Summary: So sue me
Review: I like this book. I found it without the help of any review negative or positive. I have always loved romance novels where East meets West. Tai Pan & Shogun are two of my favorites. I have not finished the book yet(50 pages more).oops maybe I shouldn't have written that! I may be disappointed with the ending but, not with the content of the book.

Summary: Very disappointing
Review: I usually enjoy books by this author however this book was very difficult to get through. I was unable to relate to or even like the characters; circumstances seemed contrived and implausible. I really dislike the ending.

Summary: Below Par
Review: My favorite collection of books consist of Judith Michael, Katherine Stone, and Mary Higgins Clark. However, this book, "Certain Smile" would certainly not be one of those favorites. I usually re-read my favorite books no less than once a year, I struggled through this book the first time, let alone a second time. I believe the plot to be a little far fetched, without any plausibility. Who would do all these things with a stranger in a foreign country that the lead character does? Most of the books by Judith Michael are page turners for me, but this one is a putter-downer. I expect more from this writing team than this book, especially when we are all anxiously awaiting and anticipating each one. The ending was VERY disappointing. While not all books can have happy perfect endings (but why not?), this one really needed it to make up for the storyline. I'll of course buy the next Judith Michael book, but now, my expectations are lower, and perhaps, I'll read it at my library before making the purchase.

Summary: Certainly irritating
Review: I usually like this writing team, really enjoyed An Act of Love, but this one had such irritating characters. It's possibly because I'm Chinese that I found the characters so stereotyped, but the authors went out of their way to make the characters one-dimensional. And a dimension I could do without. I didn't make it farther than the first 5 chapters. . .

Summary: A Certain Bore
Review: I've always enjoyed Judith Michael much more than other currently popular novelists, but not this time! These characters are too annoying to bother with. I started skimming after about 20 pages and then took it back to the library. Thank goodness I didn't buy it.

Summary: YAAAAAWNNNNNNN
Review: I don't know what they were thinking when they wrote this book. I love the in depth research of China but if I wanted a book on travel I would have bought one. I think that their other books such as Deceptions were MUCH better than this! It needed more spice and intrigue rather than the in depth dialogue on Chinese dumplings.

Summary: Not up to the usual standard.
Review: "A Certain Smile" was an interesting book but not as good as some of the previous books by these authors. I did enjoy the food descriptions throughout the book, even though other readers could not stand them. I wish the ending had been a little more complex and workable. I enjoyed the characters of Miranda and Li, however, I could not stand Sheng. Miranda's children should have been in the picture a lot more than they were.

Summary: Incredibily disappointing ending!
Review: Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book very intelligent book...But, the ending I find was truly disturbing. Why end such an "intense love"? Miranda and Li's relationship could have easily overcome and continued, regardless of family, government, geography, and so-called nationality. I found myself feeling betrayed and unable to believe that such an ending is necessary or believable, if their relationship was of such intensity...truly disappointed with the forced ending.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: An easy book to put down.
Review: Also an avid fan of this writing team, this book doesn't compare. It's took me 2 weeks to get to chapter 7...an easy book to walk away from. There is monotonous detail without depth, potentially interesting characters who are superficially developed and a transparent story line. I don't know how this product slipped past Judith & Michael's own quality control.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Not up to their usual standards!!!
Review: I struggled through the first 150 pages since the book bogged down with food descriptions and was very slow moving. It did get a little better the second half. The ending was to be expected. I enjoyed their first books. You couldn't put them down. You CAN put this one down!!
