Summary: Not worth buying
Review: I rented this DVD via Netflix. I would not buy it and while watching it I quit half way though. The script is so modern it's funny. I burst out laughing in several places. Mel Gibson's movie is now the yardstick. This movie is at the bottom of all the ones I have seen.

Summary: The most innacurate depiction of Jesus...
Review: Biblically innaccurate...They made it seem as though Jesus was unsure of his purpose which is clearly not what the scriptures say...

Summary: I loved it! Good intro for kids who don't know Jesus
Review: It's interesting that I am the 116th person to write about this movie. I think everyone has their own view of Jesus and what happened to him and every movie will fall short for some people in some way. Some people have some very definite ideas about "facts" which are not clear in the bible. For example, the movie shows Jesus as an only child. Why would he be? Unless you believe that his mother had to remain a virgin til death because married sex is sinful (?). From my own reading, I never thought that Mary Magdelen and Mary the sister of Lazarus were different people. The identity of Mary Magdelen has been the subject of some discussion since "The DaVinci Code".
Film makers have to fill in the gaps from their own imagination and each of us has to chose the interpretation we like.
I liked watching Jesus as a joyful and very human character opposed to war and prejudice.
I felt that this was an ideal film for my children(aged 8)who are asking about Jesus. Being not religious myself, I do not revere "scriptures" above historical research. I wanted a movie that told a reasonable version of the story, with Jesus as a character the kids could admire and identify with. This one also gave a good explanation of why Jesus was killed. The crucifixion was painful to watch(...). I had bought a video called "Jesus" with a narator reading the gospel of Luke - boring!! This one is great.

Summary: Don't Bother
Review: This is an insult to my intelligence! NOt only is the acting poor but the story line is incorrect. The production low budget and appears so, and the effects look like they were done by a twelve year old. I am not Chritian bashing only pointing out that this is the worst rendition of the story of Christ I have ever seen. (...)This is obviously a work done with no forthought. If you like Pap and poor acting this is your Dog!

Summary: beautiful movie
Review: Wonderful movie about our Lord. Couple of instances veers from scripture but most of it true to scripture.

I thought Jeremy Sisto made a caring and loving Jesus and seemed to be enjoying himself, I'm sure our Lord was full of joy and was a pleasure to be around. Not so sure if he fancied Mary, Lazurus sister though!

Very moving and I particularly like the scenes with the devil, very cleverly done.

Summary: Very REAL compared to today's life.
Review: Nobody can act out the life of Christ perfectly. All the movies will have at least several mistakes. I know people criticize this one because Jesus supposedly confesses his "sins" which in real life he didn't have any. But we can always disregard the mistakes and focus on the main important part. This director obviously knows the main point of Jesus's coming to earth. He also understands history very accutely and explains how Israel was under the rule of Rome and the people were expecting the Messiah to come and free them from the Roman Empire. But the Messiah's real rebellion was against sin and satan in order to obtain eternal life. This movie is an excellent material to explain this.

Summary: Good entertainment, bad theology
Review: I would have enjoyed this movie had it not been for the blatant disreguard of Scripture. The actors were good. However, the movie tries to focus so much on Jesus's humanness that it forgot that Jesus Christ is Wonderful, Counselor, Prince of Peace, Everlasting Father, Almighty God. He is God With Us. This movie leaves the viewer with an incorrect view of Jesus. The Bible says that God created us in His own image. But today, people are creating God in their own image. Christians should not rejoice over this movie nor use it as an evangelism tool. Take heed to 2 Timothy 4
1 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.
3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

Summary: My Favorite Religious Movie ever- A Must See!!!
Review: I teach in a Catholic School and have used this video around Easter time every year since I've seen it. Ever since sixth grade way back 30 years ago, Jesus Christ Superstar was the one religious movie that had made an impact on me. That lasted until the year 2000 when I watched this movie on tv for the first time. I had never seen a movie in which Jesus was portrayed as having feelings, joking around with his buddies (apostles in this case)-actually being the "true man" part of "true God and true Man!" It affected me in a way I can't even begin to describe. Last year while watching it with my middle schoolers, I couldn't keep the tears in when he was carrying the cross towards the crucifixion and Mary was crying. The kids asked why I was crying and I explained. When he returned to make himself known after rising from the dead, I couldn't keep the tears in causing the kids to ask, "Now, why are you crying???"
"These are happy tears," I shared! Even listening to the music hits that emotional spot inside. Jeremy Sisto does such a wonderful job, as do Gary Oldman, Jacqueline Bisset and the rest of the cast. Amazing. Just simply amazing.
