Summary: The Struggle For Justice Is Genuine
Review: Mississippi, 1933: The South was still in the grasp of racial degradation and an economic Depression. This novel, told from the perspective of a nine-year-old girl in a large family, shows the courage of that family to fight for justice. Through Cassie's eyes, we see how the family tries to mount a protest against the white company store in town; the Wallace family runs the store and they have made servere racial attacks. When Cassie's family mounts a protest by shopping in Vicksburg and thereby passing trade to another business, the Wallaces fight back, literally.

Although it takes several chapters to establish rising action, when it finally does so, the pace is relentless. Read this for characterization (Mr. Morrison is fascinating). Read it for a window into the struggle of what we have had to work through in our country's history. While similar to To Kill A Mockingbird with its narrator being a young white girl, this novel is different in that it is told from the perspective of a young African-American girl.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: A good book, with a few drawbacks.
Review: I liked the book overall, but I found it too similar to "To Kill a Mockingbird." There was a lot of racism and prejudice, which helped out with the drama, but most of it was filled with talk. It also didn't wrap up very well. The ending was dry.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Roll of Thunder Hear my cry
Review: Roll of Thunder Hear my cry is a excellent book.Considering that the narrator is only 9 years old.The book has true problems in it so that is one of the main reasons I liked the book. The book took place in all different places instead of 2 or 3 places like most books do.The book is a really good book to read as a class in the middle school level, because Cassie is only 9 years old.I think people would really admire a 9 year old that can narrate a book.So I rate the book a four because it is a really good book.In the book Cassie has a way to get her problems worked out,in a good way

Summary: A Great Book!
Review: I really loved this book! I read it in 5th grade and I had to read it again. Far from being a rather dry historical account, it was a very appealing novel of a black family in the South. The Great Depression is going on, and Cassie Logan's family must struggle against prejudice and injustice to hold onto their land and each other. This is a very compelling read, making you want to reach out and take care of all the characters. The ending is really REALLY good, rather ironic and very powerful. I won't reveal it, but READ THIS BOOK! It is very simple and moving, but realistic and captivating. You'll love it!

Summary: Good read aloud book for class
Review: I read this book to my fourth grade class. They loved it! It's long but we never lost interest in the Logan family nor their friends. I recommend Mrs. Taylor's Logan books to anyone of any age. I enjoy reading about the family as much as my students. We are on our third now and still have three or four more to go.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: This book is great, despite what everybody else says.
Review: People may say that this is horrible, but it is great. If you can understand English, you will be intrigued and Taylor will draw you in immediatley. READ THIS EXCELLENT BOOK!

Summary: Roll Of Thunder Hear My Cry from a teenager
Review: I read Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry by Mildred D Taylor. This book gives a realistic account of growing up in the South. The white peoplecontrol the land that the Blackshave to share crop on and in a way, they are still slaves because they have no say what happens. I liked this book because you could really understand and realate to all the characters in some way or another. By this I meanthe characters are children and they do things that you could imagine your self doing when you were a child. The children often weasel out of predicaments together and will not break any promise to each other. This book is an easy read because there arn't any words or sections that are hard to understand. The book also gripes your attention for lengths at a time and won't let go.

Summary: Roll Of Thunder Hear My Cry
Review: It was the late 30's and the logan familiy had been trying to pay their bills and support each other. David, their father, worked on the rail road and Mary, their mother, worked as a teacher in the local school for blacks. Their kids names were Cassie(the nararator), Stacy(the oldest brother), little man, and Christopher John. They had many struggles, keeping up the farm, paying the bills, and having money for food were very hard things to do while the whites were harrassing, teasing, and trying to kill them. On top of all that, David and Mary were both out of a job. David got hurt by the Wallaces and Mary got fired for not teaching the white version of history. The Wallaces, Simon, and Mr. Granger were watching them like hawks, so that at any moment they could take their land and their lives. T.J., Stacy's friend, was not so lucky after Stacy stopped being "friends" with him. This was a very good book. I like how most of the book was in dialogue. I think that made it easier to read and tell what was going on and it gave me more emotions which makes it more interesting. It was just right for my reading ability, The book showed me how unfair it was bakc them for blacks to be hated so much and people could tease or kill with little emotion.
