Summary: A great read!
Review: This was such a fun book to read. First off, I don't 'review' books like the others who tell you about the story.

This book has many interesting facets to it. The story is captivating and moves along at a steady pace leaving no boredom. It even starts with a bang. In addition, there are intriguing plot twists which is a definite plus.

Oddly, there are two other stories included in addition to the main theme. I won't elaborate but it adds a certain dimension, as well as humor, to it.

I am not a politically correct person and am easily put off with social issue "message" type books. However, this one addresses issues such as racism, peer pressure, and adolescent crime in such a good way. It didn't feel like you were being preached at like so many "message" books do. There are plenty of character issues addressed as well such as honesty, perseverance, patience, and understanding.

The book contains one small curse word that I can remember and no sexual references at all. There is some violence, including a murder, but the violence is brief and I didn't find it offensive. There is, however, some disturbing moments where a character becomes gravely ill but it's handled very well and used in a positive way.

On the lighter side the book has plenty of humor. Even when it shouldn't be humorous you'll find it is. Mr. Sachar has a way about that.

On the whole it's just a great book. I give it the full 5 stars for it's content, readability, humor, suspense and very happy ending. No wonder it won the Newbery!

I suggest grades 5 and up for reading on their own and 4th grade and up for being read to.

Summary: Holes
Review: " Welcome to Camp Green Lake," said the bus driver. The first words Stanley heard as he entered the campsite. He looked out the window and didn't like what he saw. From then on he knew Camp Green Lake wasn't what he expected.
Stanley Yelnats is sent to penalty camp because he was accused of stealing a basketball players shoes. When Stanley reaches Camp Green Lake he takes a look out the bus window and sees nothing but tents and holes in the ground. At first Stanley is teased and picked on by everyone, even the wordan, the boss of the camp. Stanley makes a friend named, Zero. They both decide to run away and try to get back home. But a few problems come their way.
Holes is a great book for kids that love to read about adventures. It is full of tales, friendships and mysteries. There are tons of details and they are all very interesting. I loved this book because it caught my attention fast and had a very appealing plot.
People who love to read about teenagers, adventures and mysteries would love this book. If you also like the author, "Louis Sachar" this is probably one of his best books he's written. If you like stories where there are always questions that don't have easy answers you should read this book
Holes is one of the best books I've read. If I've perked your interest with what you've read so far read this book! That way you will learn of all the troubles, adventures and stories Stanley and Zero pass through on their journey home.

Summary: The Best Book Ever
Review: Have you ever been accused of something you didn't do? Well this is what happens to Stanley in the book Holes. He gets accused of stealing some very expensive baseball shoes. This isn't the only bad thing that happens to Stanley. He has lots of bad luck because of his good-for-nothing pig-stealing great grandfather.

Stanley goes through a lot in the book Holes but he keeps on going through the thick and thin. Stanley is kind of a fat and slow kid and gets picked on a lot. Stanley gets a choice to go to jail or to go to a camp, a mean boot camp. So he goes to the camp called Camp Green Lake. It is not an ordinary lake because it does not have any water. It dried up a long time ago. There are only two trees and just a little camp.

Holes is a great book. It is very exciting and thrilling. It tells what happens to bad kids. This book is well written and relates to most kids. All my friends love this book too.

I recommend this book to all kids. If you get picked on or get accused of doing things you don't do then you will love this book. Kids will like this book more than older adults.

You should get Holes by Louis Sacher. If you don't then you will miss out on a good book. Now here is something to think about. What would you do if you were in Stanley's position? Hard to answer, right? Well there is an answer. Go read Holes and you will find out.

Summary: A good book but not quite there...
Review: I thought is was a good book no dought, but it didn't have that "kick" that really good books have. It was ok but not Newberry material.

The book is about a 13/14 year old boy who got cought stealling some shoes that he didn't really steal. He was punished by going into a camp. In this forsacen camp they had to dig all day long. Yes sadly enough they had do dig holes (hints the name of the book). These holes had to be five feet deep and five feet wide. It sounds like torture to me but not to the boy. He suspects that the sycotic warden is looking for something. But what could it possibly be???

You have to read the book to find out.

Review: I bought this incredible book after a reccommendation from a friend. I read it first, before my son. I read this book in 3 days, between housework and activities. I could not put it down. Then I gave it to my 11 year old son and said, "Just read two pages, that's all." He read thirty pages. In less than a week he finished the book. Now we talk about the story all the time. He loved it. This book is for kids, parents, you name it. I will never forget this book!!

Summary: Holes
Review: I really enjoyed this book. The characters have a wide spread of feelings, and names for each other. This book tells about, how a sneaker comes to be the reason for two of the boys, Zero, and Stanley Yelnats (his first name is his last name backwards). The ending is very good. If you want to read the book, you will have to fill in the holes at the end yourself !
