Summary: "I'LL SWALLOW YOUR SOUL!!"..."Come get some."
Review: This has to be my most favorite of the Evil Dead series. Not because it's scary like the first movie, because it's incredibly funny. I like "The Evil Dead", and I rate it as my most favorite scary films of all time, but "Army of Darkness" is the one I like the most. We see our reluctant hero Ash (Bruce Campbell) being sucked into a vortex in the "Evil Dead: Dead By Dawn" and he lands in another time during the Middle ages. Here the deadites are known through out the land where superstition runs rampant in the hearts of men and women. Ash, is sent back in time as foretold in prophecy and recorded within the pages of The Necronimican, roughly translated, The Book of The Dead. He is equipped with a chainsaw in place of his severed hand and is armed with his BOOM stick. From here, the main story line of "The Army of Darkness" begins. Upon his landing in the Middle Ages, the primitives, King Arthur's people, mistakens Ash as one of King Henry's men. So they throw Ash in the pit of the dead where he battles two deadites. Here we see for the first time the warrior Ash, as he emrges victorious against the evil deadites. This is really different from the first movie where we see a cowardly Ash who is scared senseless. Anyway, he frees King Henry and a few of his men who where captured and is hailed as the promised one as foretold in prophecy. Ash, being the reluctant hero, just wants to go home, so he strikes a deal with the wisemen and sets off on a journey to a cemetary to find the Necronomican, the book that contains the passages to get him back to his own time. During the first part of his journey, we see the deadites lurking about in the woods reminiscent of the first two films. He also battles little evil Ashes and a full grown evil Ash when he grows out of good Ash's body. This is really funny stuff. Anyway, he finally arrives at the cemetary where he has to choose between 3 Necronomicans. Let's say he didn't choose wisely. When he finally grabs the right book, he awakens the army of darkness because he didn't say the verse, the passage from The Necronomican which keeps the dead... dead, exactly right. He then has to battle the army of darkness, protect the book from the evil Ash which led the army of darkness, and save the girl from the baddies. There are two endings to this film. I personally like the S-mart ending better than the awakening in the post Nuclear holocaust future. I have copies of both endings, but the S-mart ending is my favorite one. It also sets up the story for the "Evil Dead: Hail To The King" video game. I recommend this film for anyone who wants a good laugh with elements of horror. "Hail to the king baby."

Summary: The third chapter in the epic Evil Dead trilogy!!!!!!
Review: This is the follow-up to Evil Dead and Evil Dead II-Dead By Dawn, and I DEFINITLEY think this is the best one. It is more funny and action-packed than the other two, and the one-liners in this movie are literally non-stop! This movie starts after Evil Dead II finishes, in which Ash, our unlikely hero, is thrown into a time portal after reading a passage in the Necronomicon (The Book Of The Dead) which vaccums the monster at Ash's door. Unfortunately, Ash is sucked in as well, and is transported to 14th century France, where the Medievil times were still present. Ash accidentally brought the evil back with him, and he has to defend himself and a Medievil village against the ultimate "Deadite": A deadite of Ash himself. This movie is directed by Sam Raimi, director of such films like Darkman, and starring Bruce Campbell, the star of all the other Evil Dead films. If you like Sam Raimi and watch his movies a lot, you find out that Bruce Campbell has a cameo in every Sam Raimi film (Watch the end of Darkman and you'll see what i'm talking about). This new limited edition widescreen director's cut is amazing, and has over 15 minutes of additional footage. There is also a new ending which is less funny but makes a lot more sense in the story and could possibly set the scene for an Evil Dead 4 (This is very unlikely, because Bruce Campbell himself said he would NOT be in an Evil Dead 4 unless Sam Raimi directs, and he has no plans to do so). The picture quality is average, since two scenes become dark and slightly blurry, especially the windmill scene and the final battle scene, but the rest of the movie is superb as far as sound and picture quality goes. The windmill scene with all the little Ash's has 6 minutes extra, and is much more hilarious compared to the theatrical version. This version of the movie is a limited edition with only 50,000 in existence, so get it while it lasts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Summary: Fistful of Boomstick
Review: "Army of Darkness" is the third film in Sam Raimi's legendary "Evil Dead" trilogy. Surprisingly, while it was the least popular of the series in theaters, it's arguably now the biggest cult hit in the series!
Picking up where ED2 left off, Ash (Bruce Campbell) finds himself in 1400 A.D., taken prisoner by Arthur's knights. Soon, he finds that the only way he can return to his own time is to retrieve the Necronomicon (a.k.a. Book of the Dead). Of course, there are some complications: he'll also have to save his girlfriend, blow up his evil clone, and destroy an army of the dead. Armed with those ever-so-trusty weapons, the double-barreled shotgun and chainsaw, Ash sets out on his quest to return home.
"Army of Darkness" is one of the few films that successfully blends comedy with horror. AOD is, in fact, much more comedy than horror. Ash is outrageous, albeit a little more pissy than in the previous films.
One of the interesting things to do with this film is to look back at the other two films and see how far along the ED crew came. Bruce Campbell's acting improved by ED2, Sam Raimi became a more experienced director, the scripts changed from gore-filled horror to laugh-out-loud comedy, Joseph LoDuca went from creepy 70's horror score to booming medieval soundtrack...
There are two versions of the film: the original theatrical version (nicely remastered on this DVD) as well as the Director's Cut (horridly "mastered" on this DVD). I would highly recommend the D.C. to the T.C., but with the quality of the D.C. on this DVD, I can understand it if you stick with the T.C. (Woah, that was a mouthful!)
All in all, "Army of Darkness" is even more rockin' now then it was ten years ago. Filled with bone-rattling action and groovy comedy, AOD is a film only Sam Raimi could make.
"Shop smart, shop S-Mart!"

