Summary: Better than the first!
Review: When Nature Calls is so much better than Pet Detective! Of course you know any Jim Carrey movie is going to be hillarious, but this one just surpasses them all. There are so many crack-up "quotable" scenes that will bring you to laughter every time you remember them for years to come. The Ace Ventura series and Dumb and Dumber are the funniest movies ever made. You will learn to love not only Ace but his faithful sidekick Spike, as well as all of Ace's hillariously funny habbits.

Although there is one quite innapropriate scene where Ace is...pleasuring himself that is uncalled for; this being a "children's movie" and all.

Summary: Unfortunately a sequel.
Review: It had been a long time since I'd either watched the original Ace Ventura or this sequel when I pulled the old VHS of "When Nature Calls" out to watch it again. I was laughing almost the entire time. Obviously, the plot is only a vehicle to get Jim Carrey acting like an ass most of the time, but there are more actual JOKES in "When Nature Calls," and I couldn't believe how funny it was, given that I remember it "not being as good as the original" when I first watched it.

Then I saw the original Ace Ventura on HBO or Cinemax. It was funny still, but... It didn't seem as funny as "when Nature Calls." The only things that were funny were the original jokes that were overdone in "when nature calls" (it's maing deterring factor).

Specifically, there are scenes in this movie that just make me laugh every time. (the Rhino, the slinky, Ace getting shot with blowdarts and Chicago come to mind).

You can't go into a movie like this expecting to be "enlightened" with a magnificent plot. You also can't really expect it to be the same thing as the original. This was just a silly comedy that was still funny. Sure, the jokes are juvenile, but it's still a funny movie. You may not agree with me in saying it's better than the first Ace Ventura, but it's definitely worth a watch or two. (I still think Dumb and Dumber is Jim Carrey's funniest work though)

Summary: A highly successful sequel
Review: Jim Carrey was a huge success with his first starring film,ACE VENTURA:PET DETECTIVE,in 1994. The VHS video became priced to own in the fall of 1994 and a year later came a sequel, this film. This time Ace is searching for lost pets in the wilderness. Like the first film,it became priced to own(on VHS) in the spring of 1996. Why there were no subsequent sequels, nobody knows. Carrey probably decided not to continue playing the character that drove him to superstardom. Carrey's subsequent megahits include 1997's LIAR LIAR and 2003's BRUCE ALMIGHTY. Between the two Ace Ventura films,Carrey had another megahit,DUMB AND DUMBER. Carrey was naturally perfect for that film.

Summary: JUNGLE JIM
Review: Jim Carrey has got to be one of the most hyperkinetic, manic performers in movies. While this works most of the time for him, in this second Ace Ventura vehicle, it serves more as an irritant. There are some funny sequences in the movie, but they don't come as fast and furious as in the first. And Carrey's long pauses before finishing a punch line are so redundant in this one, it does become annoying. The supporting cast also isn't that impressive. As one reviewer said, this is merely a movie to showcase the bizarre antics of its star. Little Spike the monkey is fun as in the first flick, and its hard to believe we have an Oscar nominated actress (Sophie Okenedo - Hotel Rwanda) as the jungle princess. But this is Carrey's movie, and it's not one of his finer moments. But you will laugh occasionally.

Summary: Cute comedy, adorable animals
Review: This sequel to the 1994 smash hit Ace Ventura: Pet Detective actually has more animals in it than the first film, in which they were only peripheral characters. The beginning riffs on Sly Stallone's Cliffhanger: Ace (Jim Carrey) and his raccoon pal are hanging from a rock at a very high altitude when the daffy detective loses his grip on the little paw, and the ill-fated ringtail loses his life. A distraught Ace retreats to an ashram in Tibet, where devotes himself to a regimen of contrition. That is, until he's called out of retirement to investigate the disappearance of a rare white bat in the wilds of Africa. Ace's constant companion is a Capuchin monkey named Spike (played by Binx).

Summary: Ace is back on the case !
Review: Before reviewing this, I want to make it clear that WHEN NATURE CALLS is not an official sequel to PET DETECTIVE for those of you who made comparisons of the two movies. It is just another ace ventura movie with different characters. Both Ace Ventura flicks can be viewed in any order. Being a Jim Carrey fan, I overall liked the movie despite some unrealistic events that I won't spoil for anyone who still has not seen this. If you are a Jim Carrey fan or even haven't seen Pet Detective, you should still check this one out for a laughing good time!

Summary: Do not pass go. Do not collect $200.
Review: Jim Carey and Steve Oedekerk are fabulous together (they also worked on In Living Color together, as well as Bruce Almighty). I find Steve Oedekerk work to be hit or miss. I'm not a big fan of his "thumb" collection of work, or Kung Pow for that matter (I can't believe he is releasing a sequel). However, his work in The Nutty Professor I & II, Patch Adams, Bruce Almighty, and Ace Ventura when Nature calls is outstanding.

The story in this movie is, well, let's say looser then the first movie. Actually, lets say the story in this movie hardly exists. Steve Oedekerk used this movie more on parodies, and gives you a chance to just enjoy the character of Ace Ventura in all its glory. I honestly enjoyed this movie, and found it a lot funnier then the first. Nevertheless, this first Ace Ventura Pet Detective is a better "movie."

As for the Jim Carey front, yes I'm a big fan of his funny movies. I'm not a big fan of his serious movies. I prefer his roles in this type of movie, along w/Bruce Almighty, The Mask, Liar Liar, Me myself and Irene, Dumb and Dumber, and The Grinch. I'm not as big of a fan of The Truman Show, or Man on the Moon. I do really look forward to Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events , which comes out around Christmas of this year.

This movie is a classic, and belongs in your DVD collection. There is a funny part of this movie for everyone. If you try watching this movie for plot, story, and acting, you're in the wrong genre of comedy movies. If your looking for laugh out loud funny, this is it.

Summary: Ace Ventura - When Nature Calls (1995)
Review: This one of Jim Carrey's stupidest movies ever made. The story is about the pet detective Ace trying to solve who's trying to scare two African Tribes away from their village. The plot for this movie makes as much sense as getting kicked in the nads, and is extremely predictable to boot. Jim Carrey is more annoying in this film than funny, and the humor is a bit redundant throughout the film. Overall, unless you have low taste in movies then see this, but if you're like me then don't bother wasting your time.

Summary: Funnier than the first one!
Review: I can't believe this movie has a 3.8 star rating!!! This movie is sooooooooooooooo funny!!!! I LOVED the part when Ace and the other dudes were watching a slide show and Ace keeps messing it up! I won't tell you how he messses it up, I would'nt wanna spoil it for you!

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Dismal follow-up to a great Carrey film
Review: I'll give this sequel 2 stars, representing the two main elements it's missing: goofy humor and on-screen chemistry between Jim Carrey and his co-stars. Viewers of the first film easily remember Courtney Cox, Sean Young and Tone Lôc as witnesses/victims of Carrey's outrageous humor. The sequel, however, is a one-man vehicle that devotes almost every second to Carrey. If Carrey was acting his heart out, it MAY have turned out better. Unfortunately, it seems as if Carrey is delivering lifelessly, in the hopes of moving on fast.

No co-stars, bad laughs and no storyline... save yourself the trouble, skip this flick and stick with the original Ace Ventura, as Jim Carrey should have.
