Summary: Best tool to raise your score.
Review: This is by far the best thing you could do to raise your score but you have to be willing to put in some time. I started with a 1350 (710V, 640M) and then bought the book and let it sit for about 6 months or so then 3 weeks before the next time i took it i started taking the practice tests scoring between 1390 and 1540. I took the real test in march and ended up with a 1510(780V,730M)! of course each test is about 3 hours so for around 30 hours of work i would say it is worth it!

Summary: Great SAT prep book
Review: I think this is a great book for anyone looking to find help with preparing for the SATs, it was recommended to me by many friends and family members and it is a wonderful book. If you're feeling at all unprepared this is sure to boost your confidence.

Summary: Get this book
Review: This is a book you should get even if you also insist on getting one of those Kaplan-style books that try to teach you tips and tricks for the test. The tests printed in this book are authentic and exactly like the real SAT. If you do several of these before you take the actual test, and look over each one to see what you did wrong - that is probably the best way to prepare short of ruining your life and memorizing lists of stuff. (Which probably would not work anyway.) Math is not my strong suit and my score went up significantly just through looking at the tests and realizing that the same sorts of questions come up over and over again - so it is best to get to know them well. Verbal wise, I can't really offer any good tricks for people who have trouble with that. Just start reading I suppose...
So to summarize, I'll say that using this book and familiarizing yourself with the test is the single best thing you can do to prepare.

Summary: SAT Breakthrough Book!!!
Review: This is the best SAT workbook you can buy! I've been a SAT instructor for a while now and nothing compares with having "real" SAT questions to work through. This is the official guide to your success on the SAT. SAT students should take this book one step at a time and learn the techniques and strategies of getting the right answer. These include plugging in, working backwards, getting into the mind of the "College Board", testing relationships between word pairs, etc. I highly recommend this book and would vouch for it anytime! A must buy!

Summary: Great Prep
Review: This book is what I used to focus most of my study time. It contains real SAT's used in the past and is the only book sponsered by the College Board, the administrating board of the SAT. Great Book !

Summary: By far the most important book to buy!!
Review: You simply CANNOT prepare for the SAT I without this book; I use it as the core for my SAT I test prep class.

There is no substitute for official test questions, no matter which test you are taking. This book is the *only* book on the market that has them, and many of these questions are from recent tests; two are from 2000.

The book includes some strategies, answers, and score conversion tables; whatever score you get on these tests is your TRUE score. Don't rely on your scores from other books, trust me.

This book, however, doesn't give explanations for the questions, so you'll need to figure them out yourself or ask a teacher, but still, this book is fantastic!

Good luck on your test and order this book!

Summary: Good book, good help
Review: I think that the book was helpful in preparing for the SAT. I plan on taking it again this October, and will see how well it will do in the area of improving my score from my previous attempt. The book uses excellent examples and practice questions that offer explantions about each answer. Two thumbs up on this one

Summary: Not needed to do well, might hinder your preparation.
Review: This book was not exactly the greatest prep book (Barron's is). However, I was able to practice ten tests. Problem was that those practice tests were scaled extremely generously, the SAT's I took were more strict with the scaling. This book is just to gauge your performance and should not be used as a prep book.

Summary: Improve 100 points
Review: After a run of two years, where I used this book as a major contibuting text for my students, I have seen an average improvement from junior to senior year test takers of 100 points.

Everyone should realize that success on the SAT has a good deal to do with test taking techniques, and this allows you to understand and prepare for the actual test.

What makes this book good in particular is that you get 10 samples of actual tests, you get good test-taking skills suggestions, and you get (at least in my copy) a CD-ROM that allows you to further explore other sources of information for improvement.

Good deal, definitely worth studying.

Summary: Good but...
Review: This book is on the right track, but when you look at it, many of the tests included are pre-1995, when the SAT was recentered, making them not nearly as useful as the book could be if it were updated. Instead, I suggest "Gruber's Complete Preparation for the New SAT." It is an excellent book and raised my score 150 points.
