Summary: DO YOU ENJOY TRAVELING? GET THIS ONE.
Review: I have owned books like this before. Some have just boring predictable suggestions for places to visit (Paris, Rome, Sydney etc,) while others have a bland guidebook type of narrative.

Schultz's compilation is a tightly researched work with fascinating trivia about the places he recommends, and there are plenty of places you wouldn't have thought about, and its got pictures to speak for themselves!

Makes for quite a handy gift item too, which is why I bought it initially, but liked it so much I decided to keep it for myself. Delectable!

Summary: Wow!
Review: I wish this book had been published 20 years ago. There are so many places that I want to see now that I've looked through Ms. Schultz's book, but I don't have that many years left! Thank you for the most comprehensive guide to travel that I've ever seen.

Review: As an avid traveler I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book and see if places I had visited were listed. Ms. Schultz met my wishes with wonderful new discoveries, important details and fantastic writing. This book is a wonderful compendium for both the active or arm-chair traveler. I am inspired and am excited to use this book for future adventures. Love the check list in the back of the book.

Summary: A travel book for all and for all occasions
Review: Whether you're an armchair traveler wishing to enjoy the most fascinating global destinations vicariously or you live to travel and are looking for the next great travel experience...or perhaps you're looking for a party gift that promises to promote incredibly interesting stories among guests...this book does it all! (I'm giving the book to all my nieces and nephews as a gift, along with a set of colored markers, to help them code and chronicle their life time travel experiences.) It is truly a book for all and for all occasions. It is sensitively written and incredibly complete. Brava, Ms. Schultz.

Summary: Time to prioritize
Review: What a wonderful resource for local and world travelers! Schultz gives us enough information to make you want to head for the computer or pick up the phone to make reservations. "1,000 Places to See..." will take you to places you've never visited and make you consider vacations you never thought you'd take.

One caveat: Learning about all these fantastic locales, then looking at your bank account and the amount of time you probably have left"...Before You Die," will mean prioritizing. But, what an excellent source of information to help you do just that.

Summary: travel, sing, make love
Review: This book has taken us to so many places. I started as a 45 year old woman who had never traveled. After I saw people around me die of cancer, I knew that there had to be more to my day to day. I saw this in a book store a few years ago and became inspired. My husband and I have traveled now every opportunity we've had. We've seen such beautiful things. And we didn't stop with travel. I have started singing lessons off of a CD- Voice Lessons To Go by Vaccarino. My husband started cooking classes at Sur La Table and we bought the New Sex Now video- hello!
Anyway, this has been good.

Summary: Before You Die - Another Last Chance
Review: As a well-preserved baby boomer, I am increasingly aware of the passage of time and how little there is left of it (even if I live to be 100+, which I definitely plan on doing). I have visited only two of the places referenced in this book, and I found Schultz's descriptions to be accurate and pleasing. After reading this book, I plan to visit at least a dozen more, excluding the museums and old buildings. I'm more of an outdoors and scenery type.

And if you find yourself in need of a travel companion, I suggest Baby Boomer Bachelorette: How to Have S** At Least Once More Before You Die - AT LEAST being the operative phrase here. It's a funny and fast read, with lots of how-to info on internet dating.

When I first became aware of the New York Times Best selling book, "1,000 Places to See Before You Die", I immediately thought: "So much to do - so little time!" And, now they want me to add "1,000 places" to my already lengthy list of "things" I seriously intend on doing before time runs out! Impossible!

However, my curiosity took over when I read the small print "On and off the Beaten Track", because I am truly an "off the beaten track" kind of adventurer.

So, after venturing into the book, I soon formulated a completely different mindset. First of all, I realized that I had already seen some, if only a few, of the 1,000 places mentioned. Then, I realized that this was not an assignment but that I could simply pick and choose from a listing of 1,000 places, some of which would be of most interest to me. Of course, no two people share exactly the same interests in destinations; however, this book magnificently paints a picture of what one can expect if one should intend to visit, for example: the Heidelberg Castle in Germany or the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam or the Oldest Tourist Route in Europe - The way to the Cathedral of Santiago De Compostela in northern Spain or even New York City. Add to this small listing another 995 world destinations.

I found this book absolutely fascinating because it took on the mantle of being my personal guide to many, many, many places I may have heard about but have never seen and may never actually visit. It became my destination encyclopedia and most certainly increased my knowledge of world geography many fold.

Even to a person who won't or can't travel, this book will provide a wealth of information about 1,000 diverse, interesting, amazing and truly unique world destinations. .

Along with my collection of National Geographic magazines, I plan to keep "1,000 Places to See Before You Die" handy as a mandatory reference book before I embark on another adventure, be it domestic or overseas. By doing so, I know I will ensure that I won't be overlooking an important highlight just waiting for me right in the vicinity of my travels.
