Rating: Summary: an oft-pandered-to demographic is touched again: retards Review: like a slick, purplish tumor, the bible was knifed from a body of work (play, honest and desperate and beautiful scrabblings, sun-addled blatherings, clerics' self-serving propaganda) several orders of magnitude greater than its own girth. it has since suffered several other transformations, to heap of which is added this newest, by america's own girthsome, forest-dwelling, unshod hillbillies (i mean this only as an imprecation-- of course the authors would never be so honest and bold as to actually follow jesus' words and give up all their worldly possessions to follow him). doublethinking retards.
Rating: Summary: It Applies to My Life Review: This is a really neat Bible. The things inside are very relevant to my life. There are lots of helpful hints and tips about stuff you go through everyday. It will help you to learn more about stories and women of the Bible in a way you can easily understand. There were also some very cool quizzes that my friends and I like to do together. I just thought this was a very good Bible.
Rating: Summary: My Lawd! this is the funniest thing since creation! Review: This was the funniest read all year. Nelson Bibles (that can't be his real name - tee hee) creates a spot on lampoon of the paranoid christian right and ditsy shallow teenage girls. OH my gawd LOL - vigriginty rules OK! - yeah. This book had me in stiches for a whole week. Well played Nelson Bibles!
Rating: Summary: Cutting Edge Review: Revolve is cutting edge! Revolve is the complete new testament that has been revised into a magazine. It's youthy, fun and also has healthy insights for our youth. I absolutely love it from cover to cover. I first saw this magazine at the Women of Faith Conference and knew I had to have it and had to share it with all of the Young Women I know. What a great way for young people to share the gospel with there friends, it is so cool and nonchalant. What young christian woman wouldn't want to have this! It's content is relative and it meets youth right where they are today. When I think of Revolve, I picture a student sitting in class with a Revolve magazine on there stack of books and another person saying, "What is the name of your magazine?" And WHAPOW! You have just touched somebody with the word of God. This is definitely a must have it, resource. It is cutting edge. To you a job well done!Katrina Quigley
Rating: Summary: WOW the New Testament for the MTV crowd ... Review: All you have to do is watch ONE of the MTV award programs for you to realize that church ... religion .. faith and for that matter ANY deep thought will have a lot of problem competing for the minds of our 'instant gratification' generation ....
WOW if that ain't a mouthfulll ..... This 381 page book is an attempt to compete for the 'hearts and minds' of young girls. Probably with a great deal of effort the publisher has managed to actualize the new testament into easier language and pesent it in a magazine, a la '17' and so on, format. There are bright and colourfulrr pictures on al the pages, and the three column layout makes it a very very easy read. Discussions about dating, friendship, sex, peer pressure and all those things important to a teen girl are interspersed with sidebars and always explained with the bible and deep religious sprituality as the main theme .... One thing that did really bother me about this book is that it was probably written by some pretty militant Christian female protagonists .... For example, on page 188 in a 'Bible Bios: Hagar' the authors present Hagar as Sarah's slave girl and since Sarah was barren she convinced Abraham to 'sleep' with her and eventually take her as his wife. The bio continues that Sarah became jealous of Hagar and the son, Ismael, that she bore with Abraham causing Hagar to run away into the desert where where an angel told Hagar that her son would be a 'wild man that would bring conflict against all men'. Considering that Sarah became pregnant at a very very old age through divine intervention, and that Sarah had the 'whore' Hagar thrown out of her house now that she bore Abraham a son, I found this 'hard line' Christian interpretation to be a disappointing .... It would have been a much more opportune to dicusss jealousy, family unity and the father's responsiblitly to his son much more appros pos ...... OK is this supposed to pull the wool over the young readers mind? Those of you that believe that are so far gone that you are going to need much more than this version of the New Testament to land on earth .....Quite simply, this is an excellent modern vesrion of the Nerw Testament that is fun to read without dealing with pages and pages of travelogues to long gone places and unending 'begats' .....
Rating: Summary: Outstanding approach to reach teens with God's Word Review: How creative this is to use a fresh approach to encourage young women to turn to the scriptures when they have personal questions or challenges in their lives. This appealing and non-threatening magazine format contains the Living Word of God in an easy to understand translation with pertinent issues addressed alongside the applicable scriptures.
Rating: Summary: REACHING YOUTH! Review: This type of format will reach youth with positive messages in a way they find entertaining and can relate to. More power to them! Awesome idea - maybe this will help our youth on the right path!
Rating: Summary: disgusting Review: This is ridiculous. Instead of challenging our young people to reject the mysogeny of the fashion industry, instead we are catering too it. This "Bible" is a grade A example of everything that is wrong with american pop christianity today. Young women need to know that they are worth more than just what they look like. This "bible" is a very mis-guided attempt at "selling" the gospel but is actually a way for the publisher to sell more books and make more money.
Rating: Summary: Wish I Were Young Again Review: A friend and fellow church member asked me to "look through" and see what I thought!!! Wow! If something like this had been around when I was a younger woman (teens to 20 something) I think I would have become a Christian before 30. At 38 years old, I actually opened this New Testament before bed the night before last, intending to just "check it out" I was up untill after 2 AM because I litterally couldn't put it down. The articles and comments are so relative to the issues young women face, and really had always faced. It demonstrates that Christianity is cool! That there are Godly young men out there and young women do not have to compromise or "check their religion at the door". I also beleive that out curiosity young men (perhaps brothers of the readers) will pick up this bible and will learn and grow from the experience! As a woman who is going into ministry, I know that this will be an incredible tool in helping young women build relationships with God and Others.
Rating: Summary: This Rocks!!! Review: This Bible is incredible! As a family pastor, I have seen first-hand this Bible has revolutionized the way that teens - and even adults - look at Bible reading. This translation is easy to read and easy to understand. And teens who have been totally disinterested in opening the Bible to even look at it are dying for a copy of this. It is colorful, attractive, and is filled with devotions and thoughts relevant to any girl or woman today. These important thoughts and devotions are carefully designed as exciting magazine articles which run through the middle of the Bible text. This is a fabulous way to find that the Bible is truly interesting and relevant and to learn what true beauty is really made of. A must for every teen girl - and for those of us who are young at heart!
