Rating: Summary: OK, OK.. so its a slow start... Review: But don't let it get you down.. You've just embarked on one of the most epic adventures of your life, in this case, David Eddings' Belgariad novels. I hoope you like the story, because you'll read it again in the Mallorean saga, and get many tinges of it in Belgarath the Sorcerer, and Polgara the Sorceress. But hey, who's counting..? All in all, a wonderful story, ideal for a first time SF/Fantasy reader. One of my favorites.
Rating: Summary: eh, ok Review: The Belgariad was an awesome series but the first book was at the border line of terrible. It did get very good at the end. Another thing I am dissapointed at is Eddings' vocab. It is 8th grade vocab. He could write a little more advanced. The Mallorean was even better.
Rating: Summary: You haven't read it yet? Review: Eddings is a brilliant author, and in this book he catapults the reader in to a world full of magic, romance, adventure, intrigue, swordfights and more. A perfect beginning to an epic series.
Rating: Summary: great book Review: i loved this book because of many things first it was my first introduction to david eddings and second it was a mystery in many ways and always made me think it also at the end want to read more about garion aunt pol durnik and belgarath
Rating: Summary: EDDINGS RULES !!!!!!!!! Review: This is by far the best fantasy series ever written. Read it or die !!!!!
Rating: Summary: Great involving fantasy-book with a great fantasy-spirit Review: When I was about ten years old I first saw "The Queen of Sorcery" and I got stuck with the Eddings-books. I'm still trying to read all his titles before he releases another book, wich isn't that easy. Anyhow I'm still impresed by David Eddings big, manysided world, with all the different, complicated characters. It makes you wonder how he separates them all... Sure does other authors got own worlds and complicated characters but are they realy as manysided as Eddings? ...Or mayby Eddings by himself? So if you havn't read David Eddings books yet I think you should start now, on this one, or at one of the next. Enjoy.
Rating: Summary: The Belgariad and the Malloreon: Original Epic Fantasy Review: I grow ever so weary of comparisons between Tolkien and [place fantasy author's name here]. In the case of Eddings, the comparison is both unfair and inacurrate. Tolkien wrote of a magical, romantic world, the magic of which lies in the fantastic creatures contained therein. Eddings's world owes its magic not to the chimeraes or dragons which inhabit its shores, but to the wonderful cast of characters with which Eddings chose to populate it. These are people about whom we give a darn! Within the pages of the Belgariad and the Malloreon, the actions of the characters elicit laughter and anger. Within these pages I have found aspects of myself. . .and definately my wife! (See "Ce'Nedra" to know what I am talking about!) Eddings and Tolkien approached fantastic fiction from totally different angles. Eddings told tales of heroic sword and sorcery, with humor, action, and emotion as the main ingredients. Tolkien (who, in my mind will always be the master) wove tales of wonder and epic struggle . . .struggles within the soul and amongst nations. Eddings' Begariad and the Malloreon are quick, highly enjoyable reading. I have yet to be entertained to the extent that Eddings entertained me with these two series. So, keep your Jordan books, who's never-ending plot seems more designed to continue making revenue than present a good enjoyable tale. Keep the all-too-serious Moorecock books, with their grim interpretation of the universe. If I were propped before a warm hearth-fire at some cosy tavern near the woods, with a flagon of ale in my hand, I would much prefer to hear the heroic tales of Belgarath and his friends over a tale of grim tragedy and unfathomable magic, like we find in most other contemporary fantasies. Eddings is always worth my hard-earned coin!
Rating: Summary: The beginning... Review: I have read all of the books in the series and i still reread them constantly. Although "Pawn of Prophecy" was not my favorite of the series, this book does it's job. It pulls readers into the plot and into the lives of Garion, Aunt Pol and all the others. The characters that Edding's creates become more than just people on a page but real human beings that touch our hearts. They become people that you can relate to and in a way they become real. I have read many series of Fantasy Fiction INCLUDING "The Wheel of Time" series by Robert Jordan and none of those characters moved me as much as Garion and the rest.Nothing can compare to what Eddings has written.
Rating: Summary: A very good book, twisted plot, lot's of profesional details Review: This book has a great story line and a extreamly twisted plot that holds you in an unmerciful embrace. It has a lot of good detail and and is woven very tightly, no holes in the story line, for such an intricate peice. However, beware, ther are five books in this seriers and the author dosn't do a very good job at puting seperate endings on each book, in other works, once you start with this seriese, you can't stop until the end. I am at this very moment cought deep in the embrace of David Eddings' intricate tapestry, but I'm not struggling very much!!
Rating: Summary: Absolutely fabulous series of books Review: The first in a series of fabulous fantasy books, perfect for escapism and relaxation. I read Pawn of Prophecy about ten years ago and have eagerly awaited each instalment over the years.
