Summary: okay book
Review: I liked Beauty much better than this book. IN this book she seems a little too perfect and flawless. In beauty she is more spunky and just portrayed better.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Better than BEAUTY
Review: I think this was a story definitely worth retelling. I particularly like the ending . . . Beauty's choice about her future with the beast, I mean. Some people have complained that it's slow; I didn't find it at all slow. In fact, it was hard to stop reading.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Enchanting retelling of a classic fairy tale.
Review: I just finished reading Rose Daughter and was spellbound from start to finish. I must admit my lack of acquaintance with Robin McKinley, so comparisons to Beauty and other works cannot be made, but the imagery was so vivid and the atmosphere created so thick with magic and romance that I found it enjoyable - although probably (admittedly) a bit ponderous for too young a reader. I work in a K-6 library, and wonder who in my school (even the most mature 6th grader?) will be able to stick with this somewhat complex tale.

Summary: Fabulous!
Review: I'm a long-time McKinley fan, and I'll admit I was skeptical that Rose Daughter could meet my expectations formed by Beauty, but I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, the action happens a little slower, but I found the imagery helped me to savor the mood and the characters in the story. I especially liked the ending.

Summary: McKinley is telling the same story, adding nothing new.
Review: If you just want to read Beauty and The Beast over again, then this is the book for you. It was pretty interesting, but I really believe that anyone retelling a fairy tale should add something new to the plot as Donna Jo Napoli does in Zel and The Magic Circle. There were a lot of things not quite tied up in the end. Overall, it was good writing but again, not enough was added to the plot. I am hoping Robin McKinley's other books will be better.

Summary: An intreguing perspective on a classic tale
Review: Though I loved 'Beauty' there is really no comparing them. 'Rose Daughter' took an already beautiful story and added such depth as to pull you into a dream-like, almost surreal world at the center of which was a single rose.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: New Perspective on Beauty and the Beast, but confusing
Review: I was disappointed with this book. All of McKinley's books up to this point had at least been good. I found this book very slow moving and the characters not that well developed. I found that a lot of the conflict was not concluded at the end of the book. I am a sucker for happy endings and this did not have a very good one. It did, however, give me a different veiw on the story of Beauty and the Beast.

Summary: Why did Mckinley rewrite this tale? What's the challenge?
Review: I really don't want to say this, but truthfully, I hated this book. I dreaded the story from cover to cover. The context of the story was much more developed than the previous BEAUTY, but not for the better. Details did this book no good. The characters were much more deeper and emotional, but didn't seem to place this book on a higher level both ways.

But if you like to read retellings of conventional fairy tales, you MAY want to try this book.

Summary: A good book for anyone esle but dissapointing for Mcinley
Review: I am an avid reader and Robin Mckileys books have always enthralled me. I especially loved her Danmar books. When Rose Daughter first came out I could barely wait for the paper back version. After I had read it I was a little dissapointed. The book was good but not great. The interesting parts could have already been found in Beauty and most of the time the plot was confusing. I also didn't really enjoy the way what little suspense was being built up was just dropped at the end in a really long monolouge from a non-existant character. The book was well written, nice imagery of Beauty's family and town. The book just fell short of my too high expectations.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Enchanting, it has the elements of a 1st class fairy tale
Review: After reading McKinley's Rose Daughter I had a different view of the traditional Beauty and the Beast fairy tale. The characters were well developed and likeable with unique personal traits. The names of the two sisters were a bit awkward, but they fit the characters well. The ending was unexpected, but appropriate. It was an enjoyable devation from the standard. I felt Rose Daughter was a wonderful retelling of a classic fairy tale.
