Summary: What could be more normal?
Review: This is an essential book, especially for young people growing up recognizing their natural attraction for others of the same sex. As we begin to awaken from this collective nightmare in which natural love has been made out to be evil, we need this kind of literature to remind us of what it means to be human, and authentic. Also recommend LOVERS' LEGENDS: THE GAY GREEK MYTHS, to understand our history, and AM I BLUE? : COMING OUT FROM THE SILENCE.

Summary: Until you read this book you don't understand gay people!
Review: This book helped me show my friends and family that's
it's not right to judge people by their sexual
perfence but by who they are as a person. this was the
first of many gay books that i have read. I'm straight and
this book helped me. So if you are gay then it can really
help you understand. I felt like i could realte to these
guys in this book though evn though i'm not gay. They have
reputations to keep up just like everyone else so if you
don't understand why people 'choose' to be gay then you need
to read this book and others listed above as well.

Summary: Good read
Review: I'm not big on reading, but "Rainbow Boys" was a quick and fun read. I pretty much got through the whole book in one day, and the best part is I can't wait to read the next installment.

Summary: Loved It
Review: This book is one of the few that I can say actually relates to gays in today's highschools. We are discriminated by few, and loved by many. The few who discriminate though will stop and nothing to make life a living hell, but why let those few get you down? I like how they showed the inner turmoil of a "closet ...". The book (as usual) ended in a happy ending, but it does leave it open-ended, which I think is a positive aspect considering the sequel sounds to me like it's going to be even better than the first book. I loved how the book ran smoothly and didn't have parts that made you think "will the boring part ever end". If you like books with coming out and/or questioning you're own sexuality, then this is a must read. I for one can't wait for the sequel because the characters will be older and be more involved with things, and have a better sense of self. Hope this helps ya!

Summary: A great book, that everyone should read!
Review: This is a wonderful story about 3 teen boys trying to find who they are and where they belong. Even if you are not a homosexual, which I myself am not, the story will inspire you to be yourself and to stop homophobia in your own comuitee. It also spreeds the importance of a GSA or Gay-Straight Alliance, which trys to stop homophobia. Read this well writen book, its captivating i garentee that you will whizz through it and throughly enjoy it. Join your schools GSA, and help teens in you commitee that are struggling like Jason,Klye, and Nelson.

Summary: A Meaningful Soap Opera
Review: This book reads much like the script to an ABC afterschool special: three teens, struggling with issues of identity, sexuality, and social adaptation, eventually form bonds that make them stronger for themselves and each other. The twist: they're all gay (or at least questioning themselves about it).

Nelly is openly gay, a queen from the word go. His friend Kyle is closeted to his family, but knows who he is. Jason is on the basketball team, with a steady girlfriend, but lately he's been having some thoughts...about other guys.

Each of them deal with problems at school and home, ranging from verbal assaults to physical abuse, and none of them make it sound like growing up gay is in any way easy. Which, of course, it isn't. Everything happens to them in this book--HIV issues, best friend issues, and homophobic issues. Even problems with online relationships surface here. The book packs it all in in less than a few hundred pages. It's a soap opera, really, sprawling and ludicrous at times, and heartfelt and comical at others.

And yet...

It is worth the time. It is worth the read. Because being gay means controversy in modern society. Because, sadly, people CAN be homophobic, CAN be verbally aggressive, and CAN be physically abusive. Mr. Sanchez is a professional counselor, and he's done a great job condensing what sounds like a dozen or more cases of troubled gay teens into three different but similar characters. They all have their likeable moments, and moments you may find yourself screaming at the page, "Don't do that!" But the text engages the reader, and demands that perspectives be opened in our society. It may not be the most realistic read out there, but it is certainly a significant social commentary that would well be worth the read for gay (or questioning) teens and PFLAGers alike.

Read it, pass it around, and see whether or not people can come to their senses about tough social issues. At the very least, you'll enjoy the cracklingly funny moments, and at the very best, you'll get to see people opening up their minds to different ways of living.

Summary: Five Stars for the Rainbow Boys!
Review: This book is one of the best books I have ever read! Jason is on the basketball team, has a girlfriend, and keeps having ::ahem:: 'dreams' of guys. He doesn't think he's gay, but he keeps contacting the local gay youth group? When he shows up to one of their meetings he sees two boys he knows from school. Nelly/Nelson- an open and completely out gay kid, and Kyle- a "normal" boy on their school's swim team, not what Jason would think of as a "homo". Jason becomes more and more uncomfortable as Nelly teases him in front of the youth group- he doesn't stay long. Jason, however, still can't think about other guys... "that way". As Kyle and Jason's relationship eventually takes off, Kyle outs himself and becomes vicitim to torment from peers. What he goes through in that short period of time gives Jason and Kyle a new found respect for Nelly who has gone through the absue daily for years. Nelly, on the other hand, deals with his crush on a close friend and a stupid mistake that could threaten his physical health. This book is great! I had one problem, all three of the boys seemed to get intimate fairly quickly in their romances. Besides that, this book will get you very involved with the characters on a personal level and really helps break down sterotypes about all gay guys being girly and all lesbain girls being butch! Good job Sanchez!
