Summary: Read Island of the Blue Dolphins Instead
Review: Sarah runs into a lot of bad luck, from losing her dad and brother to being accused of starting a fire and being a witch. Because of this bad luck, she becomes very independent, learns to fend for herself and develops a hardened exterior. In one scene she burns a page from the Bible because she finds no way that she can observe it's message. Sarah and her family encounter much persecution with their beliefs in political affairs and Sarah's later style of living. After running away, Sarah finds a cave to live in. She also obtains a musket which serves as her protector throughout the book. In this way, she is extremely breaking gender roles of the time period and being successful at this. Later in the story, she meets up with a Quaker and he tries to restore her faith in religion. She leaves him with doubtful impressions on whether her religion will be restored. She gains the admiration and affection of the Quaker storekeeper with her lack of "femininity" and wildness. This story is not very feel-good, and not as well written as "Island of the Blue Dolphins".

Summary: After The Patriot--try on this perspective!
Review: Sarah's father is a Whig--a colonist who remains loyal to King George III. As the American Revolution heats up, the Bishop family also feels the heat. Zealous patriots burn their house down and tar and feather Sarah's father (this was something I had always thought of as a funny prank, but after reading this book I realize what an agonizing cruelty this was). Homeless, orphaned, and accused by the British of a crime she didn't commit, Sarah takes to the woods with her trusty musket to survive as best she can. She must fend off a thieving Indian, a disgusting sexual predator, copperheads, bears, and a witch-hunting mob. Cynical and lonely, Sarah is ready to give up on the human race when a Quaker comes to her rescue. Based on a true story!

Summary: A wonderful book!
Review: The storyline was wonderful. I have read and re-read this book over 5 times. Couldn't say enough about it :O)

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Recommended by my daughter
Review: This book gives a unique perspective on the Revolutionary War. It is about a young woman whose father is a Loyalist, whose bother joins the Patriot Militia. Both of them are killed, and she is left to take care of herself. She is falsely accused of treason by the British, and becomes a fugitive.

This book doesn't really take sides on the Revolutionary War, but is more about Sarah's challenges, and how she overcomes them. She has many terrible and unfair things happen to her, but she learns how to take care of herself. She eventually learns to forgive those who have done her injustices, and learns to trust again.

It is a beautiful story about strength and courage. The only thing I didn't like about the story was that I thought it ended too abruptly.

Summary: Sarah, a troubled young girl, yet so determined
Review: This book is about a girl named Sarah Bishop(obviously). This story takes place in the time of the Revolutionary War. Her Father is a tory, someone loyal to the king, who gets killed because of it. His death was decided to be caused by a tar and feathering. On the other hand her brother Chad decides to be a patriot. He however gets put on a prison ship and eventually dies. The night Sarahs father dies her house burns down. The British army blames her for the burnt down house and wants her to be punished for it. She then runs away to a cave deep in the woods. There she leads a new life. This book was very good. It changed my thoughts and feelings and got me thinking about it all the time, and how lucky i am to have the stuff i have especially my family! READ IT

Summary: A must! One of O'Dell's best!
Review: This is a wonderful book! I have been learning about this point in time in History at school. In History books, the story is told from the American's point-of-view. This story is told from view of a 15 year old girl who's father is a loyalist. It tells of the hardships and persicution she faced during her life. These included the property of her family being burned, her father and brother being killed, being blamed for a crime she didn't commit, being accused of witchcraft, and more. I must admit it was a bit boring at first, but once I got into it, I couldn't put it down. I reccomend this book for older readers (grades 5-6+) because of the length, reading and vocabulary level. If you liked Island Of the Blue Dolphins and Zia, you'll love this.

Summary: Sarah Bishop is a hands down five stars
Review: This story about Sarah Bishop was sad and wonderful. I liked the way Scott O'Dell showed the both side of the civil war. Her father was for the king and was proud and her brother sided with the Americans and Sarah just hates it all. The war kills her father and her brother.Leaveing her with no family and hateing both partys more than ever because the war made her orphan. She then ran away into hiding after being chased for a crime she never made. Sarah feels she can't trust anyone now. I thought it was a wonderful book. It was so great that I read from 8 pm till midnight and thought it was about nine until I saw my clock! I definatly recomend it to any one from age 10 to 13.
