Summary: AWESOME!
Review: This book is great! It's a quick read but fascinating! The photographs are excellent and the handwritten replies give you a really cool perspective on the players. This book is one you will keep on the coffee table, so you can always pick it up and read a letter--especially the one regarding Shoeless Joe Jackson--it's touching.

Summary: comprehensive
Review: this book is lot of things, a fun, breezy, baseball read, that you can pick up anytime. also, it is timeless, not being germane to any particular baseball event (like for instance the story of the 1998 yankees). It's also like a history book, because I am learning about some of these players I never heard of before, like Larry Yount (what a letter!), Carl Mays (I think he should be in the Hall of fame after reading his entry), Ken Krahenbuhl (I was on the floor laughing after reading he was traded for ten pounds of catfish). So it's not just the star letters (although there are lots of 'stars' in the book, I like the other guys better). It's the ultimate gift book--the photographs are plentiful--it looks like a scrapbook--loved it!

Summary: Great concept, great book
Review: This is a beautiful book. I recommend it highly to anyone who wants to 'experience' a truly different book. I've never seen a book with about a hundred people in it in their own handwriting--especially basebll players. In this day an age of e-mail, it's refreshing to know there are real people still out there. Highly recommended.

Summary: Time Traveling
Review: This is a great book. It allows you to time travel back to simpler times, whether you want to relive the fifties, sixties, 30s, even 20s. It's presented in such a simple way (you see the actual letters and amazing photographs) that the book is almost an antidote to these crazy, too-fast times we live in. I highly and without reservation recommend it for all ages.

Summary: Getting Me Through A Cold Winter
Review: This is the kind of book that you want to read by the warmth of a fire, with hot cocoa on a cold night in the winter when the only baseball there is, is in your imagination--or should i say in Mr. Swirsky's. What a fabulous book! The book is so full of heart and humanity. Of course, I bought "Baseball Letters" his first book the day after I read this book. I just hope he continues to keep giving us these imaginative, delicious treats every few years. These books are on my living room coffee table to stay!

Summary: On Today Show
Review: Was up this saturday and saw this book on the Today show--the anchor seemed like he loved it so I got it. I'm a big baseball fan--my dad and my four brothers all grew up playing and talking stats at the breakfast and dinner table. The letters in this book get right to heart of the game. My personal favorite was Harry Danning's letter--he was a catcher for the NY Giants in the 30s. He was asked by the author to depict pitcher Carl Hubbell's great control. He wrote a story about how Hubbell dunked a girl sitting on a plank at a carnival that the Giants players went to. He dunked her so many times with his accurate throws, that the girl quit the carnival! I also loved the 'Mad Hungarian's" letter, Al Hraboky. He wrote liked he pitched--right in your face! I really do highly recommend this book. I tried to buy the author's first book but they were out of them.

Summary: Like The Godfather PartII
Review: was/am a huge fan of "Baseball Letters", so I had to get this one when I heard it came out. It's interesting because I almost enjoy reading "Baseball Letters" three years after it came out. So many players who wrote swirsky have died. It's like he did a documentary in book form. I find "Every Pitcher", his new 'documentary' to be like the movie The Godfather Part II--a fabulous follow-up, even richer in certain respects. Steve Carlton's explanation of why he didn't speak to the media is fascinating--i never knew why. also, the letters from multibillionaire warren buffett--he pitches for his company team-- and peanut character Charlie Brown are very cool--it's among the things that make this book and his first one different.

Summary: Best christmas gift ever
Review: When I got this treasure of a book (I noticed Billy Crystal said that as well on the book's jacket), I hugged my son twice and said 'you've made my christmas so special'. This book gives you that feeling.