Summary: Gimme some sugar, baby
Review: Army of Darkness is pretty much just what the title suggests, an over the top send up of those zombie pictures. Significantly different from its predecessors Evil Dead 1 and 2, Army of Darkness lacks the comic gore and genuinely frightening moments of the first two, but makes up for it in the sheer hilarity of Ash's classic one liners and the skeleton animation. the story picks up exactly where Evild Dead II ended, with our hero Ash stranded in medieval England. Once again, he must battle the forces of the dead and recover the necronomicon (the book of the dead), with the help of his chainsaw hand and 'boomstick'.
The transformation of the character Ash from the timid teen in Evil Dead I to the chainsaw wielding badass in Army of Darkness is great to see. Bruce Campbell is probably the only actor who could have pulled off the role of Ash with aplomb and style. His macho grace and rugged "good looks" truly carry the film. Watch for Embeth Davidtz (she of "Mansfield Park" and "Bridget jones' Diary") as Ash's medieval amour who doesn't quite grasp the concept of pillow talk. You need to see Evil Dead II to fully appreciate Army of Darkness, but can skip Evil Dead I. Rent this film, watch it with friends, and you'll be quoting the one liners forever.

Summary: No Masterpiece, But It May Be The Most Fun Movie Ever Made.
Review: I admit, I had doubts when I saw Raimi's Army of Darkness enter the DVD market in flying colors. I remember seeing it years ago: Bruce Campbell with one-liners coolly rolling off of his tongue, really evil scary guys getting mutilated in every which way, crazy camera-work... I had a lot of fun. However, it had been a long time since I had seen it, and I doubted my opinion from days past. I waited on it, and I checked back at Amazon, seeing that the Limited Edition had ended production. Realizing that I could not live without it securely in my collection, I scurried off to the video store that weekend and bought one of the two copies left on the shelves. I watched it that evening, and, albeit some newly-realized problems, I really enjoyed it a lot. The on-set jokes that previously were the film's downfall are nicely explained and laughed at in the audio commentary as well as the documentary. I should have probably put 4 Stars, but, what the heck, its fun. Buy the Limited Edition if you can, because it is a great DVD.

Summary: Good Movie
Review: This was a very good movie funny as hell too. Love the part when the skeletons are slapping and punching Ash in the face. The thing i hated though how the skeletons looked in the movie it was fake looking. This movie is funnier than it is scary!!!

Summary: Great cheesy cult horror film - choose the edition wisely
Review: I've seen the U.S. theatrical cut of this film a number of times, so I bought the Director's cut (ASIN B00005QW4K) when it first came out. I finally got around to watching it recently, and I've got to say, I'm pretty disappointed with this particular edition. If you want to see the director's cut, I'd recommend you go with the "Boomstick Edition", which also includes the U.S. theatrical release.

There were a number of flaws in this particular DVD. The first thing I noticed was really bad pixellation in many scenes. They did a great job in many cases of cleaning up any scratches or flaws in the source film, but then they did a really bad job of DVD compression. I'm sure the other editions aren't any worse on that score, and hope that they're better.

Also, this cut is actually missing some of my favorite scened and lines. The worst offense is that the line "Good, bad - I'm the guy with the gun" (which for me has always epitomized Ash) was replaced by "I'm not that good". In the commentary, Campbell and Raimi actually note that they prefer the "Good, bad" line... So why not include it in the "director's cut"?

They also deleted an early fight scene, just after Campbell's arrival, and went back to what was apparently the original ending. I really liked the ending in S-Mart, though. I also found the editing on the windmill scene in this edition less cohesive than the theatrical release.

The commentary by Campbell and Raimi was very good, since those two have a long history together, and really seem to have loved making this movie. Still, though, it was clear that they could see some of the same issues I mentioned above, leaving me baffled as to why they didn't work together to make this edition a true reflection of what they think the "best" version of "Army of Darkness" would be.

Summary: Good bad im the Ash with the gun.
Review: Army of Darkness is such a fun movie to watch, What more could you want from a movie. I first became a fan of this movie because of Evil Dead 1&2, they where pretty good movies but when Army of Darkness came out it was five times better than the first two movies put together. The real reasson this movie did so well is because Bruce Campbell a.k.a Ash played his part damn well, and because of that we the fans of his movies where happy to see him come back to the big screen. If you don't like slap-stick comedy or horror movies you will not like this film, but if you do your in luck because Army of Darkness is the cult classic movie you've been waiting for.
