Rating: Summary: from a 20 year old Review: I was at first reluctant to read this, and then I looked through it and sat down and read it. This is a very good book. I liked the way it is set up and how it is easy to read. Some of the NCV translation seemed odd to me at first, since I have used the NIV translation most of my life. This is the kind of New Testament I could give away to a roommate, especially one who is against religion. What a powerful tool this can be to reach teen girls for Christ! The only part I had a problem with was the "let the guy do the asking and take control" part. That part bothered me a bit. But otherwise, this New Testament is very good!
Rating: Summary: Fun! Review: While in the local Christain bookstore, my teenage daughters stopped to browse for new Bibles, they have had their old ones for years and were ready for something new. They picked up many and gave me plenty of hints as to which ones were on their "wish lists". As we walked out of the store Revolve caught my eye on the magazine rack. I pointed it out to them, they thought it was very cool. A few days later I purchased a copy for my daughter and gave it to her at her 16th birthday party. Her friends threw a surprise party for her at the bowling alley Saturday. There were about 16 or so teens there, about split guys and girls, both found the book fun and enjoyed the perspective. After the bowling alley, all headed for a Bible study at one of the girl's homes (and the topic happened to be purity that night). This magazine did not replace the text they were studying. And it is not my daughter's new bible, but it is a good source of topics of relevance, or at least interest, to her and her friends. She'd never accept it as her "Bible", the Old Testament isn't even included. I don't allow my girls to buy any magazines like Seventeen or Cosmo, but here is a publication that addresses issues that teenage girls think about, yet guides them in their choice to follow God's Word. They are intelligent enough to know that this is an interpretation to help provide application to possible teen situtations, particularly in America. Keep in mind that it does contain the Complete New Testament in "New Century Version" (Books Chapters:Verses labeled), which has been available for some time (I have never read the NCV, but I have not read the NIV either, I like NAS & KJV)I guess my opinion in a nutshell is...Seriously, how refreshing would it be for you to see a bunch of teenagers of both sexes, flipping through ANY Christain translation of the New Testament in a bowling alley on a Saturday evening?
Rating: Summary: Utterly vile Review: Well, finally we have sunk to the bottom of barrel in the Bible-for-profit industry. Here is a Bible that leads one to believe that the primary message of the Gospel is teenage girls in their adolescent self absorption. I have always been against Bibles that cater to a specific market, whether they be race groups (The African Bible) or age groups (The Teen Bible) or theological interest groups (The Reformed Bible). This is because the message of the Bible is not first about the issues that drive people personally, but about God and his message of love. This Bible however, manages to take an already bad concept to an all time low, with a glossy model like cover and beauty tips for teenage girls. I was under the impression that the Bible served to correct the egocentricity and demonic consumerism of our times. I had no idea that we were to pretend this egocentricity were all the while about Almighty God! It gets worse. If one goes to the Thomas Nelson website, one gets the official justification for this publication as being the fact that many teenage girls think that the ordinary Bible is just too "big and freaky looking." Perhaps the cross of our Lord is also too freaky looking? The truth is that most of these teenagers are a figment of the publisher's imagination. My own experience is that teens seek for the deeper things in life, and that we should not believe profit driven companies who stereotype teenage girls as being shallow and self absorbed. Are we truly to believe that the only way to reach a teenage girl is to make the Gospel funky like her lipstick? I have taken a personal decision with this publication, and that is no longer to support Thomas Nelson publishers, either by buying or reviewing their products. They have lost all credibility in my eyes with what can only be described as utter rubbish, and they have prostituted their once good name with sheer utter devilish tripe.
Rating: Summary: Founders of Models for Christ love this New Testament Review: This New Testament is a breakthrough for the cause of Christ. We love it, and believe that it will bless any who decides to purchase it. Everyone we show it to wants 10 or 20 copies to give to others. Other than our ministry Models For Christ .com This is the first venture of Christians into our world of fashion that we have seen. Our culture is dominated by the media and fashion is a key player in this realm. How can we be relevant to our world today? This NT is a huge step forward. We are not changing the content. The message is the same. But at every church the packaging is different. Thats what this NT is. The same TRUTH in a different package that is relevant. My wife and I have been models in the fashion industry here in NYC for over 15 years. We are also associate staff with Campus Crusade.
Rating: Summary: Christian parents should avoid this at all cost!!! Review: I've never been more embarrassed in my life to be a Christian. This is just old fashioned brain washing at its worst. I try to empower my daughter to respect herself and take an active role in her life - that's what Jesus really wants. Not to "follow the boy's lead". That just leads to unhealthy and even unsafe relationships. For any parent who truly loves and respects their child this should stay as far away from your kids as illegal drugs. It teaches our daughters to be mindless and subserviant and sacrficices Jesus' name to do so. This abhorent trash has really gone too far. Empower your children teach them about real examples of strong Christian women: Condoleeza Rice is the NSC advisor, Margaret Thatcher was prime minister of England. This is the worst thing ever printed to the detriment of our kids. I'm not worried about my daughter following Britney Spears because she knows better - I am however worried about her following this abominable trash!
Rating: Summary: Party On Wayne Review: It gave me a good long laugh.
Rating: Summary: it is not a magazine. It is supposed to be the bible. Review: The funniest issue brought up so far is that this is a magazine. "Those who bashed the magazine were selfish;" "new magazine." "I highly recommend this magazine!!!" It is not a magazine. It is supposed to be the "complete new testament". Says so right on the cover. So... If a Bible is so closely mimicking the very magazines that help contribute to the self-esteem issues of young woman, should it be endorsed? Especially by ministers of the gospel who are looking at the trendy and being deceived into thinking that the Bible is a "magazine". The very fact that readers here think that this is a magazine would suggest that something is very wrong with taking this marketing approach.
Rating: Summary: a really kewl book for you life. Review: For your infomation, I'm a Christian teenage and I really relly love Jesus cuz I know Jesus will save from hell and i think this is really kewl (cool) cuz my youth pastor before sent this Bible to me which is not easy cuz the guards don't let him buy much stuff and even tho he knows i don't like books very much and it tells me not to be too smart cuz it could make boys get all intimadated and stuff and i need to be a godly helper and a good housewife cuz thats what Baby Jesus wants for my life. and so like all those other girls who think they're geniouses and stuff just read this bible for yourselve and see that you don't need to go to college you just need to get ready to be a good wife and mother cuz that's what God wants for you and learning to do makeup and stuff will help you get married and then have babies thats why you get married, you know, and why would you want to do anything else than what God says maybe you listen to the devil too much.
Rating: Summary: I would give this zero stars if I could... or negative 5... Review: Just so you know, here is an excerpt from Revolve New Testament... I got it from salon.com: "Thinking of asking a guy out? Revolve girls don't. "Sorry," they're told. "God made guys to be the leaders. That means that they lead in relationships. They tell you they like you." ... I am thoroughly discusted.
Rating: Summary: It's a sad, materialistic world Review: What has the world come to when we have to package the Scripture in a Seventeen magazine?? Yeah, study Bibles are cool... when they help you understand the scriptures. Nowhere in scripture does it compare makeup foundation to Christ as the foundation of your life. That is, unless you are reading Revolve. It's sad this sort of stuff is even sold in Christian bookstores, let alone endorsed by the Christian media. Things like this destroy young girls. It's more destructive, I would venture, than even YM or Teen People. Because no longer is the message, "you need to look like this to be popular." The new message is this: "you need to look like this in order for God to love you."
