Summary: A travel book meant for the not so rich and famous
Review: This is the ideal travel guide for regular people. Unlike other guides, it has lots of pictures (almost every page), detailed maps for the entire island, and candid reviews for beaches, parks, restaurants, condos, resorts, and out-of-the-way places.Wizard Pub's companion Web site to the book is an additional enhancement -- it helps to identify truly ocean-front properties (by providing aerial shots of the property), along with Web links to the property manager(s). We used Wizard Pub's guide for our Maui trip 2 years ago and found it to be an asset in helping us find the real Maui. We look forward to using this guide for our August 2002 trip to the Big Island.

Summary: All my guests get a copy
Review: My husband and I bought a condo to rent out on the Big Island, in Kona. On the way home from the "purchase trip," I found a copy of this book at an airport newsstand. I bought it, read it on the plane ride home, and was so impressed that I immediately ordered several copies to send with our clients that rent our condo. Thanks for the precise advice!

Summary: Without a doubt, the best!
Review: After our visit to the Big Island in Jan '02, we planned another trip for Apr '02. Because we felt we had missed a lot, we searched Amazon for guide books and found "Hawaii, The Big Island Revealed" by Doughty & Friedman. It was amazing! Just to begin with, one of their suggestions about where to buy gas paid for the book! Twice!! A lot of their comments confirmed our feelings from the first trip so we knew they had great insight. After that, as we toured and decided on places to eat, places to visit, we used their guide and they never failed us! While driving down Hiway 11 and WE would look up places in the book to see what they said. It was a lot more than a guide book on shops and dining, but a guide to knowledge about the island and its hidden secret spots. I can recommend this book for even the most knowledgeable locals! I know you will enjoy it!!

Summary: Truly the ultimate!!!!!
Review: Just returned from the Big Island, spending 9 days there. We had the greatest time because of this book. We followed the routes and turnoffs that were recommended. We were in constant awe. Some of the prices in the restaurant guide have significantly changed since the book's publication, so beware. My recommendation is to definitely get a 4WD vehicle when in the Big Island. Don't be afraid to drive Saddle Road. We drove roads that were much worse than Saddle, yet they would not have violated any car rental agreement. Before we left, people had asked me why we chose to go to the Big Island when all you see is lava. We had 8 full non-stop days of fun with this book. Even the lava was interesting with this book after 9 days of looking at it.

Review: Overwhelmed with the number of Hawaii travel guides available in bookstores, I decided to purchase this book based on the praise it received from other buyers - a smart decision. This is an excellent book which I just can't say enough good about. I consulted it repeatedly during my first 7-day visit to the Big Island. Every recommendation I followed, from the best beaches and snorkeling spots, to where to buy a frosty cold mug of beer, was right on the mark. The book is clear, concise, well organized, and full of suggestions and tips concerning virtually every aspect of vacationing on this island. If you're looking for a guide book on the Big Island, this is the one to buy.

Review: This is one of the best guidebooks I've ever used. My wife and I used it constantly on our trip to the Big Island in Jan 02. We found detailed information on restaurants, trails, sights, and places, along with accurate directions. The book is written in a breezy and humorous style, making it entertaining as well as useful.

Review: I have been to the "Big Island" twice and I can't believe how much I missed. If I am fortunate enough to return there some day, I will have this book with me at all times. The attention to detail was excellent, especially using the mile marker system to let people know exactly how to get somewhere. Descriptions were so clear, it was easy to visualize how something must look.
I can't wait to go back and take this book with me.

Review: This is THE book to use for your trip to the Big Island of Hawaii. I would not even think of going there without this one. The places they take you are so awesome. They tell you everything there is to know like where the best beaches are, the best hotels to stay at and the best places to eat. There is so much information packed into this book. Get it and your trip to the Big Island will be unbelieveable. After you get this book you will need to bring more film because of all of the fantastic places you will be visiting.

Summary: Excellent Tour Guide!!
Review: I just returned from my Big Island vacation. I wouldn't have been able to do as much and cater my itinerary to my "dream trip" without this book. The maps were so easy to use and the information was incredible. The only suggestion that I had is provide more input for the sites along the Chain of Craters road and provide more information on businesses within Waikoloa Village. Excellent!
