the fastest to mature physically; - have the highest rates of bone and tooth development; - begin to sit, crawl and walk the earliest; - have the earliest puberty and sexual development; - have the highest levels of testosterone; - are the most sexually active whether measured by the age of first intercourse, intercourse frequency or number of sex partners; - have the highest rates of twinning; - have the highest levels of AIDS and HIV; - have the smallest brains, the lowest IQs and educational attainment; - have the highest rates of crime, including fraud, forgery, counterfeiting, assault, robbery and murder; - are the most aggressive and mentally unstable; - have the highest rates of drug and alcohol abuse; - have the highest rates of divorce, out-of-wedlock children, child abuse and delinquency; - have the highest rates of unemployment, the highest rates of welfare dependency and the lowest incomes; - have the most diseases, the highest rates of death at every age and the shortest life expectancy. Asians fall at the opposite extreme on each of these characteristics, and whites fall in the middle, often close to Asians. Finally, Rushton discusses his "life history" and "out of Africa" theories about the origins of these genetically-based race differences. This book is easily the best and most comprehensive study of race differences done in our times. I greatly admire Rushton for his empirical research on race. It is likely that he would have received a Nobel prize for his work if he were writing at a different time.
Rating:  Summary: Superb and brilliant Review: A masterwork. The unabridged version is the most important book in the field, flush with references, and may well be the most important book you have never read: Political correctness keeps the book off college reading lists.
Rating:  Summary: Impossible to refute Review: Rushton's thesis is this: intelligence is unevenly distributed among the three major racial groups, Mongoloid/Oriental, Caucasoid, African, with the former having a mean IQ of 106, Caucasoids with an IQ of 100, and Africans with 85. Approximately 100,000 years ago peoples left the hot climate of Africa for the colder and challenging climates of Europe and Asia. The result is that natural selection chose larger brains, lower aggression, lower reproductive rates, and more intense parental care of the young in Europe and Asia. In Africa, the reproductive strategy was to produce more children. This state of affairs explains why African tribes still had not invented the wheel, compass, written languages even into the 1800s. It also explains why African nations remain a disaster of disease, crime, corruption, weak infrastructures and vast academic and scientific failure/nonachievement. In order for a society to be technologically advanced you need a critical mass (At least 10%) of people with IQs over 120 (the lowest IQ expected of CEOs and scientists). This is lacking in Africa. A good theory will explain all the known facts and Rushton has accumulated plenty of them. Page after page of research builds his case to the inevitable conclusion. People of African descent are in a desperate situation. And the liberal idea that "all men are created equal" is nothing but a fantasy. It is clear that Orientals have the greatest intelligence and that Caucasians follow closely. IQs below 90 are insufficient to keep up with the demands of the information age. And you can only blame nature and not the schools, society, slavery, etc. Even if we had perfect schools the result would be the same.
Rating:  Summary: Excellent Abridgement of Race, Evolution, and Behavior Review: This book is an excellent shortened version of the unabridged Race, Evolution, and Behavior. Rushton outlines his theory that the three races differ on over sixty traits along an r-K reproductive strategy continuum and explains why the differences exist using an evolutionary framework. Furthermore, the book has a dozen very helpful illustrative charts -- sometimes a picture really is worth a thousand words (or several pages of the unabridged edition). There is also an excellent question and answer chapter at the end that deals with some sensitive issues. Finally, at the end of each chapter is a small list of things to read for more information, which can be especially helpful for students. I highly recommend the abridged edition for anyone wanting to know the truth about race.
