Summary: Worked 1 time than kaput
Review: I purchased this Dvd player and 2 other (so called no name) brands as gifts for family members. It`s funny (not really) that the so called name brand was the one that [broke] on me. I watched Star Wars Attack of the Clone and thought what a wonderful DVD player. Problem is, after trying to play another Dvd, I kept getting "can`t read DVD". Did`nt matter what I did or what DVD I put in. I guess this is what they would call a disposable DVD player. Your just allowed to watch it 1 time.

... Needless to say I will not be buying Toshiba anymore.

Summary: Very Disappointed
Review: I purchased this DVD player based on the strength of the Toshiba name over several cheaper "generic" models that offered similar features. Although installation was simple and relatively painless, I discovered a very disappointing flaw in the machine in its first use. During fast-paced action sequences, the picture will flicker and disappear for several frames. Although this flaw is minor in some DVDs, it becomes especially troublesome in action movies and fast-paced scenes. I have sent the unit in for warranty repair, and I am awaiting its return. I highly recommend that anyone interested in a mid-priced DVD player stay away from this machine and Toshiba products in general.

Summary: I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU DON'T PURCHASE THIS DVD PLAYER
Review: I purchased this DVD player in Jan 2003. In March 2003 it began to malfunction. Green horizontal lines appear across the screen when playing a movie. These green lines make watching the movie unbearable. I have read other reviews about this product and have found other people have been having serious problems with this DVD player. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU DON'T PURCHASE THIS DVD PLAYER. It seems like hit or miss. Either you get a good one or you don't.

Summary: Excellent value
Review: I really don't know what is going on with some of these negative reviews. I bought this DVD player almost two years ago and it has served me very well with no real problems. I needed a DVD player that could play multiple formats, particularly VCDs, and wasn't too expensive. I decided on this model and I am more than happy with my purchase. The Enhanced Picture and Audio modes are useful and it doesn't take up a lot of space on the TV stand. My gripes are few and minor. The remote could have been better designed with more distinctions between buttons. This would help enormously in low light. The fast forward speed on VCDs could be faster, but that's not too big of a problem. Finally, I've noticed significant picture breakup on burned DVDs, but this only happens towards the end of the movie for some reason. This may be the fault of the disc, but then I tried it on my PS2 and didn't experience the picture problems. Despite these minor glitches, Toshiba really produced a winner with this player. Anyone looking for a value-priced and feature-rich DVD player should consider this model.

Summary: An excellent first DVD player
Review: I recently replaced my deceased TV and antique VCR on the same day, and also acquired my first-ever DVD player (I'm not much of an "early adopter"). Like another reviewer, I was looking at the SD-2800, but this model in the same series was considerably less expensive and seemed to have all the features I'm likely to need. I don't have a home theater system, so I don't need advanced artificial intelligence in a player, or any of that. This player set up and attached to the TV with a minimum of fuss and played three DVDs one after the other perfectly and with terrific fidelity. In the three months since then, I've played perhaps 25 discs, both my own and multiple-rentals from Blockbuster, and the machine ticks right along without a whimper. So far, I really like what I see!

Summary: Great product (so far) for a great price
Review: I was originally looking at the SD2800, but then noticed that the 1800 has the same features for less money. The picture quality is top notch on my "regular" TV. I don't plan to by HD anytime soon so I did not go for the progressive scan. The MP3 playback is good as long as your recordings are of high quality but there are a few restrictions -- names can only be 8 charaters (DOS format) with the .mp3 extension and it can only handle 254 songs (I think that's the number) per disc even though you can usually put more songs than that on a CD. The remote is very easy to use the only drawback being that it has no controls for your TV (volume) like others I've seen. Overall a great budget player!

Summary: Good buy
Review: In the world of affordable DVD players, I'd have to say they're all about the same. Let's be realistic, you get what you pay for. And for $ this DVD player isn't the best, but it's definately worked well for me. The great aspect of this machine is that it is VCD, MP3, DVD-R, and DVD-RW compatible. It does not play SVCD, but it does go one step higher and play XVCD. How that has happened is beyond me. For the price, it offers you the ability to play your DVD's, with few restrictions play some MP3's, and if you're into it, make your own VCD's and if you've got the technology burn some DVD's on your DVD-R's AND RW's. For the price, this machine does it all. I haven't tested out many lower priced DVD players other than this one and what I've heard about APEX. So for me personally, I'd recommend this player for anyone looking to get into DVD's, but not wanting or caring about all the high frills and thrills that DVD technology can offer. If you're the kind of guy, or girl for that matter, that is always looking for the biggest and best, then pass on this one. But for most of us, this DVD is cheap and does it all.

Summary: Works Perfect!!!
Review: It has all the features I need : simulated surround sound for a 2 speaker sound system that I have, enhanced dialogue, 5 different enhanced picture mode, and support for digital audio DTS/Dolby through its coaxial cable.

Summary: Rather dissapointing
Review: Ours came with the TV but it looks like we're going to have to buy a better player pretty soon. My gripes are that the playing of CDs is poor as the player quite often misses the first fraction of some of the tracks. I've yet to get it to play SVCD disks that play fine on other dvd players, so that's the home movies unplayable. The manual is poor, so I don't know whether it's supposed to support the format or not, though it does claim CD digital video. I've yet to find a way to unlock the region too.
