Summary: Inside Passage -- Captivating!!!!!
Review: A wonderful voyage in mother nature's womb, evoking feelings of awe, and revere at the colossal universe, inhaling the powerful imagery of wilderness through Michael.

Summary: To visit Alaska, First read this great book!
Review: After reading Inside Passage,I felt my soul was baptized by the beauty of Alaska and the author Michael Modzelewski was the minister who administered the baptismal ceremony for many poor polluted souls. My outlook of life has been changed since then. Every day and every minute I live is full of beauty and purity like Alaska's blue sky. I would like to live in inside Passage every summer!

Summary: Experience life in the wilderness!
Review: At first glance, Michael Modzelewski's book appears to be an account of his experience in the pristine and unforgiving wilderness of a remote island. Upon deeper look, we find that not only does he share with us the spirit of adventure, but even more, he shares an adventure of the spirit. Michael's fresh, open approach to his environment provides us with a new awareness of nature, an awareness of its pure mindfulness and the danger that civilization imposes on it. We learn that to commune with the spirit of the earth and sky is to develop a sense of humble appreciation for its energy, intelligence, and beauty. Told with a sense of humor at times and with awe always, this story reveals the author's reverence for all life and his growing spirituality. He enthusiastically and tenderly paints for us a picture with words; a picture even more meaningful to us than one on canvas, as each of us has the opportunity to use those words to paint our personal adventure.

Summary: BRILLIANT SATORI
Review: Buddhists and people living close to Nature often have the same philosophy of being in the moment and trying to extinguish the narrow self to let the whole world in. In INSIDE PASSAGE Michael Modzelewski is much like a Zen student with Nature his teacher. This book is filled with moments of brilliant satori or enlightenment.

Summary: Buy Two
Review: Buy two of these books because when you're done reading, you're immediately going to want to share this book with others, but won't be willing to give your copy away. I had an opportunity to hear Michael speak first and his passion is as evident in his speech as it is in his written words.

Summary: disappointing: first people who speak like 'heap-big injuns'
Review: Having visited the exact place described in the book twice in the last five years to see the resident orcas, I found myself asking why the author would exaggerate distances and descriptions so wildly. Certainly, the place is stunning in its beauty, but it felt as if he needed to make his experiences there so over-dramatic that it turned me off....way off.

Summary: Man and Nature at its Best
Review: I so enjoyed Mr. Modzelewski's sojourn in the wilderness that I didn't want the book to end. I savored every word. This is a wonderful telling about wildlife, harmony, isolation, great courage, and deep peace. I am now inspired to spend far more time out in nature, a place that the author demonstrates is our true home that brings out the best in us. I eagerly look forward to every book Mr. Modzelewski writes for there is such sensitivity in such a strong man. A rare combination that makes for inspirational reading.

Summary: AS GOOD AS BEING THERE
Review: I took a cruise with girlfriends through the Inside Passage to Alaska and our travel agent recommended that we all read this book along the way. I've often heard the expression that a book or other art form is "the next best thing to being there." But in all honesty, Michael's INSIDE PASSAGE is just as good as being there and on some pages even better than the real thing. What a wild man and yet such a sensitive poet. He uses words like an inspired lover!

Summary: Next Best Thing To Being There
Review: I used to work on a salmon fishing boat in the British Columbia-Alaska Inside Passage for four summers. Michael Modzelewski's book is the "real-deal" -- exactly like it is up there. If you're going to spend any time traveling through this amazing region or want to go there 'arm-chair'-- this is the book to read!
