Rating: Summary: Megaladon: Hunting the Hunter, Outstanding Reference Book! Review: Mark Renz has written an outstanding reference book,"Megaladon: Hunting the Hunter" by capturing the essence of a monster beast, a denizen of the deep, the mighty Megaladon shark! As an amateur fossil hunter, the quest to find large shark's teeth is always there and always elusive, albeit I did find a three inch megaladon tooth in a cement quarry in Harleyville, South Carolina just a few days ago. "Megaladon: Hunting the Hunter" reinforces that "quest" of trying to understand just what this huge shark was all about. His well written book is chalked with beautiful illustrations that reinforce the easy to read text. In fact, Mark's writing style is quite humerous as he captures your imagination always wondering what might have led to the demise of this huge creature, or better yet, could this creature still be lurking in the depths of our present day oceans? More importantly I believe, the author maintains a creditable scientific explanation of previous extinct shark species which led to the evolution of Megaladon. In fact, I pulled out my shark's teeth collection and compared them to the outstanding illustrations. In sum, I strongly recommend this great book to all amateur and even professional enthusiasts. This well written, wonderfully illustrated book is a must for expanding one's library.

Rating: Summary: Outstanding Fossil Book!! Review: Outstanding book!! For everyone who has asked why a book on the mighty Carcharocles megalodon hasn't been written, author Mark Renz presents this outstanding book. It covers anything and everything about MEG and is written in a light-hearted (but still scientifically sound) style. Mark Renz consulted with most of the top experts in the field while researching this one and came up with a very thorough book covering all the essentials (where and how to find teeth, what they looked like, size, shape, diet, extinction, etc.). This book also contains a lot of great artwork and a ton of detailed photos (there is even a color section in the middle that shows some world-class fossil specimens). A lot of work by a lot of people went into this book and the quality shows. This is an absolute MUST HAVE book for any MEG enthusiast or fossil collector.
Rating: Summary: Definitive Work... Review: Renz has done it again. This book will instantly become the definitive work on "Megs" and their teeth for amateur collectors. In MEGALODON, the nearly complete story of Meg is revealed. The rise and fall of Meg, its closest ancestors and living relatives, over 50 collection sites, and how Meg measured up to other "baddies" like T-Rex, are all covered by Renz. Even the wild idea of Meg still lurking around today in the deep trenches of the Pacific Ocean is addressed. Megalodon is loaded with 390 beautiful photographs, many in color, original paleo-artwork by Walter Hunt, Marisa Renz, Dan Varner, Kyle Kirby, Todd Marshall and Rob Sula. The pictures and illustrations are top quality and printed on gloss paper for extreme clarity. Included in the book is a 27-page color gallery of Meg teeth and related specimens. Once again, top quality and extremely clear. Renz's text is very comprehensible for the amateur, easy to follow, fun to read, and most of all accurate. The author took the time and effort to contact many of the leading professional and amateur Meg specialists. This makes for a text that you can trust. (Many amateurs shortcut this step and misinformation abounds.) Megalodon: Hunting the Hunter will contain something you didn't know about Meg, no matter how well read you think you are on the subject. The book contains poems, stories, short biographies of famous Meg hunters and researchers, resource listings of books, publications, fossil clubs, web sites, movies/videos, and museums all related to Meg. There is also a fairly comprehensive glossary on terms related to Megs, and an afterword dealing with the ethical dilemma of why we should protect sharks today. Truly this book covers it all if you are interested in Meg.
Rating: Summary: Only for tooth collectors! Review: The illustrations are very poor and the text is basic to say the least. Book looks like it was put together in a "home-press". Not the book for a serious biology student or ichthyologist.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful information Review: This is one of the best books I have ever seen on the megalodon. The information in this book is impressive. Everything you would ever want to know about this giant creature and much, much more. Wonderful photographs and easy-to-understand text. ALL subjects are covered on this mind-boggling shark and its massive teeth.
Rating: Summary: "poorest book in paleo history!!!!!!!!" Review: This was a poor book that seemed like it was not even useful. The book was not that informational, only in a few parts.I do not reccomend this book to anybody!
Rating: Summary: a great megalobook Review: THis was one of the best books about the legendary giant shark megalodon and I am a huge fan of this giant primal-great white shark like beast that once dominated the earth millions of years ago and this book can convince somebody that this shark may still be alive today. I have the other following novels besides this book. EXTINCT, MEGALODON(robin brown) MEG and the TRENCH(by Steve Alten) and I have this one other book called CREATURE By PETER BENCHLEY I'm not sure if there's a meg in the story but I will find out. Anyways I hope that there are more megalodon books to come out in the future I would look really forward to colleting all megalodon books.
