Summary: Update on my previous review for ACDSee 4.0
Review: ...I want to let potential buyers know five things.

First, right now on Amazon.com ACDSee Power Pack 4.0 (which has the ACDSee 4.0 image viewer and two other programs) is priced at [current price]and is actually cheaper than the ACDSee 4.0 program purchased alone which is priced at [current price]. Needless to say, the ACDSee Powerpack is the better buy. (The two other programs in the ACDSee Power Pack are ACD Foto Canvas, a photo editing program which I think is good; and ACD Foto Angelo, a program for creating slide shows and screen savers which I have looked at but not yet used.)

Second, on October 5, 2002 ACDSee released ACDSee 5.0. On the ACDSee website this sells for [current price]. The ACDSee 5.0 Powerpack sells for [current price]. These are prices for downloads and not for the programs on CDs.

Third, if history is any guide, ultimately Amazon.com will sell these upgraded versions and they will be cheaper at Amazon.com than at the ACDsee website. They will also be on CDs. Thank you Amazon.com!!!

Fourth, one has the option now of buying the ACDSee Power Pack 4.0 on CD from Amazon.com and upgrading to version 5.0 on the ACDSee website through an Internet download. (There is a fee involved for the upgrade.)

Fifth, ACDSee is a great program. I have already written a lengthy review for ACDSee 4.0 and there is no need for me to repeat the details here.

Summary: Disappointing
Review: ACDSee has a nice mix of funtions but it also has some problems.

For me the biggest draw back is that it stops painting the thumbnails after I've been working for a while. Granted, I work with a lot of images (many thousands) but they claim it should handle it. Stopping and restarting the program gets it working again, but only for a while - and who doesn't love doing that!?. Support has been no help.

Printing is weak - probably because they want to sell you an add on component. My advice would be to look elsewhere.

Summary: NO CUSTOMER support
Review: I had trouble with the registration system of the ACDSee ver 4.0.
You cannot "e-mail" them without the registration number.
I placed a call to the ACDSYSTEMS.
I NEVER received a reply.
After 3 hours on my own I figured out the registration problem.
I was able to get the program loaded into the computer.

I had trouble using the REDEYE remover.
I sent them an e-mail asking for help.
I never received a reply.

I was able to organize some folders and it looked like it was going to be "OK" but:
Then program STOPPED working. Just would not respond.
Again I sent an e-mail asking for help.
I never received a reply.

Bottom line, NO CUSTOMER support.

I would NOT recommend this product based on the POOR customer relations.

I am using Win 98 O/S

Summary: A Great Product!
Review: I have taken nearly 4000 photos with my digital camera. I've had a really hard time viewing them on my old (300MHz) computer. Searching to find a picture I wanted was very difficult and time consuming.

Then, I got ACDSee 4.0. It's spectacular!! It quickly shows me all of the images in my directory. When I load new pictures from my camera, I can page through each one very quickly. It displays each image in well under a second - even on my old computer! It is so much easier to view and find the pictures I want now, and I never thought I'd see this kind of performance without buying a new, faster computer.

It also comes with a simple photo editor. I mostly just use the standard "fix it" feature on it. It adjusts the pictures very well to fix any exposure, color or lighting problems - much better than the Adobe Photodeluxe that came with my digital camera.

I had no problem at all with installation or use, so I never had to call for customer support.

Summary: Version 4.02 is stable and good
Review: I initally upgraded from Acdsee 3.1 SR1 to 4.0, and like a lot of people had stability problems, but 4.02 has proved very stable.
I prefer Acdsee to ThumbsPlus or Compupic Pro.
E-mailing via Acdsee is simple - I love it. Thumbnails in Acdsee also seem to be much clearer than in the competing products I tried.
I also like the way I can click on a thumbnail image and choose the image editor I want to automatically open it in - Photoshop/PaintShop etc.
Acdsee version 5 I hear will be available from the beginning of October 2002.

Summary: Not good
Review: I purchased this product for a windows 98 system and was unable to get it to run. I consider myself quite knowledgeable in this area.
Customer support is unresponsive and said I needed version 4.1.They did not respond as to what I was supposed to do next and as a result I have since returned the product to Amazon.I understand earlier versions are supposed to be quite good but at least for my operating system it did not work.
