Rating: Summary: Fantastic, enlightening!!! Review: This books makes me really understand reality. I recommend it wholeheartily to anyone who accepts the scientific truth of evolution. Rating: Summary: a Brilliant Book by a Brave Man Review: Rushton's Race, Evolution, and Behavior is one of the finest books I have read. He documents the race differences clearly and with many citations that lend to credibility. Furthermore, he provides a beautiful theory on why the races differ that doesn't ignore human evolution, but embraces it. Rushton's book is the only one that I have read that not only documents race differences, but explains why the differences exist even when people have tried to ignore them and/or eliminate them.
Rating: Summary: Why don't people just accept racial differences? Review: Rushton is a brave man, by setting out the facts about racial differences he has removed one of the left's most potent weapons "GUILT". Get this book and give it to your friends. The future of the Western world is at stake. If we don't cut all this multiculturalism we will be eclipsed in the next century by the Chinese who, to their credit, don't accept all this "diversity" nonsense.
Rating: Summary: Genetics is more than intuition Review: The wonderful reviews of this book I found here are perhaps evidence that we should take all such offerings at Amazon with a boulder of salt. At the risk of being labelled a braying pc-er, let me ask you to THINK BEFORE YOU LEAP into bed with Rushton's perception of human variation. His logic is, in brief...1. Human groups differ in some traits (e.g. crime & sex), 2. Human groups differ in some genes (e.g. those affecting skin color), therefore , 1 is because of 2. This logic is neither "obvious" nor "brave" nor "anti-pc"...it's just flawed at the core. Rushton's been rejected by most evolutionary ecologists not because he is a seeker of hard truths that shatter pc illusions, but because he uses blizzards of often irrelevant numbers and paper thin or incorrect logic to make arguments that automatically resonate with many folks regardless of their knowledge of the science involved(see other reviews here). How brave.
Rating: Summary: Rushton celebrates real "diversity" Review: The p.c. crowd brays about the importance of acknowledging the difference between peoples but when shown one they turnaround in a nice bit of Orwellian "doublethink" and deny the difference if it doesn't advance their social agenda. This book will cause that crowd to hit the roof. They will accuse Rushton of "sterotyping" (as if statistical measurement is a bad thing!)and "deplore" his findings. Of course, deploring is a normative exercise, not an empirical one, so such objections to this work are irrevelant. If the p.c. crowd wants to find data that obviate Rushton's conclusions they should get to work. But then again if they were successful in proving Rushton wrong there would not be any "differences" for them to celebrate!
Rating: Summary: A brilliant and devastating work Review: This well researched meticulously argued masterpiece should be compulsory reading at school. It explodes many fashionable politically correct myths and provides a sound basis for understanding a vital part of our humanity.
Rating: Summary: courage and genius in one package Review: Having read the book from cover to cover, I couldn't help but be impressed by the author's love for the truth - dispite the inevitable wrath of the lovers of ignorance. Though he proves his point beyond a shadow of a doubt, he deals fairly with those few studies which don't support his views. If only society at large could see as clearly as this author. Way to go, Rushton!
Rating: Summary: Ruston's Rule: African --> European --> East Asian Review: One of the most obvious features of multiethnic society in North America today is that on a host of dimensions, both physical and behavioral, people of black African descent and people of East Asian descent tend to fall at opposite ends of the spectrum, with whites tending to occupy the mediocre middle. This is clearly evident in sports, muscularity, crime, popular entertainment, technology, even interracial marriage, where 72% of black-white marriages are black husband-white wife, while 72% of white-Asian marriages are white husband-Asian wife (1990 Census). Even though many people have noticed this pattern, Rushton deserves a huge amount of credit for putting it in print. Sadly, we live in an era whose motto seems to be "Remain oblivious to the obvious". Rushton has had to endure Orwellian persecutions for his contribution to scholarship.
Rating: Summary: Well-researched and written Review: An exploration of racial differences, the book explores physical, intellectual, and sociological racial differences. The presentation and information is straight-forward and enlightening. Although, the material presented is moderately statistical and primarily social science oriented, the issues explored are inflammatory. Rushtom firmly squelches most critiques of hereditarian racial differences.
Rating: Summary: Landmark Science. Seeking Truth Wherever it Leads. Review: "Know the Truth, the Truth will set you Free". The Truth is not pretty nor what we hope, wish or expect. I had many skepticism for Professor Rushton's ideas and book. How can any of if be true. This is too general. No scientific data can back any of this up on race and behavior. However, before commenting on the book, one should read the book from cover to cover, as I did. Professor Rushton is not a "polemnic" "commentator" but a "scientist" Scientist debate from facts, data and evidence. Needless to say, this book has lots of data. It is not written in flowery commentary, but in dry academic prose and lots of footnotes. Professor Rushton reviews the history, empirical data, and experts from both side of the debate. Needless to say, Professor is a thorough and meticulous scholar. All arguments are supported by footnotes and reference to expert authority. After reading the book, I am still skeptical. However, it's ignorance to say it completely environmental or genetic. The answer is probably 50-50, 60-40, or 75-25 between genes and evironment. As for any scholarly debate, what is needed is addtional research and data gathering. More scientist need to do basic research so more data will come out for analysis. Can one book determine the answer to the genes-environment debate. Probably not, but Professor Rushton does a thorough and scholarly job for his point of view. Needless to say, it is Landmark science and will color all future research and debate on nature-nurture. Professor Rushton has the last word for now.
