Summary: THIS IS NOT WHAT IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE
Review: Bought this video for my toddler granddaughter who loves music and can sit through a ballet on T.V. I was excited about it and could not wait to get it. This is NOT the ballet "The Nutcracker" which is what it leads you to believe...and is what I thought I was buying. It is a running story with very little music and dance...mostly talk...and not very well done. She did not watch it for a second and truthfully...neither could I. I really don't know who..or what age... it would appeal to...if anyone at all. It should not be advertised in a way that leads you to believe you will be watching a ballet. I tried to return it the very next day to ToysRus and they would not take it back. As it is actually falsely advertised they should have. I am not sure what they had in mind when they made this video but in fact it is awful.

Summary: Too scary
Review: I thought this video was too scary and the scary mice parts in the middle outweighed the dancing and music at the beginning and end. I started it for my 4-yr old granddaughter, who loves Barbie and dancing, left the room, and came back to a terrified child cowering behind the couch. I stayed with her while I fast-forwarded to see what else was coming, and it was still too much for her. I think this would also frighten her 5-yr old sister. This video should not be seen by children without an entire viewing by an adult prior to showing it.

Summary: Enjoyable even for an adult
Review: I wasn't expecting much from this movie (as a grown man) but I checked it out for the sake of seeing animated ballet dancing, and also because I was very amused by Barbies' appearance in Toy Story 2. I was pleasantly surprised the movie has a decent and very human story. That, in combination with traditional nutcracker music and dance sequences made this an enjoyable movie.

The animation is slightly inferior to some other recent animations (e.g. Shrek). Some people look kinda wooden. Despite this, it is good enough to capture the beauty of ballet dancing.

In the bonus section there is an inspiration video about several young ballet students. Too bad there is no "making of". It would be very interesting to see how they do the motion capture of the dance sequences and to actually see some of the human dancers. There is also no "outtakes" (actors goofs).

The DVD has no subtitle but it has closed caption. User can choose wide screen or full screen mode.

Summary: What were they thinking?
Review: This movie is unneccesarily frightening. There are whole segments that have nothing to do with the Nutcracker. There is very little dancing and alot of fighting and running away from very scary villans. My daughters were very afraid of the rock monster and the mouse king, they don't want to see it again. I beleive that this movie falls into the category of lets scare the hell out of the kids. This movie is nothing like the Nutcracker that one usually thinks of, it is completely altered and not very entertaining, unless you like your kids to have nightmares.

Summary: Not what I expected....
Review: Well, it wasn't bad. It had little to do with the classic Nutcracker story I was expecting. However, the animated dances were quite good. And, my daughter really likes it (she's 4 and a barbie fan) Of course, now I will spend a fortune on Nutcracker Barbie and Ken and Marzipan for Christmas....
Adults will probably find it silly, but little girls will love this story of Barbie as Clara. My daughter was a little fearful of the Mouse King at first, but since I explained to her that his voice was just the same guy who did Forte the evil pipe organ in Beauty and the Beast enchanted Christmas (She wouldn't have gotten the Rocky Horror or Pennywise references, but you might-*LOL*) she was OK with it. If you have a young daughter who is a Barbie Fan or a Princess Fan or a ballet fan, this is worth the buy.

Summary: BARBIE AND KEN MAKE IMPRESSIVE ROLE MODELS!
Review: BARBIE IN THE NUTCRAKER IS SIMPLY A MUST-OWN! It is very enjoyable from start to finish and will captivate any age or sex if he/she will just sit down, relax and watch it. A great family movie for the holidays. My daughter is only three and she rarely sits still to watch a movie; however, with Barbie as the main character, along with the lovely fairies dancing and singing, the beautiful pink horse Marzipan, and yes, even the evil bat and Mouse King [Tim Curry's translation/voice is awesome,] she actually lies down and watches it ALL!

WHAT I WANT TO EMPHASIZE THE MOST IS THE HEART IN THIS MOVIE. It is very strong, especially displayed by Barbie and the Nutcracker. I am completely impressed with both of them. They are wonderful role models for our children. You will see the "heart" and you will feel the goodness, through them. It is truly magical. Barbie represents in the kind of young lady we, as parents, want our daughters to grow up as--kind, soft-spoken, sincere, intelligent, and strong. This movie isn't just for girls, brothers will surely enjoy it as well and hopefully observe the Nutcracker's strength, demeanor and chivalry and learn a few things as well.

BARBIE IN THE NUTCRACKER IS THE SPECIAL, RARE KIND OF MOVIE THAT REMINDS ME WE LIVE IN A TRULY MAGICAL WORLD WHERE ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE. DREAMS CAN COME TRUE. SO GO AFTER THEM BOLDLY WITH ALL YOUR HEART!

BUY THIS MOVIE NOW! You will not be disappointed, trust me! I give it my Highest rating!

Soar everyone!

Summary: Magical.
Review: I bought this video for my 5-year old daughter. She has been to stage performances of the Nutcracker and is currently taking ballet. This is one video that she plays over and over. The animation is wonderful and she especially loves the fairies.

Review: Oh my God. A Barbie video? Don't tell me who did this. HAS EVERYONE GONE INSANE?

Summary: Not for sensitive kids
Review: Grandma bought this for my two little girls (who are both in our local Nutcracker performance). What a perfect gift, I thought. The animation is charming and the girls were glued to the screen. However, both girls (aged 5 and 7) were scared by the mouse king. He's just too real and satanic looking. And big! My five-year-old clung to me and as I hugged her, I could feel her heart pounding. That's not what any of us expected from Barbie, friend of preschool little girls everywhere. Take a look at the back cover of the video before you buy it. The bottom little picture is of this monster. Ask yourself if that monster is welcome in YOUR home! He's not allowed in ours and we're booting him out. I'd much prefer the Warner Brothers Nutcracker with Macauley Calkin over this one, so that's what we'll watch instead. Despite all the other five-star glowing recommendations, I'd advise parents of little kids that get upset over scary stuff not to get this nutcracker (or at least view it first before purchasing and giving to little ones). Just be careful.

Summary: NUTCRACKER DANCES INTO THE 21ST CENTURY
Review: Surely this one will become a classic, never to replace the timeless Nutcracker but to bring it into a new generation. Who would have believed Barbie would be the one to do it! This movie cannot be age specific, because it will mesmorize all ages
(even most dads and grandpas)

My five year old granddaughter, Miss TORI-nado, who can't sit still for 30 seconds or stay awake when she does for 2 minutes, sat as still as a mouse, wide awake, enthralled (of course when it was over she showed me how to dance like a ballerina). Dare I say that at almost 50 years old neither could I take my eyes off this new twist on a timeless classic (and I wanted to dance with her when it was over!)

Although it has it's small gliches, such as mouthes not moving in line with words and other small noticable details. You can definitely overlook them once you are transformed into the Nutcraker's world.

This movie carries the story line from start to finish. Not one part leaves you hanging, hoping for a definite conclusion. It follows from start to finish fulfilling every dream (young or old.)

The dancing in this film is superb, flawless movements and timing with the music.

A must see for "kids" of all ages. (six stars if I could)
