Summary: Spiritual Magic from a Magical Man.
Review: Inside Passage is a book for the ages. An awe-inspiring piece of work that has left me both breathless and wanting more. Each image is created with such care and heart, the spirit of a "warrior" and the heart of a "man" shines through in each page. Inside Passage will leave an idelible mark on both the reader and the readers soul. A must read for anybody who has ever had a dream or a person seeking refuge in the majestic landscape of the Alaskan wilds. Modzleweski presents a totally-balanced account. Unlike many authors who've left the city for the wilds he doesn't "deify" Native Americans. He describes each Kwakiutl he meets as an individual with different life-styles, education-levels, and manners of speaking. Inside Passage brings out the raw and harsh natural laws man must live by in the wilderness, but intertwined within that plot is a story of unharnessed adventure and a life worth living. Having visited the Inside Passage the past two summers, I can say that the author brought the area totally alive! In the economical and passionate-style of a poet, Modzelewski goes far-beneath the surface of an awesome place. Most of all, he takes the reader on a spiritual VisionQuest-where as he describes it:"The Inside Passage is real dream country. Even on land you are moved. The tides that carry the great whales move the bulk of your thoughts just as effortlessly. On the islands, the surrounding sea enters your subconcious, creating a rippling mirror that reflects reality from many perspectives. There is no concrete to fix attitudes, harden dreams. The world around you constantly flows in many levels, swirling deep fathoms into you, loosening holdfasts and safeguards, stirring up sediment, provoking protean change." Reading this book changed my life. Now I see the world through un-biased eyes. Life is a challenge and a blessing, I accept it with passion and un-dying gratitude. Mr. Modzelewski has opened my eyes to a world I never knew existed, and for that I am forever en-debted to him. This book will change you; I guarantee it!

Review: INSIDE PASSAGE: A critique

Bought this BOOK on a Princess Alaskan Cruise last summer.Seemed I should enjoy even more now that I had cruised the Inside Passage and had attended Mr. Modzelewski's conferences on the ship.

Well I sure did! So powerful! A pure delight!!The author describes with exquisite vocabulary, beautiful metaphores, much precision and detail as well as good humor his connection with NATURE in that most beautiful western part of MY country.

Attaining higher levels of consciousness/awareness/connection/happiness comes from within oneself. Although to the outside world it often seems easy, romantic, mystical, the quest for true connection/Spirituality is often a long, arduous, lonely and crooked road , all steep uphill-downhill, full of thorns, rocks, you name it, it's on that road, but the summit is OUTSTANDING AND WELL WORTH THE TRIP. Solitude makes one need to face oneself: solid learning/analysis/growth. Nature through a difficult path helps us find ourselves if we open all our doors/channels, adjust our eyes with different lenses, not only bi-focals but multi-focals and are always ready to receive the guests that arrive so unexpectedly from every direction. As the author says so well NATURE IS ART AND BEAUTY! I fully agree! If only man knew! Man is shaped by Nature if he can blend in with it's Spirits! We who think ourselves so superior to all that PRODIGIOUS SHOW!

This book is like poetry, beautifully written. The author must have been inspired by Calliope , the Muse of Poetry and Eloquence.

A cherished treasure!!

Summary: Unlimited Miracles
Review: It is difficult to put the way that Inside Passage makes you feel into words. Upon coming home after my first trip to Alaska, I missed her terribly. I longed for the serenity she gave to me. However, all I had to do to fill that void was to pick up Michael's book and I was instantly transported back to that heavenly place. With his eloquent words he breaths life into the landscape and gives the animals their voice. Michael has opened himself up to the possibility of unlimited miracles and through this book he will inspire you to try and find those miracles in each and every day. Inside Passage is not just a journey through Alaska. It is a journey through the "inside passages" of your very soul!

Summary: Michael Crusoe
Review: Michael Modzelewski is transparent in INSIDE PASSAGE. The northern wilderness glows and shows through him, as he give shape to nature with amazing words. I've read this book 4 times now and each time I am dazzled by his heartfelt experiences.

Summary: Incredible Adventure
Review: Michael Modzelewski says it all near the end of this fantastic work: "We live in an age of lesser men. Something essential in us has atrophied. . ." That something essential is our connection to nature and daily adventure that has been eradicated by rampant consumerism and the dominance of television and a hopped-up half-second attention span. "Inside Passage" shows another way, when life is so richly perceived directly through the senses. A Master Sensualist at work here!

Summary: Inside Passge
Review: Michael Modzelewski writes as a poet as he describes his experiences living on an isolated island in the Inside Passage. His words were not simply slapped on the page. He selects from his palette of words and strokes them on the canvas in a most masterful and inspiring manner. One must read not only for the entertaining content but also for the thrill of art. Seldom does one observe such care and "word smithing" sustained page after page. Congratulations Michael!

Summary: Beyond Human
Review: Michael Modzelewski writes like a wild animal. If the beasts could speak it wouldn't come out much different than how Michael describes them. The author knows no limits -- extending into and giving shape to all animate matter in super insightful poetic prose.
