Summary: Problems and Headaches
Review: I purchased McAfee Virus Scan a few months ago, and I have had computer problems ever since. A word to the wise, DO NOT install this product.

Summary: ZERO STARS
Review: On Windows 98 systems, McAfee VirusScan Home Edition doesn't work. It causes IE to crash. It causes the system (Task Monitor) to freeze. However, the system worked fine after I uninstalled VirusScan.

In my opinion VirusScan provides no compensating value for the money spent on it.

Summary: Bad Product. Bogus Rebate.
Review: Don't buy McAfee ever. At least I won't. 1000 words may not be enough for a review. Bad product. You need to manually uninstall previous versions, otherwise God help you. 1 year expiration is so well enforced that it can cause your O/S to go bad, I had to reinstall my Win2K. And updates to McAfee products are more frequent than even Microsoft. And if you have a dialup, don't even think McAfee, imagine downloading 10-13M files every 15 days. And DAT files are updated in bunches of 30-40. Firewall is so good that even if you ask it to remember some program to allow, it still asks you, very loyal firewall really. And try updating all components at the same time, and watch the fun of rebooting.
Even if you can live with all this, their REBATE is BOGUS. Either McAfee cheats or Amazon is lying re the rebate. I sent the older version CD as proof of upgrade, and I sent the only UPC on my box. It seems that is still not enough. McAfee seems to have an old habit of rejecting rebates.

Summary: Bad Product. But REBATE SUCKS...
Review: There are many bad things about McAfee products which cannot be described within these 1000 words. Their earlier version, due to expiration after an year, so badly destroyed my O/S, that I had to reinstall the O/S. You cannot upgrade, unless you manually unintsall the older version. And, their new releases are more frequent than even Microsoft. Do not buy McAfee if you have dialup, imagine 13M download every 2 weeks. Their DAT releases have 40 odd files !!!

Summary: NO STARS! Totally disatisfied and frustrated!
Review: I recently purchased this product. After 8 hours on the phone with a variety of technicians I was ready to pull my hair out. I was never able to successfully download this program. The technicians were conveniently warning me that they were having system challenges...then they would conveniently drop me!! I wouldn't advise purchase of this product. I wish I had read all the reviews before trying. I'm trying to get my money back...we'll see.

Summary: Don't count on any rebates
Review: The product is ok. However, don't plan on receiving any promised rebates. They just don't happen as they find different reasons not to comply. The sad part is that I would have bought the product no matter if a rebate was included or not - its just that they offer it, and never pay off.

Summary: Very disappointed
Review: Their RuLaunch update product constantly crashes. I have never been able to update the virus definitions with it. Online support is confusing and useless. Be prepared to update the definitions manually.

Summary: Need to be a PC tech to install
Review: I just purchased this item over the weekend and it took me over 10 hours to install it on my system. That's right, 10 HOURS, most of that time was spent with tech support and I use that word loosely. If you have an older version you have to do a complete uninstall and you may have to do a manual unistall and watch out for your registry files, before you even begin to start thinking about updating. After installing the software I could not access the internet so I had to uninstall it just to get online to chat support person or I could spend $... a minute for advice over the phone in addition to long distance charges, that's right no toll free number. after trying to install the upgade 7 times with various instructions that was sure to solve my problem the each time. I finally got it installed and running. McAfee really has a customer service problem with their techs mine kept telling me to do the same thing over and over. The only reason it is on my system is because we all know how hard it is to return software. It may be a great product at stopping viruses but if you buy it, have a tech install it. It will save you a lot of headaches.

Summary: Software OK, but don't count on the rebate!
Review: I purchased this s/w ahead of competiotors because of the available rebate. Wish I had not bothered! terms are not clear and no that easy to satisfy. Before you get fooled read the terms very carefuly and be prepared to wait a long time!

Summary: No rebate
Review: When I received my software I learned that the promised rebate had expires 4-15-2003. THIS IS JULY. It required a lot of updating. I don't mind that, but I think it was a bummer deal.
You should know when these rebates expire before you say it is FREE plus shipping
