Summary: Brilliant stuff from a master!
Review: Just because it may start a little slow do NOT give up. By the end of the book you will be hooked. I read Pawn when I was 13, and it was a while before I bothered to read the rest of the series. When I had I went right back and read it all through again just for the pleasure. These books are truly enjoyable and are enhanced by the Malloreon and the prequels, Belgarath the Sorcerer and Polgara the Sorceress. A terrific read I recommend to all readers everywhere

Summary: Good solid fantasy
Review: The main thing that bothered me about Pawn of Prophecy is that it is not a self-contained book at all. Granted it is somewhat short, but the book just abruptly stops at the end, without tying anything together. I assume it will be continued directly in the sequel which I have not yet read. I know a lot of writers plan on writing many sequels (Jordan, Goodkind, etc.) but at least there is some kind of resolution of at least some of the characters problems at the end of each book. Eddings does write a solid fantasy, however, and is very good at immersing the reader in the environment of the novel. It is a little slower-paced than most of the fantasy novels I have read, but still it is very good. I look forward to reading the sequel.

Summary: The Best of The Best
Review: David Eddings is my favorite author and has been since I read Pawn of Prophecy 11 or 12 years ago. This book captured my imagination like non other had and I immediately rushed to the library to plow my way through the rest of them. Now I own the Belgariad, The Mallorean, The Elenium etc etc!! I read them all regularly and even though I know them backwards and forwards, I still rush through a series until the very last word then take a breath to recover! Pawn of Prophecy is like stepping into a strangely familiar world, and you get the feeling as you're reading it that your journey is going to be a long one. I seriously recommend David Eddings to anyone, especially if they haven't read any of this genre - this book and its sequels will gently ease you into a world of wonders. Fantastic.

Summary: WONDERFUL BOOK
Review:

I think this is one of the best books I have ever read. It is full of twist and turns at every corner, and the plot is exciting. You wait breathlessly to find out what happens to Garion next. That's why after finishing this book, I rushed to the library to get the second book in the series. David Eddings is a masterful writer.

Summary: Stopped me dead
Review: This book dissapointed me so much that I never reached the next in the series. Maybe it was because I'd just finished tEoTW, but I thought the writing was terrible, so never managed to get past that to the OK plot. Sorry Eddings, back to Jordan and Donaldson for me.

Summary: Slow but interesting
Review: This was my first David Eddings book. While I found it "slow" in its pace, it was very easy to read and I enjoyed "meeting" the characters. In fact, I read the book in two days. The characters are well developed and the story line is interesting. The mystery and intrigue in the book are also a big plus. While I would wholeheartedly recommend this book, it would be with the caveat not to expect a lot of action--some but not a lot. But the potential for Garion to grow and become a strong "force" in the book is clearly evident. From the other reviews on this board, I expect the rest of this series to be better, and I can't wait to start on them.

Summary: A Great Sci-fi/Magic read!
Review: This was a great book! I finished it in a long 48 hours! I couldn';t put it down. You develop emotions towards the characters, and your heart races at parts. Magic use increases in every chapter. This is the only book I've ever read that is at least as good as The Wheel of Time.

Summary: I feel an obsession starting
Review: I haven't read much fantasy since I was a kid, but just as a diversion, I decided to read this book. I think I'll be reading the whole series. It ain't art, but it sure is fun. I've been going to bed each evening still thinking about what I had just read, and what twists and turns will be coming in the future. I hope to read all of this exciting series, and then find some other fantasy/sci-fi authors. Who knows? Maybe, I'll dig out my old Lord of the Rings, and see if its as good now as it was in High School.

Summary: EXCELLENT INTRO INTO FANTASY
Review: THIS IS A GOOD BOOK TO BEGIN WITH IF YOU ARE UNFAMILIER WITH FANTASY. THE CHARACTERS ARE WELL DEVELOPED AND BELIEVABLE. THE BOOK IS WRITTEN IN SUCH A WAY THAT THE END GIVES YOU A NATURAL TAKEOFF FOR WANTING TO FINISH THE REST OF THE SERIES. ENJOY!!
