Summary: 1000 x 1000 kudos from this pleased reader
Review: I like to think I've been around the block and yet the possibilities this book offers are mind boggling. This is Schultz's personal life list - it says so right on the cover - so why all the complaints? Show me someone who can't find a few hundred recommendations here to keep them busy and happy for life! For the incredibly obscure to the wonderfully predictable (how can the Grand Canyon not figure on anyone's list??), I can't put put this 1000-page treasure trove down. For armchair meanderings and real vacation planning (this is no dress rehearsal - let's get going!) this book is a life saver to anyone remotely interested in exploring the earth's countless wonders. Thank you Ms Schultz!

Summary: Excellent Non-Fiction
Review: This is one of those works of non-fiction that really makes you want to get out there and LIVE LIFE!

A few others which will encourage you in that direction of seizing the day include GIANT STEPS by Tony Robbins
NEW SEX NOW by Clint Arthur
VOICE LESSONS TO GO by Ariella
and The Artist's Way.

Summary: There's only one bad thing about this book...
Review: You'll feel bad that you probably won't be able to get to all these great places!!

Seriously though, the title really says it all. A comprehensive list of interesting places to see around the world. Also includes additional helpful info as well such as cost of tours, etc. I give it 5 stars easy. Can also recommend "The No-Beach, No-Zone, No-Nonsense Weight Loss Plan, A Pocket Guide To What Works" for solid info on how to lose weight.

Summary: I WISH I HAD AN UNLIMITED CREDIT CARD
Review: I also have a list a places to see before I die and reading this books makes me never want to die. There are so many places to see that just reading this book makes me wish I had an unlimited credit card. This book is as interesting as it is helpful in planning my next vacation since I am not a beach/resort type of person. I love to see places of historical significance and the author has included lot's of places to see. I recommend this book to anyone with the desire to see the world.
Bravo Ms. Schultz for an amazing book. I hope you have more books in the works.

Summary: Didn't read, but why would I?
Review: The title of the book alone has to make you start thinking. Before I read the reviews I was hoping it was a metaphor or something like the "5 people you meet in heaven" only to be seriously depressed that someone has to tell me where to go. And, 972 pages????? And, from the reviews, what about America?? There are some great places to go in America. I think I would rather pick up the book "100 Places to Visit before you Die!" and enjoy my time than try and squeeze in that extra 900. Yikes.

Summary: disappointing (unless you like hotels)
Review: I enjoy traveling, and was expecting to find a book about amazing man made structures and natural wonders. I was expecting to find things that you would contemplate planning a trip around. I had high hopes for this book, and came away disappointed.

The main reason I was disappointed was that the author seems to LOVE hotels and restaurants. I didn't count how many, but I would guess about 30% of the things to see are hotels and restaurants. Personally, I don't care enough for hotels to believe that they account for 30% of the must see things in our world. I would prefer that the author lists sites to see, and then give recommendations for where to sleep and eat.

Another thing I found disappointing was the structure of the book. It was not laid out very well. Sometimes, the thing to see was very big and should have been broken out more. For example, the things to see in Hawaii were listed as Maui, Kauai, Lanai, Oahu, and the Big Island (basically all of the major islands that comprise the state of Hawaii). It is like saying the things to see in the United States are Illinois, New York, California, Florida, etc.

If you plan your trip around hotels, this is the book for you. If you do not, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

Summary: Have Your Own Virtual Amazing Race!
Review: There's a type of traveler I like to call a "scorekeeper traveler" who measures his life worth versus those of his friends based on how many continents, countries, or entries in a book he's visited... This book will appeal to him.

It's a fun book to flip through, but it's the kind of thing that will also tick you off if you take it too seriously. You'll get mad that the places you've visited and thought were among your greatest life experiences were omitted in favor of the five diamond restaurant across town.

This book is a short, trite, superficial look at 1000 places around the world. It's truly nothing special, but it's perfect for reading on the can while you contemplate where you want to go next.

Summary: Did you say self-centered?
Review: Seven entries on Japan (one of them is a friggin' mega-hotel in Tokyo) and five entries on Texas in 1000 pages -'nuff said.

Summary: $1000.00 per day, + change
Review: Patricia Schultz calls this book on and off the beaten track - 1,000 Places to See before You Die, yet focuses on the most expensive accommodations and resturants in the World. Concentrating in California, she recommends The Golden Door, in Escondido, CA, "the Spa of all Spas", where you can have breakfast in bed, a personal trainer and in-room massage for a mere $6,275. per week, per person. In San Francisco, she recommends The Ritz-Carlton ($380) and dinner in Yountville, CA at the French Laundry, a restaurant where dinner runs about $150.00 per person. While in Napa stay at Meadowood in St. Helena, Ca that will only put you back ($425). Let's see 5 days in Escondido, 1 day in San Francisco, a dinner in Yountville and 1 night in St. Helena roughly comes to $7,230.00.
Gee Patricia, I guess I'm going to miss a lot of places because I don't have $1000.00 a day, plus change to spend on your recommendations. This book has a great title but does not deliver the goods. Hugh Disappointment.
