Summary: What is the need for having this junk software?
Review: I purchased this software and attempted to install it. It installed easily and with no initial problems. After setting up all the fine tuning, I rebooted the computer. Upon the reboot, the computer froze, so I had to manually shut down. After restarting the computer, I received the SCANDISK tool to clean up the errors on the drive. The major problem here is that the ScanDisk does not finish, but keeps restarting. The only way to get to my homepage was to cancel the scandisk. When I manually start the scandisk, I get the same problem, ScanDisk does not finish. I do everything, shut the PC Cillin down and exit it out, do the control alt del, but to no help. I uninstalled it, and then tried the scan disk, and WOW, it works fine and quickly! I reinstall PC cillin after deleting all the old files, and WOW,,,it restarts the scandisk all over like I explained before!!. .. I try emailing TECH support but get the same answer as I already knew.. to shut down via the small icon prior to using scandisk. I sent 3 emails with different info ref the problem, but I receive back a simple 2 line answer...shut down via the small icon!..I then try calling tech support in the pm hours...on hold for approx 45 min,, then I hang up.. I call the next morning and I get ahold of someone with 5 minutes...GREAT!.. I explain the problem and also what I have done so far.. The tech's answer was that PC Cillin Internet Security 2004 has a major problem..It has been documented by the TECH support that it will not work with ScanDisk WHILE installed. I am using V-Com SystemSuite 5 and the ScanDisk does not work for that one either or the Microsoft's scandisk tool.

The Tech's final answer was you can have either one or the other, but not both working on you computer at the same time. There is no immediate fix for this problem.

Great, now I have software that can not be used. PC Cillin Internet Security will no longer be purchased by me.

Summary: Enjoy aggravation? You'll love this!
Review: I had been using Norton's Internet Security 2003, and was more or less happy with its performance. Because I don't have a credit card, I can't renew my subscriptions online, so I thought I would buy the 2004 upgrade. But the poor reviews...
I based my decision to purchase Trend Micro's PC-cillin on the strength of the reviews it received at Amazon.com. I'm sorry to say that my experiences with this software fell well short of my expectations.
The installation went smoothly enough, and within thirty minutes, I received a message stating that PC-cillin had found a virus. I figured this is great, it's protecting my system. But when I attempted to move on to quarantine the virus, PC-cillin crashed and took my whole system down with it.
I rebooted, and discovered a number of shortcut icons on my desktop that had never been there before. At first I thought they were applications related to the Trend Micro software, but a little experimenting quickly confirmed that PC-cillin had allowed the installation of a number of programs off of the Internet that I never authorized. One of those was a search bar that proved particularly troublesome because it would crash before it could initialize and lock my system up.
I emailed Trend Micro about the problem and never received a response.
Ultimately, these problems forced me to revert my hard drive to a time before PC-cillin's installation. Aside from the cost in aggravation, I also lost a day of productive work as a result of this fiasco.
Given the product's exceedingly poor performance, and Trend Micro's failure to stand by its product, I would avoid this application. By the grace of my brother's generosity and his bulletproof credit rating, I renewed my subscription to Norton Internet Security 2003 and haven't had any problems since.

Review: I actually have the 2003 version, but have found through experience, that when you need support, Trend Micro responds.

Summary: PC-cillin outshines the rest - the real terminator !
Review: PC-cillin has performed an amazing virus surgery on my computer that Norton Anti-virus and the

others could not do. PC-cillin got rid of the most deadly virus immediately after it was installed

on my computer, and without even waiting to update its anti-virus database - simply amazing!

For about six months my computer was getting sluggish. I suspected it was troubled by virus but,

although I updated my Norton Anti-Virus everyday and scanned the entire computer many times over,

Norton declared that it found no virus.

Then, one day I started using the Bluetooth wireless dial-up modem kit, but the internet connection

got disconnected repeatedly. Each time a note would appear on the screen warning that the computer

would restart in 60 seconds. I finally contacted the Zoom modem tech support, and the technician

immediately identified the problem; my computer was plagued by the Blaster.Worm virus. Now, I was

prepared to forgo using the bluetooth gadgets, but to be plagued by the deadly Blaster.Worm got me

very concerned.

I re-installed Norton, updated it, and rescanned the entire computer many times, thinking that with

this fine-tooth comb scanning, NAV might get rid of the Blaster.Worm. Not only Norton Anti Virus

couldn't do anything, but Norton publish a big splash on the website with a long lecture on how

deadly the Blaster.Worm is. Also, from then on, every time I scanned, a Norton note would appear

on my screen, proclaiming that:

1. It cannot delete the Blaster
2. It cannot quarantine it.
3. It cannot repair it.

Now, what use is an anti-virus software that boasts of its superiority but is unable to help you

when you need help desparately?

I also tried two other anti-virus software but to no avail.

Then, thanks to Amazon for this customer review feature, I chanced upon this web page on PC-cillin

and read some encouraging reviews.

