Rating: Summary: A great book for a golfer of any level. Review: The swing presented in this book is based on an in-depth, scientific analysis of the swings of over 100 PGA, Senior PGA and LPGA tour players. Of course, no two swings were exactly alike. However, this book stresses the common traits present in the majority of the swings and combines them into the "ideal" swing of the Pro.I noticed right off the bat that Tiger Woods was not on the list. However, the authors of the book have gone back since the writing of this book and compared Tiger's swing to that of the Pro. As it turns out, his swing is closer to that of the Pro than any other swing they have analyzed. Maybe that explains why he is the #1 golfer in the world. I've read many books on the full swing written by people like Jack Nicklaus, David Leadbetter, Jim McLean, Ben Hogan, Curtis Strange and Greg Norman. This book breaks the swing down into its basic elements with easy to understand text and detailed pictures better than any other book I've read. It also identifies common faults that can occur during each stage of the swing and provides drills to eliminate these faults. To supplement the information in the book, I highly recommend purchasing the Screen Saver at the ModelGolf web site. It shows the swing of the Pro in motion from several angles with the driver, 2 iron, 5 iron and 9 iron. It's one thing to read about the swing and look at pictures but if you really want to take it to the next level, there's nothing like watching the Pro's perfect swing over and over at full speed, in slow motion or frame-by-frame. If you want to see the Pro swing before you purchase either the book or the Screen Saver, you can download a free version of the Screen Saver from the web site that contains two sample swings. Don't expect to read this book to find the magic cure to fix your swing. Rather than providing quick tips to fix the "symptoms" of a poor swing, this book provides a framework to rebuild your swing from the ground up based on proper mechanics. To really benefit from this book, expect to expend a lot of time and energy.
Rating: Summary: Swing Like a Pro Review: This Book beats anything I have ever read on the "secrets" of the golf swing. I found that the book, while a bit technical, explained the golf swing in plain jargonless language. It demistified the swing immensely. The paragraph on the transition from backswing to downswing was, for me, the highlight of the book. Sometimes so much mystery is connected with transition by golf instructors that the average golf has trouble comprehending it. Yet this book clarifies the concept, and gives excellent exercises to ingrain the mechanics of transition. Using its methods increased my accuracy and distance. Whereas I used to hit my pitching wedge 100 yards, I can now coax 120 yards out of it. My distance with other clubs increased as well. I am a high handicapper, 60 years old, and 5'6" tall. If this book can help me it can help anyone. Although I found the exercises to be generally helpful, I thought some of the explanatory text to be lacking in detail. Larry Yuzda Calgary Canada
Rating: Summary: Breakthrough Book On Golf Review: This book has given me a grasp not only on the how, but the why of the different components of a good golf swing. I have read the book twice and realized 15 yards more on all irons, 25 more on my driver. My enjoyment of golf has doubled and my confidence has soared. I will be attending the Compusport Golf School in Nevada at my earliest oppotunity.
Rating: Summary: Hands down the most helpful golf book I've ever read Review: This book is fantastic. I've read most of the big golf books, and no other book even comes close to such a thoughtful, precise, and logical explanation of the golf swing. The authors step through each phase of the swing and tell you exactly what you should be doing and why. No ambiguity, everything clearly explained, fantastic logic- it's just wonderful.
I just wish I'd found this book 3 years ago- I'd be a much better golfer now.
I've taken 4 "Model Golf" lessons as well- they create a custom model based on your arm length, height, shoulder width, club length, etc., and then overlay the model over your swing on a video screen next to the lesson tee. The lessons have been incredibly helpful, allowing me to drop my handicap from a 22 to a 15 in the last year. Unfortunately there are very few teaching centers around the country. If you are lucky enough to have one in your area, you may want to look into it (see the model golf web site).
Rating: Summary: Finally Some Real Information Review: This book is like a breath of fresh air, after years of inhaling the stale stuff. After taking lessons from 6 "top" teachers and getting 6 conflicting opinions - I gave up paying good money for instruction, and was ready to give up the game. My golf library fills two bookcases, and it offered more of the same opinion based drivel. I then came across the SLAP book, and found what I consider the Bible of the sport. Read it and you will learn. Follow the drills and you will improve. This science based stuff puts the opinion sellers to shame.
Rating: Summary: De-mystifies the swing. Best swing analysis ever. Review: This book is such an "aha" experience. All of the things you've read in all the magazines, come together here. I myself took a single tip and practically eliminated the lifelong slice I had. The use of the animated-looking figure makes everything so clear you will be amazed, and amazed that no one ever did this before. This is a great find!
Rating: Summary: GREAT TEACHING FORMAT Review: This book is very sound in helping the student understand the swing while teaching the moves. You must understand the basic principals to have confidence in repeating them. It also gave many helpful drills to help understand moves explained. I did feel as if the backswing should not be initiated soley with a lateral weight move and no arm movement. I feel the arms should be as much of the start of the backswing as the weight shift.
Rating: Summary: Best golf book I have read. Review: This is the best book on the golf swing in that I have read. It's technical approach appealed to me. I hope Dr. Mann writes more on other aspects of golf.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: Very technical instruction on the full swing. Great exercises included. Highly recommended for those people who want to dissect and understand the perfect golf swing.
