Rating: Summary: This has got to be among the BEST literature! Review: I'm 13, and I read these books a few years ago and LOVED them! Frodo Baggins, a peaceful hobbit, is chosen to carry the dreaded One Ring to the very depths of Mordor to destroy it! Accompanying him is his hired hand, Sam. Of course, others come to protect the ring-bearer. Gandalf, the wizard; Aragorn, the ranger; Boromir, a steward of Gondor; Legolas, a wood-elf; Gimli son of Gloin, the dwarf; and Frodo's cousins, Merry Brandybuck and Pippin Took. Oh, no, the story's not over with The Hobbit. Questions are asked and answered in these books. What will happen to Frodo and Sam? Will they complete the task that is given them? What about Gollum? Is he still around? Saruman, the evil wizard, lusts for the Ring. Will he be able to take it from two helpless hobbits? While these questions are asked and answered, chaos has taken Edoras, Gondor,--and even the Shire, Frodo's peaceful homeland! This is an AMAZING trilogy. Five stars? I'd give it five thousand!!
Rating: Summary: The greatest fantasy epic ever Review: The best books I ever read. Tolkien made his own languages, races, and history. Tolkien takes the battle between good and evil to a whole new level. This story will be considered the best fantasy epic for generations to come.
Rating: Summary: Overrated! Review: This is quite simply the most boring, overrated series of books I've ever seen. Classic situations and characters, but incredibly dull writing. Oh, well, different strokes...
Rating: Summary: next to the Bible, the very best Review: How can anyone not love this series? I am 15 and this is my third time through reading it. I have read from countless other series I enjoy such as Weis & Hickman's Deathgate novels, but they all fall flat and cold compared to this work of art. Fifty years from now, people will still be reading Tolkien, with its imagination and characters that you begin to feel are with you, and I can promise you these contemporary authors won't be given a second thought. By the way, Tolkien has already been around over fifty years. In this world, that's an accomplishment.
Rating: Summary: This book ROCKS! Review: I started reading The Hobbit as a required book in my reading class, and I loved it so much, I bought the whole set! I bought each book separately, so I have 4 books. I'm in the middle of The Return Of The King, and it is really cool. Gandalf and Aragorn are the 2 coolest characters I have ever read about.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: This is probably the greatest fantasy book I've ever read, without exception. The only possible critisms are, it's too short and it's view of woman (But that is understandable due to the period it was written in)
Rating: Summary: The best book I ever read ! Review: Surely this is the greatest fantasy book ever written. Tolkien describes the War between Sauron and the Free Peoples of Middle-Earth in such a way that the reader always feels that he is the character himself, struggling to survive or performing valiant deeds in the defense of Men, Elves and Dwarves. We can almost feel the atmosphere around the characters, the danger lurking at every corner of the way, the dark and evil shadow always following the heroes, silently and watchfully. The adventure never ends and there is no stop to breathe or rest after each fight or escape. It is not only WHAT is written, but it is HOW is written. We can feel it, we can taste it, we can ever see it all. And in the end, all we can say is: how I wish I could be there.
Rating: Summary: Without a doubt the best books ever Review: In the trilogy the Lord of the Rings JRR Tolkien brings the wonderful world of Middle Earth to life. Following Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippen through there adventures was the most enjoyable reading experince of my life. In 6th grade I read the Hobbit and The LOTR. Since then (3 year time) I must have read the books at least 100 times each. Honstly if you love fantisy you must read J.R.R Tolkens The Lord of the Rings.
Rating: Summary: Tolkien not only masterminded a great story, but a World! Review: After years of searching, I finally have found the perfect fantasy. As you read you can picture both the landscape and the characters as the author's voice narrates the story in a smooth and magical way. These stories should be able to be rated higher than 5 stars.
Rating: Summary: Beatiful, well wrote, intelligent, amazing Review: I thought I had found the best author in the world but I was wrong. J.R.R. Tolkien is such an amazing writer and story teller. These books take me to a world beyond silly everyday life. You have not even been born to real reading if you have not read these wonderful, wonderful books. Life and death, Hobbits and Men, Wizards and Elves, Dwarfs and Ents. Books that you would have to forget everthing to forget. The light and the dark, the good and the bad. One my favorite things about the Lord of the Rings is the poem in the front of all three books: Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky, Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone, Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die, One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie. One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to in the darkness bind them, In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