I immediately ordered the PC-cilling from Amazon, and it arrived at my door step in less than 48

hours! The amazing Amazon! I had opted for free delivery, which was estimated at 7 days, but the

quick free delivery was a pleasant surprise.

PC-cillin detected and killed the Blaster.Worm plus a few other viruses the moment it was

installed. Obviously, I am now a new ardent convert to PC-cillin, and I want to thank the users

who took time to share their experience by writing their reviews on this Amazon review page.

PC-cillin - keep up the good work!

Amazon, your efficiency is simply amazing.

Summary: False Sense of Security
Review: This product was advertised as providing anti-virus and firewall functionality. It did provide Trend Anti-Virus functionality, which I respect and have previously recommended to friends. It does not, however, provide competent firewall functionality. After installing the product, my other computer (running Norton AV and ZoneAlarm firewall) started immediately complaining about receiving network traffic from the PC-Cillin machine. I have not had this problem before using PC-Cillin and having since uninstalled PC-Cillin, am no longer experiencing this problem. I've experimented with a lot of firewall software over the past several years (ZoneAlarm, Tiny, Tiny Professional, Sygate) and never seen similar behavior. This product may be a good price and may be easy to install, but I'm taking my money elsewhere.

Summary: The straight up from a loyal Norton user
Review: After reading all of the issues with NIS 2004, I decided to look around. After a little searching, this program caught my eye and I decided to try it.

My uninstall of NIS 2003 went flawless in WinXP and the install of this trial program was smooth. Upon the called for re-boot, I noticed something right away...My system loaded MUCH faster. I'm talking a significant boost here folks. A quick peek at my memory tracker, and sure enough, tons o' memory left after Pc-Cillin has fully loaded.

So I took my new program through all of the paces, (Shields-Up! DSL report security testing, Symantec security testing) and it passed most of the tests without much of a problem.

Hmm...I thought, this is a slick little program with not much of a memory footprint. Could I have found the ultimate security tool? Unfortunately, no. But it is good enough to try it for a year (the trial version does not let you update anything, hence, you are using 4 month old virus definitions, firewall rules, etc).

Compared straight up with Norton, here are my thoughts:

Virus protection: Have yet to really have any issues with Norton or Pc-cillin. Pc-cillin scanned my entire system 10 minutes faster than Norton.

Firewall: Both appeared to stop the necessary attacks at all of the major website testing pages.

Customization:

This is where Pc-cillin REALLY suffers. With NIS, you can customize how every website you visit is handled: custom cookie handling, active-x, referrer page handling, etc. Not with Pc-cillin. Pc-cillin also does not offer built in ad blocking or pop-up stopping. That is kind of annoying too. NIS did.

For the parents out there, this is CRITICAL. NIS updated restricted web-sites automatically into the program. Pc-cillin REQUIRES the user to manually input each website you don't want shown. Are you kidding me?! For me, that is a real disappointment. New pages are added every day and there is simply no way for any parent to stay on top of it. A simple mistype from your child can result in some embarrassing, if not disgusting results. With NIS, you were pretty well covered in the parental control arena.

So, overall I would call it a wash. Pc-cillin has less memory usage, but the overall suite of products is lacking compared to NIS. Which is probably why the load time is faster with Pc-cillin. NIS took too much memory but it came with everything you needed.

I will try this for a year since the Symantec people wanted $30 for another year and their support has really fallen off.

Summary: Used to be a big diehard Norton Anti-Virus fan!
Review: I will be very brief in my review. When folks used to ask me about anti-virus software I would tell them to go with Norton without hesitation. Times have changed! Norton no longer provides respectable support for their products. 2004 Norton Antivirus is pure 100% junk with a company that no longer cares about support. Trend Micro, however, offers support...true support for their products. They WILL be the "Norton" of the future and are rapidly gaining a solid reputation. A solid product for sure. Any questions can easily be researched or answered by support. Look at the reviews for this product and then review Norton's antivirus product...WOW! Nothing is perfect, but this is close. Enjoy!

Summary: Big Mistake I Think?
Review: I purchased the product and download it. It actually was very easy to install and use for the most part. The only problems I had was my e-mails kept timing out when sending and the other issue was I couldn't do updates. I kept getting an error (An error occured while connecting to the internet. Please make sure your internet connection is properly functioning & try again.)and this prevents me from updating. At this point I have had to un-install it on my computer. Technical Support could not figure out my problem. Until I send them info from my computer they can't help. Beware of this product!!!

Summary: Excellent Product
Review: This is an excellent product. My computer had been infected with a virus that was not caught by my Norton's antivirus software. I purchased PC-cillin hoping that it would isolate the virus and repair the damage. It did all that I had hoped! This is well worth the price.

Summary: A complete professional package
Review: I will recommend this and any products coming from Trend Micro. What do I like of them? There are self maintenance, wish means you don't have to baby sit the program. The program will check for upgrades automatically and keep up to date. I believe that is the best feature of their packages.