Rating:  Summary: a sad attempt to justify bias with uncorroborated science Review: Rushton presents several theories that are well corroborated by the lack of evidence that he presents in his texts. Unfortunately he relies primarily on IQ testing and anecdotal experience, and unfortunately biologically poor understanding of evolutionary biology and science. The text is like almost all others with a comprehensive agenda: it is based on just enough science to fool someone with little or poor formal training in evolutionary history, or to pull those who already are predisposed to the author's position to Rushton's side. Unfortunately Rushton's book does just this; it is poised to be yet another thesis that attempts to give scientific validation to the all to modern practices of racism and ethnic bias. Rushton's theories, while compelling if read without further research, can be dispelled by addtional reading on almost all of his topics, and have been refuted in both previous and more current texts and editions; even the amendments between his previous and most recent editions show that he is adjusting his text to fit the lack of fact that it was based on in the first place. Unfortunately this lack of true evidence and his presentation of only information that correlates his suppositions and an extreme lack of scientific method and information that could even possibly run contrary to his position(and additionally referenced by other prominent biological and ethnic studies) make this book just that, a long, biased, op-ed that seeks to join the ranks of the racist and biased shrouded in the veil of bad and at worst, false and inethical scientific practice.
Rating:  Summary: Testosterone & Intellectual Performance: Review: After a few glances inside of this book, one great question emerges: why are East Asians so consistently opposite the Negroids in all traits, with Caucasoids always occupying the middle-ground? I think that these differences are the result of testosterone differences within the three races. Blacks=High Crime, High Testosterone, Low I.Q.; Whites=Medium Crime rate, Medium Testosterone level, Medium/highIQ; East Asians=Low Crime, Low Testosterone, Highest I.Q. The relationship of testosterone to cultural advancement, I.Q. seems to be an inverse one: those having the lowest T on the top of the societal order ; those with the highest T lowest in social rank. The feminists have been RIGHT all along! It is testosterone that is holding all culture back! Low world testosterone levels would probably mean a BIG boost in intelligence & a HUGE dip in crime.
Rating:  Summary: Facts Not Theory Review: Critics must remember: IQ tests are a widely recognized, and scientifically designed, tool for measuring intelligence. Anyone who gives the same IQ test repeatedly to the same subject is misusing the test, and is bound to receive skewed results. So, any reasonably trained psychologist will vary the tests, so as to get a more reliable set of data on the subject. Homework Assignment: research how *scientific* intelligence tests are designed and given, so as to understand what is being done and why. Most importantly, this book is not intended to be a history or sociology book. It deals with psychological testing and understanding of the human brain, rather than focusing on crackpot history revisionism. The "kings and queens" of Egypt (actually, they had Pharaohs, a male title - they had no title for queen, which is why to show her royalty, Hatshepsut was shown with a beard) were not Black-Africans, until Egypt was conquered by the Nubians, who began the 25th Dynasty (712-657 BC) in the Later Period. This is a fascinating and highly informative study that cannot be simply buried under wishful thinking and bullheaded political correctness. Read this book to see the facts that the left does not want you to see.
Rating:  Summary: Forbidden truths Review: Read this book if you dare and learn about the forbidden and taboo subject of racial differences. A fascinating book that almost anyone can read, and Rushton is a very good writer.
Rating:  Summary: Theory Not Fact Review: Rushton and readers of his book must remember: IQ tests are not a true gauge of intellience. Scores will improve as test takers become more familiar with items on the test. Do not confuse the fact that one group scores higher because of familiarity with test codes (including the language through which the tests is given) with intelligence. Nor is intelligence simply how much and how well one memorizes and regurgitates infomation. Not understanding authentic intelligence is the reason Americans, both whites and blacks, lag behind other nations in education. Homework Assignment: research what true intelligence consists of and understand why intelligence tests are a sham. Rushton also lacks knowledge and infomation about African contributions to civilization. Africans were in fact operating advanced civilizations milleniums ago while whites lived in caves. White cavemen slept under their own feces to keep warm while Black kings and queens ruled in Egypt and other African territories, operated universities, engaged in iron and gold refining, etc. etc. Too bad American and the Western world have kept truths about Africa & the African people from the masses causing white children to grow up falsely believing they are superior to blacks. Rushton grew up with such beliefs.
