Summary: Sad
Review: I'm rarely thoroughly disappointed with the books I read for pleasure because I'm so selective about what I'm going to read. But I'll pardon myself since this was the first alternate history I ever read. The dialogue is completely devoid of any subtlety, the Germans are reduced to one-dimensional villains (hey, I'm no admirer of the Third Reich, or any state for that matter, but don't insult my intelligence with arbitrary good-guy and bad-guy charicatures), and the story seems poorly researched. It is true that there are no plausible alternate histories, only believable ones, and I gave Newt Gingrich the benefit of a doubt that there would be evident political bias in the book. But the message in defense of American intervention in conflicts abroad hits the reader over the head. The aknowledgement at the beginning is a dead giveaway to the far-from-subtle message to come, but I wasn't about to judge the book until I'd read the last page. Well, I have now, so I'll judge it. It was a waste of my time and money, and a shallow, pulpy excuse for an alternate history, and I felt a little bit dumber for a long time after reading it. If you want to read good alternate history, read Harry Turtledove ("The Guns Of The South," The "World War" series, "How Few Remain," the forthcoming "Great War" series, all well worth reading). William, if you're reading this review, it's nothing personal; I liked Wing Commander: Heart of The Tiger! But really, if you're the pulp-fiction type then that's your thing; go ahead and buy the book. Otherwise, find something else.

Summary: It got me in from the first chapter. I'm eager for more !
Review: I picked this book up at an outback South Australia newsagent whilst desperate for something to read on vacation. Mills and Boon isn't my cup of tea so 1945 was the best option. Imagine my surprise (and my wife's disgust) when the holiday took a back seat. I simply could not put it down. I had to keep telling myself that this was not how WWII ended. Since then I have hunted high & low for the sequels only to find out through other readers comments that it isn't yet published. Newt, how can you do this to me ! Hurry up for my sake and all the other readers like me. Take off your politician's hat and do things quickly for a change.

Summary: Terrific book, fast paced, realistic, excellent "what if".
Review: Just finished it, dying for the sequel. Realistic blend of fictional and historical characters. More please Mr. G!

Summary: A chilling look at an alternate history
Review: Excellent book. I just love ...what if's... especially when it comes to WWII. This is an especially chilling look at an alternate history and a good account on what it would be like if our homeland were invaded....

Unfortunately, just when it's at it's best....

TO BE CONTINUED............

Bill..... PLEASE WRITE THE SEQUEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Summary: VERY GOOD BOOK BUT WHERE IS THE D*MN SEQUEL!?
Review: A very good read, but also very frustrating. If this book was written in '95-96, why has it taken so long to write a sequel?

Summary: A VERY GOOD READ
Review: Excellent premise that really gets you thinking the what-if scenario. Particularly interesting in today's political climate. I am anxiously awaiting the next book. PLEASE WRITE IT!

Summary: Great alternative historical tale. Sequel PLEASE!
Review: Not quite as meticulously done as Harry Turtledove's "Guns of the South, but a surpisingly plausible scenario. Like another reviewer, the only thing that I found hard to believe was the massive US demobilization after the Great Pacific War (but then, look at the US when Korea happened) Newt, don't be like Herman Wouk and keep us wating nine years for a sequel!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Great book to read on a plane or the beach.
Review: I truly enjoyed this book, not so much for the escapism, but rather for the message it tells---we all must face up to our responsibilities, as people and nations. Perhaps this was what Newt intended, but I doubt it.

Anyway, I did enjoy the story and I would really love to get the sequel. HOWEVER, as we all know, none has been published yet.

Would Baen Publishing Enterprises please ask Mr. G. and the others to complete the sequel? If Mr. G. does not have the time, would he at least collaberate with the other authors to get the book written? It seems to me that Mr. Forstchen is eminently capable to write the sequel.

How about it?

Summary: GREAT WWII FICTION BOOK
Review: Germany has destroyed most of the Soviet Union, has allied with Vichy France, and forced Great Britain into a peace treaty. The main characters are Lt. Commander Jim Martel and CIA director Donovan.A great fiction book and a fair suspense book.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Interesting read, but should be finished by now.
Review: The premise for this book, that Hitler does not declare war on the US in 1941, and then goes on to win the War in Europe, makes for an interesting scenario. My only real objection is the lack of a sequel; I suspect that after this long, one will NOT be forthcoming.
